Vick will attend Week One game as spectator

When the Eagles played their first preseason game with Mike Vick on the roster, we reported that Vick wasn't taken to Indianapolis because the team didn't want to expose Vick to a potentially hostile reaction in another team's venue.

We were shouted down by folks who claimed that Vick was staying home simply because it's coach Andy Reid's longstanding policy to not bring to road games players who aren't eligible to play in the game.

So, of course, for the team's first regular-season road game, Vick will be traveling to Carolina, despite the fact that he's not allowed to play in the game.  And despite Reid's hard and fast, no exceptions rule.

"Michael will travel this week," coach Andy Reid said Wednesday.  "Michael will travel."

Since he's suspended for the first two games of the season, Vick won't be permitted to join the team on the sidelines.

In our view, Vick is making the trip to Charlotte primarily because the reaction to him hasn't been nearly as negative as many thought it would be.  And if the Eagles believed in August that the reaction to him wouldn't have been negative in Indianapolis, Vick would have been there, too.

Regardless of Reid's rule.

    Very nice Florio, way to throw it right back at us. That is why this site is so successful..not your face-made-for-internet-blogging. I for one was one of the shouters, and I was quite surprised when I read this on Philly.com.

    You do, however, still need to fix the damn app for blackberrys. This is getting rediculous, you had it for like a week, and then it went away again, and it is still the lame option for viewers on the go. I want to be able to scroll all stories, not just the top 6 or 7. And also, when I do click on links from my blackberry, 7-10 times I get an error, "internal server error", and it is isolated to PFT. Youporn works perfectly on my blackberry.

    Way to put the smack down on the commentators, Florio. The rising negativity toward every single item you post here is obnoxious and counterproductive.

    That's not to say you don't lay an egg every now and then...you do...I really wish you would stop promoting pardons for Plaxico and games/teams/Super Bowls overseas. But people just love to hate on anyone and everything on PFT, including you, have plenty of other options.

    Shouted down? Seriously?

    You run an internet rumor site. Every comment that comes in about one of your posts comes in BELOW the post itself, invisible on the main screen. Oh - and, of course, completely non-audible.

    So how is anything anyone here says "shouting you down"?

    Hahahahahahahaa. Ditto. You're also forgetting that in order to do a complete boycott, you're going to have to cut ties with those companies partners as well as any other company who those companies sponsor.

    He's back in the league, and hardly anyonecares. If you're going to give him the power to control your life by dictating what you buy and thinking about him every second, you go right ahead, jtigrrrrr. You're making him worth more of your time than even even the Eagles at this point. You should start a site called "mikevickcontrolsmylife.com". Eagles fans are a pathetic joke. Standing up for Vick? Why? It's not like he's going to do ANYTHING positive for your team, ever. It's not like he cares about Philly or the Eagles, he's only playing for you because the Eagles are the only team stupid enough to pay him (publicity stunt). He just turned the Eagles into a national joke, and yet you pathetic losers like kidekk are actually bragging about it?! Your team just joined the Raiders and the Lions in a 3-way battle to see who can be the worst-managed team in professional sports, and you're excited about it? Listening to Eagles fans try to justify the Vick move is like listening to Raiders fans talk about how much of a draft genius Al Davis was this offseason. PATHETIC.

    Please keep trying to convince us that Vick is a great athlete, though. It's hilarious in a sad kind of way. Who the hell runs backward 30 yards and then fumbles the ball in order to avoid a sack??? Oh wait, no, Vick had a GREAT pre-season. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! It's gotta SUCK to be an Eagles fan right now.

    And here's what I really don't get about these lame fair-weather Eagles fans. Y'all walk out on your team early when they're down in a game, and then you give a standing ovation to a guy who completely destroyed the last team he was on? Before he's ever even played a single snap!!! What is that? That doesn't even make sense!

    I've been to many stadiums in the NFL, and the Linc is still the ONLY one I've ever seen an entire crowd walk-out on their team in the 3rd quarter. WHAT A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR FANS. As much as I might talk trash about the Cowgirls, at least their fans don't walk out on their team in the middle of the game.

    I love it. Never really cared about the Eagles one bit, but now I honestly dislike the team and will be laughing my arse off as Vick gets Reid (and probably the majority of the front office) fired. And they won't be able to blame T.O. this time.

  25. Route36West says: September 9, 2009 9:25 PM

    Or could it possibly be that Reid wants Vick to get a feel for what the reaction will be from an oppossing teams fan on there own turf when the game actually means something?

    @dave the dude

    I'm not an Eagles fan, and I made no comment about the athletic ability of Vick. If you read the statement instead of being ready to label me a pro-Vick person because I was making fun of the fact that someone is going to let Mike Vick determine what products they buy, and that by doing that they will subsequently have to boycott so many things that they will not be able to go anywhere or buy anything, you can go ahead and do that.

