Who’s the most powerful NFL figure in the San Francisco Bay Area right now?
Ann Killion of SI.com thinks it’s agent Eugene Parker.
And she’s right.
Parker is currently holding both of the region’s teams hostage right now, via the holdout of 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree and the failure of defensive lineman Richard Seymour to report to the Raiders, three days and counting after he was traded from the Patriots.
Rarely does a player sit out an entire NFL season for reasons other than money or misconduct. This year, two guys very well could opt to not play.
Both are represented by Parker.
Eugene Parker is a tool.
/thread
Parker’s the worst kind of sleaze. He can’t seriously believe he has leverage in the Crabtree fiasco. They’ve debacled this to the point that their only option is to take what the 49ers are giving. Sitting out the whole year is clearly not an option, unless there’s tampering going on.
The agent is not the person with the power. They work for the player.
Crabtree and Seymour are the ones actually holding the power cause if they want to get a deal done and /or report, then they will instruct their agent Mr. Parker to get it done……..or be fired.
As with most agents this Parker guys sounds like a gambler. He’s betting that these teams will give in to him. They might be stupid enough to do so, but if they don’t Parker’s clients will lose out on some serious money.
Most Powerful? I can’t agree with that, even in the bay area. Most reckless maybe, but not most powerful.
Ditto. There is no worse agent this side of Master P.
Michael Crabtree is an idiot and Richard Seymour is smart. I don’t understand everything in Crabtree’s case, but I would do the same thing if I was Seymour. Traded out of the blue to a team that has serious issues, with no heads up or anything. Another reason why I don’t like Bill Belicheck. He might be a great coach, but he completely fails as a person… but what the heck were the Raiders thinking?!? A FIRST ROUND PICK for Seymour!!! The guy is injury prone and is getting ready to turn 30.
Seriously, if I were an athlete represented by Eugene Parker, I would fire his ass right now. This guys is an unbelievable tool. There’s a difference between a hard-nose agent who will push things to the brink but knows when to step back (Rosenhaus, Boras) and this idiot.
Sitting out entire seasons will hurt both players careers–especially Crabtree who’s not a proven NFL commodity like Seymour–more than I can possibly say. Seymour will probably get his payday, but Al was gonna have to pay him big bucks evne if his agent was Elmo from Sesame Street.
But if Crabtree seriously thinks he can throw a tantrum and then get drafted in the top ten again in 2010–or even the first round–he’s on some kind of marvelous hallucinogens. Not to mention the absurdity of the fact that he’s holding out based on a bruised ego because he didn’t get drafted as high as a bunch of mock drafts projected him to be. That’s the NFL draft, dolt!
If one or both of his clients sit out based on his advice, Parker should have a ruined career.
Eugene Parker is a tool.
As are his clients Crabtree and Seymour if they listen to his b.s. and sit out the season. Especially Crabtree, at least Seymour is (or should be) already set for life financially.
I thought Parker was blaming Crabtree? You make it sound like he is the one engineering the holdout.
I also doubt that Parker has much influence over whether Seymour reports to the Raiders either.
He appears to me to be along for the ride with both, not the Machiavellian puppet master.
neither team will transform into a super bowl contender, or even a playoff team, with these guys.
parker playing hardball guarantees he wont get paid either.
smart guy…somebody has to take a stand
PLZ
this is not news to Bills Fans
Jason “i need a raise every 4 games” Peters directly blew 3 games for Buff last yr ((and wouldve cost them the Jax game had Chambers not manned up)) signed a huge contract in Philly & has blocked poorly in the preseason ((actually their line looks terrible, woulda been fantastic 2yrs ago))
He has already peaked, ask most bills fans and they’ll tell you the same.
He was absolutely “not” a pro-bowl talent last yr ((can anyone say ruben brown)) who will always be athletically gifted enough to seem dominant from time to time but makes critical mental errors often enough to crush important drives ((“ruben brown” again)). AND man oh man has his run blocking been overrated his entire career or what?!? Check the bills statistics for the past 2 or 3 yrs when running to the left or right and you’ll see what i mean, k.c. joyner just solidified what i was sure i’d already known.
#@%$ parker, #@%$ rosenhaus AND #@%$ the greedy @$$ players who choose to be represented by them.
Why are the Patsies the only ones who realize the key to prolonged franchise success is to trade with the Bengals/Raiders/Lions of the league?
makes me sick, some of those ——- trades stink of collusion
Seymour knows he isnt worth a top-5 pick in any yr and Al Davis probably is convinced that hes only giving up about a #25-32 pick. Oakland… get your sister to babysit the kids, take Al out to the pasture, put a couple of shells in the back of his head and then dont tell anyone the secret ingredient that made that night’s dinner taste so good. Trust me, its for the best. I wouldnt be shocked to read about Al losing control of his bladder on the carpet or biting someone & giving them rabies, time to put the old dog down… i know some of ya’ll still have fond memories of him when he was a puppy ((late 70s early 80s)) but he cant perform those tricks anymore.
Jason Peters and Steven Jackson both had lengthy holdouts and both were clients of that dirtbag.
