The signs haven’t looked good for Saints running back Pierre Thomas for a few days now. After missing Saints practice Wednesday, Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune says it’s time to rule Thomas “out” for the season opener against Detroit.
Fantasy leaguers that just drafted Thomas won’t like the news, but the Saints rushing game should be in capable hands. Reggie Bush and Mike Bell will likely carry the load against a Detroit defensive front line that could be the weakest part of a rather weak roster.
And it’s not like Saints coach Sean Payton needs an excuse to call a lot of pass attempts. (He called 40 passes against the Lions last year . . . in a 42-7 win.)
One year after Drew Brees flirted with the league’s passing yardage record, it wouldn’t be surprise if Brees is “on pace” to break it after the opener.

sean payton himself could fill in at RB and put up 100 yards against the lions’ defensive line. they’re a 1200 lb vegetable strainer.
So that means that the Saints will be down to 1 back next week after Reggie goes down with an injury.
Hmmm – picked him in fantasy…
who would you play instead – reggie bush or tim hightower?
To Raider Clay, Play Reggie because the Cardinals are notorious for calling pass plays even on the 1yrd line limiting hightowers chances. Bush is a much safer bet albeit not to intriguing
@raiderclay
reggie bush. the man is a fantasy BEAST
@ Raider
i would go hightower bc he also has a good matchup against SF this week
No need to rush PT back before he needs to come back. The Saints currently have Reggie, Mike Bell, and Lynell Hamilton on the active roster to use as a three-headed monster, not even counting fullback Heath Evans.
Considering how bad the Lions are at run defense, I don’t think they’ll have any problems.
@raider: Pick up Mike Bell. He’s solid between the tackles and can catch. Reggie will get hurt anyways.
