Check out the PFT Week One picks

As part of our new gig with NBC, we’ve agreed to make weekly game picks.

They’re free, which means that you’ll nearly get your money’s worth.

Rosenthal and I have split the duties, and our first effort (emphasis on “effort”) is right here.

You can review the picks, you can make your own picks, and then you can come back here and post comments about how stupid we are.

Speaking of stupid, Rosenthal is the one who picked the Titans to beat the Steelers.  Yours truly would have picked Pittsburgh.

We’ll see who the stupid one really is later tonight.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a piece of bread stuck in the toaster.  I hope I can get it out with this knife.  I’d unplug the unit from the wall first, but that takes too much effort.

The definition of irony: “Speaking of stupid, Rosenthal is the one who picked the Titans to be the Steelers.”

Hey! These are great. I loved the Philly/Carolina writeup.

  5. LightningBolts says: Sep 10, 2009 3:06 PM

I would like to look through the picks but I don’t feel like clicking through all the pages.
I know it will cost you page views but is there not a way to get them on one page or somehow get them easier to view?

  6. WinnerWinnerChickenDinner says: Sep 10, 2009 3:08 PM

Wow, that link is horrible to navigate with having to click on each individual matchup. Heaven forbid all of your picks appear on the screen at the same time.

    Giants 28 Skins 10
    Eagles 35 Panthers17

Well, at least you didn’t go chalk for every pick. Ravens 22-9? What is that, 11 safetys? Redskins over Giants? Wow. 49ers win? Double wow!

  9. brian_21 says: Sep 10, 2009 3:17 PM

ya we will see about that florio..idiot…iggles suck!!

“We’ll see who the stupid one really is later tonight.” That statement implies that one of you is not stoopid.

These look like fun, and written in a lively style to boot. But I wish nbc.com would use a different interface for these picks pages. I gave up reading Novacek’s picks altogether because I got sick of paging through that slow, clunky system and then having to jump 15 steps back in my history to back out of the page. Surely something Flash-based, like their photo slide show format, could be used for this? Or, if they’re all short blurbs, run them all on one page a la Peter King or King Kaufman’s old column?

  13. raybin says: Sep 10, 2009 3:27 PM

Glad you guys had the Raiders make a respectable showing in your prediction. That’s really all I’m asking for at this point.

  14. leatherneck says: Sep 10, 2009 3:29 PM

I don’t watch a video on the Internet unless it is really, really necessary. In this case, a simple list of the picks would suffice.
    Thus, sorry. I’ll pass.

  15. BDiddy says: Sep 10, 2009 3:33 PM

So you’re projecting Buffalo to hold New England to 21 points? They will have that much by the end of the first quarter.

  16. RIP__21 says: Sep 10, 2009 3:34 PM

Cards put up only 16 on the niners? Dont think so. I also think you underestimate the pats O, and overestimate the raiders, broncos, bears, and even the chiefs scoring potential. But hey thats just me.
Oh btw Tennessee melts down the steel curtain again tonight. Lendale White will give the TT another stomping. PEACE!

    well, you got one right.

Just click print these and they all show up.
As for Florio and Rosenthal, I wish I played Fantasy Football against these guys for money. They make all their picks based on last year….lol
You heard it here first. Saints overconfidence leads to their downfall.
    Lions 28 – Saints 24

  19. The Analyst says: Sep 10, 2009 4:13 PM

Redskins 20 Giants 10? My goodness I think you’ve been smoking something funny. While I think its possible that we may catch the Gints napping this week even I, as die hard a Skin fan as I am, predict this to be a Redskin loss. :(
    Hope I’m wrong.

  20. ShadowWind says: Sep 10, 2009 4:18 PM

The Multipage-within a page style is what MSNBC’s used for years, one kind ‘a gets used to it after a while.
As for the picks (W-L): I actually tended to agree with most of the Florio/Rosenthal joint prognostications, though not necessarily with the reasoning behind them. Had to go with the Steelers over the Titans though, the Giants over the Skins, the Cards over the 49ers, and the Bears over the Packers (pretty much a toss-up on that one).
Granted, it’s hard to predict how well the teams will really play in a new season on the first real game of the season, but there you go.

Im Pretty impressed with these picks here Florio/Rosenthal. Especially the Redskins over the Giants. It defies all logic but I agree. I just like how DC matches up with NY. The Redskins always play the NFC East hard and this game will be no exception. I also believe the Giants a really good team but with saying that I feel they are gonna be huge underacheivers this year. You can blame that on the front office b/c whats gonna kill them is there wide outs. The FO went out and loaded up on DL’s when that was already there strongest position then dumped 2 starting quality WR’s and didnt get anyone to fill there spots. They went out and got rookies who may be good in a year or two but you cant expect them to carry the team at wr THIS YEAR. I think that will be the down fall of the giants this year.
Theres a few picks I dont agree with
Titans over the Steelers ( Come on Greg)
    49ers over the Cardinals?! (Wow)
Packers over the Bears (Now thats a good pick, that games a coin toss ,but I just think Cutler, Olson, and Forte are gonna out-shine Rodgers,Jennings, and Grant)

    You took Jay Novacek’s jerrrb!!
Format is still terrible…do you guys get paid each time we must click the next game?

  26. Electrogasm says: Sep 10, 2009 5:26 PM

You might want to update the helmet logos every now and then.
The Chargers helmet is from nearly three years ago.
And so is your thought process.

Awful site design. Single list summary please … if NBC wants to know how to do it, just tell them to look at any other website on the internet.
