The other Alex Smith lands in Philly

A day after working out for the Giants, and only three days after being cut by the Patriots, tight end Alex Smith has agreed to terms with the Eagles, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Schefter, the deal is expected to be signed today.
Smith was a third-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2005, and he signed a free-agent deal with the Patriots was traded to New England in the offseason. But he lost a battle with Benjamin Watson that neither man likely realized was an all-or-nothing competition.
As we reported last night, the Giants also worked out Leonard Pope on Monday.

Smith was not a free-agent pickup from the Pats, they traded a fifth round pick for him.
Florio no one cares about your Giants.
Tomservo24.....survey says "Florio is an idiot"
that makes two guys that the Patriots cut this season that they gave up 5th round picks for during the offseason.
Who'd they cut? Or did they put Vick on the exempt roster 'til he's off suspension?
Kev, they cut the other tight end Tony Curtis. I don't know if I like this move yet, I guess we'll see when this guy Alex Smith suits up. Tony Curtis looked pretty decent as a backup, I guess they think smith can be better.
Adam Caplan is reporting they are cutting Tony Curtis.
Vick was already on the exempt list.
The Eagles released tight end Tony Curtis.
dawk - they didn't give up a 5th for Lewis - they swapped a 5th for a 7th.
They cut TE TOny CUrtis
its funny becuz he got #82. lol. 82smith. brings back BAD memories!! lol.
Vicks - They got a seventh with him, yes, but they gave up a 5th did they not?
PGDIEHARDEAGLESFAN :
PG = Penns Grove??
Anyway, Not sure why they wouldnt Cut a WR...Perhaps Brown and keep 3 TE for Depth...Boggles the Mind!
jreed - they got the young te on the practice squad. they'll bring him up or call schobel/curtis back if they need additional te's.
jreed is correct. Keep 3 tight ends and get rid of the malcontent stiff, Reggie Brown.