I have to agree with you bill, parker works for the players. he does what they tell him to do. if either or both sit out a year it is their choice, not some all powerful agent pulling the strings.
I feel sorry for the 9ers and their problems with Crabtree, but part of me really wants him to sit out the year…. just to see how it unfolds.
Seymour I’m sure will report a late as possible, but I think the Raiders made a good trade. If he doesn’t report they don’t lose anything, if he does report they get a quality lineman for at least a year but probably 2-3 with the use of the franchise tag or an extension. I personally think 1st RND picks especially for teams with bad front offices, like the Raiders are just a crap shot. Seymour will cost less than any rookie DE/DT they could get in the draft and is a proven player.
I agree with Bill in DC. You’ve been reporting that Parker has distanced himself from the Crabtree holdout when trying to attract clients. Now you are acting as if he’s the mastermind. Quality flip flop reporting! Welcome to the big time, keep suckling at NBC’s teet.
Crabtree goes top five next year if he holds out. He was best receiver in this draft.
I think Parker has Florio by the balls and made him write this stupid article.
The Crabass and Seymour situations are different and neither player has the leverage. Both have demonstrated they are all about the money. Both will make $0 if they continue on their current courses.
Besides, Seymour got traded out of the blue to a team that has struggled mightily the last 6 years on a holiday weekend. Maybe he wants to get his personal affairs in order before moving across the country. Nah, that would make too much sense.
I think in a year or two, Eugene will have a hard time recruiting if he keeps this up. He hasn’t had a round 1 player in on time for training camp in along time.
If Mr. Parker is not careful and his reputation continues down this path, he will never have a top talent sign with him again (teams will avoid players that sign with him)… which may be the best thing for the NFL.
Memo to Parker: What’s 10% of ZERO DOLLARS??!!
@Child_Please!
I don’t believe it is that simple. These agents get a percentage of whatever the guaranteed money is. At this point in the season, it is in the agent’s best interest to get the most money possible. A player telling an agent to just cave and get a deal done can be the difference between $19 or $21 million guaranteed. Now that is only 10% of guaranteed money for the player. That doesn’t seem to be a ton of money to squabble about but Mr Parker isn’t squabbling over his player’s 10%, he is thinking about his own take being seriously affected by that $2 million difference.
Parker is a complete idiot!
Would you want your son represented by an agent who cant get a deal done? This should hurt parkers ability to get first rounders next year.
Crabtree sitting, and going back into the draft isnt as bad for the 49ers as drafting a bust that high. You draft Mike Williams or Charles Rogers & sign him you pay millions you get no return on, at least they arent paying Crabby anything.
As for Seymour, it sucks, but that’s life. He had it great for several years, now he either needs to suck it up or not play.
“Parker has Bay Area teams by the balls”
Does he? Maybe temporarily.
But, when Crabtree sits out the entire year and reenters the draft in a much worse position next year and realizes how much money he’s lost, Parker will be in a much worse position from a negotiating standpoint and this will impact his reputation.
Similarly, if Seymour doesn’t report to the Raiders and ends up on the reserve/left list by the Patriots and is forced to sit out a full season, Parker’s ability to negotiate a prime contract for him will be similarly impacted. Either or both players could ultimately decide to fire him and other players might follow suit. And, players entering the draft will likely avoid him for other agents that get them signed and playing and there are many other agents out there who get their clients paid.
Also, teams could begin to avoid drafting players he represents, in a similar fashion to how some MLB teams avoid clients of Scott Boras during the draft, which will then hurt the players draft stock and their earnings.
In Parker’s case, not all publicity is good publicity and he’s not doing anything that is bringing a positive light on his ability to get his players paid and on the field.
…but I would do the same thing if I was Seymour. Traded out of the blue to a team that has serious issues, with no heads up or anything….
lol@no heads up for Seymour. When Seymour, who has previously held out of a Patriots training camp to weasel more money, was asked in the off-season if he would give the Patriots a “hometown discount” with his next contract his response was “My hometown is in South Carolina”. And now he is apparently whining that he has to uproot his family from Massachusetts to move to the Oakland area…huh???? I thought his hometown was in South Carolina.
Seymour’s heads up was making it clear that he was headed to UFA and would not be re-signed by the Pats. He obviously had plans to play somewhere other than in Massachusetts or South Carolina next season, and the Pats gave him his wish this season. Belichick should be commended for being so kind…lol…
Eugene Parker is a complete douche bag. There should be limits on the crap agents can pull. This guy is seriously causing problems through the league. It would be much better off without him. Why in the hell does he feel like his players will be better
off sitting out a year rather than getting a year of experience and
pay. Parker is a complete dumbass
I am the only one who realizes that this guy has 5 days to report, 3 days and counting my A.
Imagine this in the real world
Realworld= (Tues)Joe we are transfering you to our Oakland office. Remember you have to show up by Monday or they can write you up.
