Cable says Seymour wants to be in Oakland

Addressing the fact that Sunday's trade for defensive lineman Richard Seymour has not yet resulted in Seymour actually arriving in Oakland, Raiders coach Tom Cable told reporters on Monday that Seymour wants to join the team.

Seriously.

Here's the relevant portion of the back-and-forth, from Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times.

"We have attempted to make a deal," Cable said.  "There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out.  Hoping that will be resolved as quickly as possible.  We know that the player wants to be here, but we have no control really over those issues.  That's really all I'm going to talk about it for now."

Asked how he knows that Seymour wants to be in Oakland, Cable said, "I have talked to him."

Said another reporter, presumably emphasizing the last work of his question:  "So he said he wants to be here?"

"Yes," Cable said.

That said, we don't believe many things that NFL head coaches say.  And we definitely don't believe Cable on this one.

Really, what would Seymour and the Patriots have to work out, other than Seymour working his foot out of the ass of whoever told him that he has been traded to Oakland?

How much they are going to pay him when he comes back after next year?

Cable: You want to come to Oakland, right?
    Seymour: No!
    *Punch in the face*
Cable: I'm gonna ask you one more time....you want to come to Oakland....RIGHT?

Seymour, "I'm not really sure I want to play in Oakland..."

Cable, "If you dont show up, I'm going to punch you in the face..."

Seymour, :OK Tom, dont get violent, I'm looking forward to playing in Oakland...."

This line in this piece really interested me:

"That said, we don't believe many things that NFL head coaches say. And we definitely don't believe Cable on this one."

So with this line, one can gather you don't believe the "execs" and "coaches" i.e. unnamed sources, who were sports journalists have pinpointed to as "Seymour doesn't want to be in Oakland"

Do they honestly think he's worth what will be a top 5 overall pick!? Lunacy.

Reporter: And if he doesn't shoe up by the end of the week?

    Cable: I'll kick his ass!

  13. kravon says: September 7, 2009 6:18 PM

Seymour has been a punk and bully his entire career. He will fit right in with Oakland.

  14. Festivus says: September 7, 2009 6:18 PM

Right you dont believe him because it makes your ridiculous story about him not wanting to go to Oakland moot.

Seriously, theres not a single person on record saying Seymour was upset, only some garbage from Peter "Belichiks puppet' King from a supposed unamed friend.

Really just a pathetic attempt to make a story out of nothing from all media outlets. Too bad PFT fell right in line.

  15. Igottz5onit says: September 7, 2009 6:19 PM

As a neutral observer I would have to say either Richard Seymore lied to Tom Cable or Tom Cable lied to the media because no one really wants to be in Oakland.

this guy has been my favorite player for years, but even i will admit that he isnt close to the guy he once was. if he was willing to take less to win, like brady and moss, then he would still be here. he made his bed. unfortunately, his bed is in Oakland now.

Because if there is one thing we are assured of with the Raiders.....it is that they don't have ANY competetive advantage over ANYBODY.

LMFAO, if I was a Jokeland fan, I would want my team to do anything, ANYTHING for a win. Thanks to Detroit, Jokeland is only the 2nd worst franchise in all of pro sports

That comment illustrates an interesting paradox; "Oakland", and "to win" are mutually exclusive terms. Maybe you should rephrase it to "Seymour is glad to be in Oakland with a team that absolutely needs to video tape other teams practices to have any chance at winning."

Seymour wants to be with our team about as much as he would be looking foward to getting an enema from a fat gay male nurse. There are 3 reasons he will say he is. Money, money and more money.

Hope they give Seymour a tour of the building and let him see the famous overhead projector Clueless Al is so proud of.

  29. 0tt0 says: September 7, 2009 7:38 PM

obviousy the phrase.....we have attempted to make a deal.....means there is no deal in place at this time.....seymour either wants a new contract or wants a guaranty he wont be franchised....and that wasnt in the terms of the original deal.....so they are back to the drawing board

That's because the last time Oakland won a Super Bowl, videotape hadn't been invented yet.

Dontcha think that Richard has had a long conversation with Randy Moss, among others, who've given him an earful on the dysfunctional cesspool that's Al's Oakland? It's a place players in their twilight go for that last big paycheck before cashing in their chips. Is the money worth it in this case? Time will tell.

  35. firemn2365 says: September 7, 2009 10:01 PM

alright..lets think here..the raiders gave up a 1st rd pick(which will be a 1st or 2nd overall pick) for a 29 yr old...guys good don't get me wrong but....a 1st rd pick??? don't you think you have bigger problems raider nation? dumb moves like this that is keeping your team on the bottom....i respect al davis for what he's done over the yrs but...the game has past you by man...the raiders are set up to battle the lions for 0- 16 seasons for awhile...just sayin

    @ Florio

Your little snipes towards the Raiders and other teams have become very unprofessional. Your supposed to be unbiased when reporting sports related issues. Your starting to sound like the low IQ morons around here who comment and act as if they know where a player would like to play and not play.

    @ Everyone else

It's become pathetic. Stop beating a dead horse into the ground people. We get it already. You think you know more about football than Al Davis, and know how to run a team with the best of them. It's a natural wonder why your not even the head fry guy at McDonald's yet. You have football smarts that are so off the charts, it blows your mind that an NFL franchise hasn't offered you a job yet, let alone been offered a coaching position on the local pee-wee team. You know so much about running a professional sports team, that your being nice by working as a ditch digger in order to not make the rest of the NFL look bad. It's amazing how people like you, with so much football knowledge, aren't working, at the very least, at a high school level. What gives?

The Raiders could be terrible for the next few years and still not match the pathetic level that teams like the Bengals, Browns, Lions, Falcons, Saints, Cardinals, and the likes of have been known for. Sure, the Raiders set a record someone pulled out of their ass after last season, but there are teams who have been far worse for far longer periods of time. Perennial losers are what we call teams that haven't won a Super Bowl. Some of you numb-nuts are fans of those teams, and you should probably just STFU.

  37. JoeSixPack says: September 7, 2009 10:59 PM

Of course Cable's gonna say that.

What's the alternative? Admitting that no one wants to play for a whack job coach in an organization run by a whack job owner?

  38. raiderdano says: September 7, 2009 11:19 PM

  39. raideralex99 says: September 8, 2009 12:13 AM

    You are 100% correct raiders757.
I don't see anyone bashing the Bengals, Browns, Lions, Falcons, Saints, Cardinals ... you know why because everyone feels sorry for the losers and they leave them alone.
The Raiders on the other hand have been winners for so long (at one point the winningest franchise in all of pro sport) ... people don't forget that and now they are enjoying every minute of the Raider's losing streak.

No one wants to be in Oakland, unless the other choice is Detroit.
