It seriously is. The Richard Seymour trade was finalized and announced on Sunday. Seymour is not in Alameda on Monday, less than 24 hours later and immediately the anti-Raider sports press (Peter King, PFT) start spouting that Seymour is pissed about the trade and is refusing to go to Oakland. If Seymour had been traded to any other team but the Raiders, the fact that he hadn’t arrived within 24 hours of the trade being announced wouldn’t be a story. At all. But it s the Raiders so of course NOBODY wants to go there so Seymour will refuse to accept the trade accoriding to SI.com. Never confirmed with the Raiders or the Patriots. Spokesman for NE says they are not aware of any problems with Seymour and the trade. Raiders HC Cable says he spoke to Seymour and he wants to be a Raider. For gods sake its barely been 24 hours. I’m not surprised the isn’t in Oakland yet. He will be soon.

You do realize that their schedule last year was mostly made up of:
the AFC West
the NFC West
the rest of the AFC East twice.
So that last year they played the #29, #28, #27, #25 (twice), #24, #23, #16 (twice) offenses while Denver and Arizona both laid an uncharacteristic egg on offense in Foxboro, and giving up 38, 30, 28, 18, and 33 to the rest of the teams they played?
We’re not exactly talking about one of the all-time defenses last year for the Pats, and losing Seymour certainly won’t help for this year when they play some better teams in their non-divisional games.

I get that Seymour is upset. Who wouldn’t be? But it’s a business and Belichick is simply making a business decision. He realized that his division is going to be weak this year, so it’s an ideal time to bring in the new guard and use those first few games as a way of bringing them up to speed much like Matt Cassel was handled last year. Better to do it with a brand new core unit at the same time so as to establish that cohesiveness. Better to remove the crutch that Seymour would represent. Better to do it when one team in your div is struggling (the Bills) and another has a new coach and a rookie QB (the Jets). Given the turnover that’s happened lately with the Pats it was inevitable that at some time soon something like this was going to happen. It just turned out that this was the time. It’s nothing personal I’m sure.
For the other teams, now is the time to hurt the Pats. They’re weak now and you could be seeing a sea change if their competitors recognize it and dismantle the team of the decade.

We get a good player to upgrade our defense. Plus, he’s a high character guy that’s also a proven winner. Hopefully, he can show some of the under performers what it takes to win.
But, then I realized that he only has one year left on his contract, and that we gave up a 1st round pick to get him. That seems like an awfully high price to pay for a guy with a lot of wear on his tires.
As long as we can resign him and have him for MORE than one year, it’ll be a great move because Al Davis always blows the 1st round pick anyway. And the money those 1st rounders get really hurts the salary cap if they turn out to be busts.