    I was not bragging about it, I just said that he's there and hardly anyone cares. And to be frank, why should they? There are people who have done worse who are playing in the NFL and other leagues, and I'm sorry if the only time I think about Mike Vick is when an article pops up on this site, unlike you and jtigrrrr who seem to be consumed with Vick at this time. Why would you waste your time thinking about Mike Vick? I don't get it.

    Once again, you're someone who is too deep in your hatred for Vick that you call anyone who doesn't outright insult him a supporter. Grow a brain, and reread what I wrote. There's nothing in there that says I support Vick. I was making fun of the guy for letting his hatred of Vick consume his life when there are far worse people out there.

    And you're calling people delusional after two showcases of a guy who was out of the league for 2 years? Do you know anything about professional sports? There's a reason why rookie QBs tend to sit even after they come directly from playing 3+ years of college ball. They need to get acclimated, learn and get used to the speed of the game (obviously there are exceptions). I'm not saying he's great, and I'm not saying he sucks. All I'm saying is that if you're going to judge his play off of two preseason games after two years of no football, you're smoking crack.

    Dave the Dude,

    What game were you at? The only game I ever saw people leave en masse in the third was the 40 point trouncing that seattle gave us on Monday night a few years ago.

    Also, worst run organization? Are friggin kidding me? You mentioned Oakland and Detroit. What about the Cowboys, Jets, Redskins, Cleveland, Jax, Minnesota, Arizona, etc, etc ,etc.

    And publicity stunt? Why would they need publicity. They are one of the top teams in every category over the past 10 years (except championships - I get it). They do not need publicity. They have a 60,000 person season ticket waiting list.

    We get it - you do not like Vick. I do not like Vick as a person either. But, I do find myself wondering if he can run a 4.2 40.

    @Sumsh:
    I'm a Seahawks fan, and I was at the MNF game. It was pathetic. As a lifelong Seahawks and UW Huskies fan, I can honestly say I've seen some drubbings of my teams that made that game pale in comparison. And yet I've NEVER seen Seattle sports fans leave a football game that early and that quickly. The Eagles fans I encountered were loud and obnoxious when we arrived, and then they abandoned their team as it was getting beat-up and were taking off their jerseys as they left the stadium (and yeah, we saw it happening, that's why I mentioned it). Pathetic. Probably the worst display of mass poor sportsmanship I've ever seen. Running like dogs with their tails between their legs.

    @kidekk:
    Yeah, sure you're not an Eagles/Vick fan. That's why you've posted 30-50 comments in support of Vick and the Eagles on every Vick-related article in the last few weeks. And why you keep insulting everyone who says they're upset about the signing. Look, I don't care how you feel about the whole thing, but at least you could be honest. Sitting here trying to pretend you're not riding Vick's jock, though? Have some integrity. State your opinion and stand behind it like a man, don't give us all that double-talk nonsense about not being a jock-rider and then start riding his jock right after saying it. That's just lame.

    And yeah, I do hate Vick.

    Only the lowest form of human scum could find entertainment from hanging a dog, drowning it in a bucket, slamming its body to the ground, or electrocuting it with a car battery to the testicles. Put a small child in the place of that dog and every person in America would be demanding the death penalty for Vick and everyone involved.

    Enjoy the reprieve from extreme poverty and irrelevance, Vick. It will be short indeed. Make no mistake that very soon (perhaps even less than a season from now), even Dungy will be blowing you off on your way to the garbage heap. Nobody will remember you, nobody will care. You'll be mocked by the world (when they DO remember you) and the butt of jokes for as long as you live. Even the Eagles fans that pretend to like you now will find you despicable once the team kicks you out. You'll be working for pennies as a construction laborer, struggling to make a living and crushed by impossible debts. Like many who struggle with a lifetime of poverty, perhaps you'll be tempted to deal drugs and spend some time in prison where you can experience first-hand some of the things you did to those dogs (forced fighting, rapes, etc). Worst of all, your family will all know how much of a failure you really were, both you and your brother. You will be hated for that. You actually had a shot. You got a chance that most people never get. A real, honest-to-god shot at unimaginable wealth, enough wealth to keep 2-3 generations of your family secure for life, and you somehow found a way to f**k that up. Everyone around you knows it. And thinks you are the world's biggest LOSER as a result. They will despise you, even your own family will hate you for that. And the vast majority will be laughing at your failure and taking sadistic joy in your downfall.

    Karma sure is a b*tch, isn't it?

    -----------
    And if a chick had balls she'd be a dude. And if deer were human beings, then what? What's your point?

