McFadden will start for Raiders

Lost in the continuing confusion of the Richard Seymour situation, Raiders coach Tom Cable dropped some news that Raider Nation has been waiting to hear.

The team will start Darren McFadden at running back Monday night against the Chargers. Cable was asked why last year’s fourth overall pick got the job.

“I just think for everything that he is in terms of being multiple, running the football, catching the football,” Cable said. “He’s shown a high level of consistency all through camp and certainly brings some explosiveness like we’re trying to build with this offense.”

The decision was made easier because last year’s starter Justin Fargas isn’t fully healthy and is uncertain to play the opener. But the team needed to make the change, and Fargas could find himself behind McFadden and Michael Bush when he is ready.

We’ve said it before this preseason, but Oakland’s best chance for a .500 record this season resides in building an overpowering running game.

Giving McFadden as many touches as possible sounds like a good start.
