People dont ever give Scott Pioli enough credit for the Pats Chapionships.
Remeber this is the first time Belichek is making allof the decisions for himself..well see if hes as smart of a personnel man as he thinks he is. I personally an not impressed by his draft or his freeagent moves..

If the Pat’s could have gotten value for O’Connell they would have. Nobody was going to trade for a QB having as bad of a pre-season as O’Connell was when that team would have a chance of picking him off waivers. Unless it was a team like the Jet’s, that only want O’Connell for his knowledge of the Pat’s system (or lack there of)/

BB wouldn’t drop him if he could get what he wanted (read that as “value”). Like typical BB moves this is just phase 1 of a multi-phase plan that will play out over several weeks and it shouldn’t receive it’s final grade until that happens. Last year everyone said Cassel sucked but BB saw something there that Joe the Fan could not see. Plus, who knows how O’Connell will turn out? He may just be another QB who never panned out (or maybe he will pan out, nobody knows yet).
The beauty of BB is that he never falls in love with a high draft pick. If he has a development plan for a player and that player does not fulfill it in the allotted time he’ll move him out…whether he is a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round draft choice it does not matter.

Do you mean to tell me that the Patriots had a chance at acquiring a draft pick or two and passed it up for no apparent reason? WTF!

I buy that. Normally the Patriots are known for making excellent personnel decisions, but just out-right dropping O’Connell made very little sense. He was definitely getting scooped up by KC if 1 and 2 on the waiver wire didn’t move on him. Now the Pats have Brady and Hoyer at QB, but maybe, just maybe there is a master plan after all… Jeff Garcia backing up Brady with Hoyer at # 3?

They could’ve traded him for a conditional pick linked to playing time (if they wanted it to be fair) or some other incentive like special teams participation (if they really wanted nothing but to control where he goes).

Classic Tannenbaum maneuver. Bring in discarded Patriots for de-briefing to figure out whatt makes the Patriots tick. A bit like seat-sniffing really.
Maybe he’ll sign Walter too. I’ve heard he has the Pats’ offense down cold! He and O’Connell can join Clemens in tutoring Sanchez. Worlds of valuable experience in that threesome.
I hope Mr. T has given the Lions his first round choice in 2011. No, make that 2010. He ain’t that bright and he won’t be around then anyway.

If the Jets signed O’Connell to learn about the Pats offense, which of course they did, they are out of luck. Based on the times he was on the field, he does not have much of a grasp on the system. Don’t worry Rex, you still get to play the Bills twice. Jets are fixated on the Pats; they chose Gholston because they thought they were getting Belichick’s choice. They will never win until the stop being obsessed with their big brother.

Ryan thinks he’s going to get some insights into the Pats before they meet, and then dumps the turkey immediately afterwards. Pats and Just End The Season (Jets) do this tactic on each other each year at the beginning of the season. Never works for either team.

Four teams put in waiver claims:
The Jets, the Browns, Detroit and the Broncos (I think).
The Jets and Browns don’t trade with the Patriots. Detroit wasn’t about to trade with the Patriots since they didn’t have to.
That leaves only the Broncos.
Unless the Jets gave up more than a 7th round pick, there is no basis for this Florio’s claim.
A far more likely explanation for this article is that Florio, who loves talking up conspiracy theories, got his facts wrong [KC didn't put in a waiver's claim] and got caught talking out of his ass.

Um, just so you know, the Chiefs didn’t even put in a waiver claim for O’connell.