    As for me insulting people, the only people that I clearly recall insulting are Dr. Michael, who tried to paint everyone who isn't as outraged by Vick, much like you, as being of low moral character and thought that selling his tickets to other people would be a good form of protest, which would be stupid because those people would still go to the game and give the organization money, and killachap in jest. And probably any person who takes the idiotic stance that if you're not insulting Mike Vick or believe he should be back in the league that you are a Mike Vick supporter. As for riding Vick's jock, you obviously don't remember what I wrote so that's really a dumb comment to make when you have no evidence to back it up.

    And double-talking? You know, what rational people like to do is be able to look at things from all angles instead of taking one hard line stance while ignoring every valid point that can be made against their position. I have stated my opinion on this subject numerous times, and it's always been the same: what he did was horrible, but why is he more morally suited to work a construction job than play in the NFL? It makes no sense and what it comes down to at the end of the day is how much money he makes, and the fact that he is doing something that a lot of people wish they could do for a living. It was always a business decision: replaceable commodities will be replaced, unique commodities will be sustained until they are no longer unique.

    As for honesty, what reason would I have to be dishonest? I have apologized to people on this board when I have been wrong, and I have even given credence to those people who make valid points even if they counter what I have said. If anything, I have been too honest with my opinions because I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong or consider what someone else is saying.

    As for your hatred for Mike Vick and what he did to dogs, do you value human life more than that of an animal? Do you share the same disgust and hatred for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jerramy Stevens? What about Bryant McKinnie and the Minnesota Vikings? Or Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens?

    A newscaster put it best. She said that when there are stories about people getting murdered, they get little to no emails from people about the sunject. But when there is something bad done to an animal, emails come flooding in. What Mike Vick did is bad, but considering that the life of an animal is nothing compared to that of a human, as you admitted to yourself, I'm sorry if it upsets you that not everyone agrees with your stance or wants to continue to villify the Eagles.

    This country, I'm assuming you're in the US, was built on violence and giving people second chances, ask Ted Kennedy about that, so the fact that I see nothing wrong with Mike Vick being allowed to play football again because there are people who have done much worse things and didn't face this much fanfare isn't really that outrageous. Don King killed someone over $600 or something like that (stomped him to death), but I'm sure you still watched Tyson fights. Our country dropped 2 atomic bombs for $#!+s and giggles, killing numerous civilians, still drops bombs in areas trying to kill two people while taking out dozens of civilians, Nike wanted cheap labor in order to maximize its profits so it went overseas and exploited children, some people's grandparents were present at lynchings, some people are assaulted because they are gay, a guy on probation for sexual assault can have someone he kidnapped living on the back of his property for over a decade without anyone taking the time to do a thorough check of the property, people on this very board are saying that they are greatful that Merriman assaulted Tila Tequila (some in jest, some.....maybe not), and animals are killed every day in a variety of different ways. I should think that Mike Vick is the worst person, lowest of scum, because he killed 6 dogs, albeit in a crazy fashion? Am I really missing something here. You probably don't bat an eye when you hear about people dying in suicide bomb attacks in Israel, or someone goes on a killing spree, but you're going to say society is going to hell because Mike Vick killed dogs and is playing football again? Really. Dogs lives that are valued so much that they are killed daily in order to make room for new dogs that will eventually be killed if they are not wanted to make room for some more dogs that will be killed? Using your baby point, do you think there would be no outrage if babies that were put up for adoption were killed after a certain period of time because no one wanted them?

    Of course, you'll see this as me riding/supporting Mike Vick instead just looking at for what it is.

    @kidekk:

    No matter how many times you try to convince everyone that what Vick did was not an outrageously heinous act, you will continue to fail.

    You can't compare the brutal murder of innocent dogs to anything on your list. The only thing I'd say would be equivalent, in terms of human victims, would be something like a string of child rapes, or putting children in cages and making them fight each other to the death, and then torturing and killing the ones you don't like. Something really twisted and sick like that.

    Killing dogs for fun, watching them writhe on the ground in their death throes, taking pleasure and finding entertainment in the brutal torture and murder of living things. That is some seriously twisted stuff. It's not that he was fighting the dogs, it's that he was actively torturing and killing the dogs himself, for fun.

    There is an element of cruelty and sadism to that act, an element of extreme evil that goes way beyond anything on your list. It is a deep and twisted evil that could only be enjoyed by a heart without love, without mercy, without any respect for life in any form, a heart without a shred of humanity. It is the extreme sadism and cruelty that only a psychotic sociopath could find pleasure in. Who enjoys killing animals or people? A sick and demented sociopath, and that's it.

    I feel no pity or forgiveness for Vick. A sociopath like Vick should not be on the streets with our children, because anyone who's willing to kill animals for entertainment is only a small step from killing humans for entertainment.
