As another long-time Cowboys fan, I agree with bustahead–there are serious, long-term issues with this team that they’ve shown almost no capacity to address. Every year they seem to expect that talent automatically equals success. They’ve been 13-3, they’ve been 9-7, but they keep getting tripped up by the exact same stuff every season, without showing any acknowledgement of it.
You may not agree with what Smith says or how he says it, but more people need to be saying it. The refrain of ‘things will change this year’ has been ringing hollow for a long time now.
Personally, I just don’t see how a team whose QB and presumptive leader excuses himself so readily after massive debacles with that ‘it could be worse, I have my health’ tripe can ever break through. Once again, they have enough talent, but where is the heart and soul of this team? Where is the fire, the grit, the discipline? I just don’t see it.

Well, I have to say…”The truth hurts”!! I’ve been a die hard Boys fan since the beginning of the franchise in the 60′s but I’m worried about our O-line, Romo’s inability to get the ball deep, our lack of a deep threat and our Coach “Cupcake”. I hope and pray all things blue and sliver that Emmit is wrong but I’m afraid until Coach Cupcake is gone, gone, gone nothing in Big D will change.

Cowboys fans can appreciate Emmitt Smith’s time on the football field, but they don’t have to like him as a person, role model, analyst, radio host, or anything else that he decides to do. He has an opinion just like many other people do, and that’s all that it is.
There really isn’t a whole lot wrong with what he said. Doesn’t mean Dallas fans have to like it. The way he said it wasn’t classy, and you don’t have to expect that from him just because he used to play for Dallas. The same way Dallas fans don’t have to like him just because he played for them.
Players and former players make predictions every year. Guess what…. the majority of them are wrong.

Emmit Smith is a terrible analyst. So is Michael Irvin. Trow Aikman is the only one who knows what he is talking about. I am glad Emmit isn’t on TV or has his own show, he wastes his breath. Now as a die hard Redskins fan, id love for his prediction to come true. Hell, its far more likely than Michael Irvins hint at a Cowboys super bowl run. But there going to be at least 8-8. The worst team in the NFC East is always 8-8 it seems. Thats how good this division is.

It’s surprising to see Vox shut down so far in his relentless effort to stick up for his team. Usually, he’ll just regurgitate what everyone else said and spin it to some sort of lame Cowboy reference that only benefits his argument. I actually appreciate him stepping aside for once and realizing that his team is going to finish 3rd in the East and be nowhere close to making the playoffs. Yet another year wasted by the incomparable JJ.

It’s absolutely amazing how many Cowboy fans have wasted words on Emmit’s grammer. When he was scoring touchdowns & breaking the all time rushing mark I didn’t hear any cowboy ebonics experts say, “…yeah he broke the record but he’s illiterate.” I think what’s illiterate here is where the typical cowboy fanatic, dogmatic fan is analyzing his speech & not listening to what he’s talking bout. Who cares if he is not eloquent. What about the point? Romo is indifferent. That’s just who he is & we all know “indifference” at the QB position has NEVER, read it again, NEVER won a Superbowl. Stop being the “illiterate” one cowbow fans because denial is a MF, especially when you’re worried about if the “I” came before the f*cking “E”!! Win a playoff game. Oh Yeah. Emmit doesn’t know anything about winning. He was only successful in every phase of his football career. He doesn’t know anything about leadership. He only saw Troy lead a team to 3 super bowls. I think he was on the field with him also. Yeah. He doesn’t know any of this because he doesn’t speak well. But, there are a bunch of morons on here that know all about winning, because they’re brilliant speakers. I wonder why the talk shows aren’t asking you for your opinions?

Yeah, but he’s not a player anymore- we’re not watching him athletically in competition. He attempted a different career– on-air broadcasting, shouldn’t he speak better than that? Be at least a smidgen articulate? After all, in essense his job is to speak.
That said, I don’t have anything against Emmitt- but seriously he did himself no favors in that interview.

Nothing would make me happier than Dallas going 0-16 in Jerry’s first year in his new fun house. But Witten, Jones, Barber, Bennett – you have all the tools there to consistently gain 4 or 5 yds a pop, with a 10-15 yd gain thrown in from time to time. Williams just has to catch the occasional long pass to keep defenses honest. As much as it sickens me, I think Dallas can be a very dangerous team if they focus on the short stuff and nickel and dime opponents to death.

This is coming from the guy who said he was a diamond surrounded by trash in his last years as a Cowboy.
In his last year as a Cowboy he averaged 3.8 yds/carry. In his only 2 years as a Cardinal he averaged 2.8 and 3.5.
Hmm. Keep talking trash Emmitt. If you were a diamond surrounded by trash in Dallas then what were you in Arizona?
After reading what Emmitt said the Cowboys may actually get it together this year.

OK, so Emmit is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he mangles sentences and words but giving his opinion on an overrated team is not a crime. Trading a 1, 3, and a 5 for a talentless WR should be a crime but isn’t. Hiring a loser coach and setting a NFL for consecutive playoff losses should also be crimes but it passes for entertainment in Texas.
Emmit is just trying to keep it real.