So make sure you make it by Monday
NFL Land=(Tues) Joe we are transfering you to our Oakland Team, Remember Leauge Rules state you must be there by Monday or they can fine you, and posibly deny your transfer. So make sure you make it by Monday. Oh and if you dont make it there bye tomorrow. The media will start to salivate and begin dragging your name through the mud calling you a premadonna and money hungry whore who needs to grow up and get a new agent. But remember you dont have to be there till monday,
Anyone see the difference.
Timo, if you knew Belichick you’d know how completely wrong you are. He is a great guy – lazy journalists perpetuate the myth he’s some sort of ogre but he’s not. And yes, I do know firsthand.
If Belichick is anything, he’s consistent. Seymour was been with the Patriots for more than 9 years and knows his m.o.
But don’t let facts get in the way of a good fairytale.
Parker is a gambling tool and a college player coming into an upcoming draft has to be crazy to choose him as an agent.
Bay area by the balls……… heh heh
I really can’t see how they can think that sitting out a year and re-entering the draft is better than accepting the 49er’s offer and playing this year. Unbeleiveable
What a powerful agent…oooh.
Does this chick realize that two numbnuts holding out has no effect on anything?
Neither Parker OR his clients are getting paid this season. Great move.
Drew Rosenhaus is burning with envy.
If Seymour doesn’t like it, then he should get a job at McDonald’s or Gold’s Gym. He’s living a dream that a small percentage of the men in the U.S. achieve.
As for Crabtree (if I was the owner of the 49ers), I would say, “Maybe you will get picked in the top 5 in next year’s draft”
“He appears to me to be along for the ride with both, not the Machiavellian puppet master.”
Maybe you should read this post:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/21/parker-becoming-the-new-holdout-agent/
Since when does the bay area have balls? Not since Ronnie Lott left, I’ll bet.
San Fransciso, don’t budge with Crabtree. Bigtime holdouts like this usually become busts especially wide receivers. Plus, no one knows how well Crabtree can run. I’ve heard he has a Lisc Franc injury which is the equivilant of having a hoof as a foot. I see him being a Reggie Williams type wideout with much more drama. Let him re-enter the draft and see where he goes next year. I also think the NFL should give special recognition to the 49ers and award them another first round pick in next years draft for standing up to these rediculous rookie divas. Way to go San Fran! Don’t put up with this BS.
at what point does this begin to really damage Parker? Is this already to a point where teams would draft one player or another based on the fact that said players are evenly graded but one has Parker as their agent?…although, Seymour’s case is obviously quite a bit different than Crabtree’s.
“HE WHO HAS THE MONEY HAS THE POWER”
quote for all situations, saw it in a movie once
Think Crabby has officially earned biggest bust of 09.
Someone mentioned Seymour might be working on a new contract/extension with Oakland. With Parker as his agent I find that doubtful.
Guessing he finds the slowest players (mentally) and gets them as clients.
Timo22 says:

You’re joking, right? The NFL is a BUSINESS.
The NFL doesn’t need Crabtree. Crabtree needs the NFL a lot more. I doubt he will get picked in the top 10 if he goes back into the draft. The 49ers can use that cap space to sign some proven veteran players instead.
Seymour was traded because the Patriots knew they couldn’t resign him. If he wants to sit out the year that is his option but no free agency for him if he does. Parker is inflicting finacial ruin on his clients if you ask me.
How great would it be if next years draft had a mandatory slotting rookie cap? How much of a dumbass would Crabtree and Parker be then.
As for Seymour, just shut your hole and play. We all know it is a business. Congrats to Belicheck for ensuring a top 5 talent in two years, or trading the pick to some idiot team for a boatload of draft picks.
Ann Killion still has a job? Gimme a break, do the Raiders really care if he shows or not? . They are still going to play every game with or with out him. The question is does Seymour want to get paid or not, and that has nothing to do with the Raiders. It has everything to do with Seymour Butts.
took this from a PATS board about seymours 2006 contract.
http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-p…ct-details.html
insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insid…len&id=2408421
The total value for four years is $30.026 million.
Seymour received a $5.34 million signing bonus.
The first option bonus is for $6.66 million and is payable between Aug. 4 of this year and next March.
The second of the option bonuses, for $12 million, is due the first week of next March.
Failure to exercise the options means that Seymour’s base salary for 2007 goes from $600,000 to $19.26 million, all of it guaranteed, and that he becomes an unrestricted free agent after the ’07 season.
Base Salaries:
2006-$585,000
2007-$600,000
2008-$730,000
2009-$3.685
offseason workout bonuses of $106,720 each for 2006-2009.
The cap charges:
$4.42 million for 2006 (identical to pre-extension cap charge)
$8.26 million for 2007,
$8.391 million for 2008 and
$11.34 million for 2009

Crabtree goes top five next year if he holds out. He was best receiver in this draft.
Are you serious? Top 5…he wouldn’t even be in the 1st round.
i disagree. Parker doesn’t have those teams’ balls…. he has the player’s balls and he’s ruining their chances to continue on playing.
Crabtree will suffer more than the 49′ers, and Seymour will suffer more than the Raiders (by virtue of the Raiders getting their first-round pick back, which is worth more than Seymour is).
Parker is a tool who should have his license revoked as he clearly doesn’t have the players’ best interests in mind.
