Finnegan fumbles punt return chance

Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan might not keep the team’s starting punt return job for long.

Finnegan fumbled his second chance at a return Thursday night, although he recovered the ball.

The Titans took a risk when they released return specialist Mark Jones last week, and they almost paid dearly for the decision.  Finnegan only had two career punt returns before tonight’s opener.

Rookie receiver Kenny Britt is another candidate for return duties, but they may be hesitant to overload him with responsibilities.  Britt has two catches for 72 yards through two and a half quarters.

UPDATE: Finnegan tried to call a fair catch on his next punt return chance . . . before the ball was kicked.  Since you can’t do that, he caught the ball and was steamrolled by Steelers defenders.  Expect the Titans to find a return man next week.

The Bills will happily trade them Roscoe Parrish for some line depth. Offensive OR defensive.

    hey douche..
the fair catch must be signaled when the ball is in the air.
read the rules, or at least listen to the broadcast before you type.

You’re right. I wish they’d call holding when James Harrison gets tackled trying to rush the passer.

Mark Jones was let go because he wasn’t 100% healthy. He hasn’t hurt enough to qualify for an injury settlement, though.
That’s why he wasn’t signed by the Panthers recently. He failed his physical.
He needs to get 100% healthy first. Tennessee couldn’t wait for that so they cut him. I thought they might resign him sometime later this season if they could get by with Ringer & Finnegan returning kicks in the meantime. But now it looks like they will have to bring someone else in, like maybe Justin Miller or Bobby Wade.

why on earth is he even trying to catch the ball on the 5 yard line?
especially if after letting the first 2 punts of the steelers roll 20 one of them from the titans 30 yard line?
