Are you kidding me? Let’s see, Ware has been a standup guy since the day he showed up. Shawne has been suspended for steroids, the center of the whole lights out dance BS, and now brings domestic abuse allegations into the locker room. Ware has shown up, done his job better than almost every other LB, and kept his nose clean.
Ware was also a BEAST before Wade showed up, so try that one again, too.
With your revisionist history, I would swear you are just another screen name for that moron that tried to convince everyone that Jerry built Texas Stadium with a crowned field for a competitive advantage.

I think it’s unfair to say Ware is superior to Merriman at this point. Merriman has played well in every season, with the exception of last year when he was injured. Ware’s play really only started to pick up when Merriman’s old defensive coordinator (Wade Phillips) became his head coach. Phillips may be a bum of a HC, but he cab coach the 3-4 defense..

The Cowboys Listen to there scouts. Jerry does not go in there and point at a name on the wall and goes with it.
He listens to his scouts and Coaches (Head, OC, DC, ST)! Also Stephen Jones is in on the decisons.
They come to a decision. If a decision can’t be reached within the times limits of the draft.
Jerry has the final say……….
So if a debate went on about Ware and Merriman & it was 50/50 in the room.
Jerry makes the call!
If a 50/50 was the case in 2005. Jerry drafted Ware!
But I have no idea that was the case.
I assumed everyone was on board with the drafting of Ware. I know I was!!!

I keep hearing these claims that Jerry Jones forced Parcells to take Ware before Spears and I have to wonder if theres any proof? Whenever anyone talks about what a smart drafter JJ is, I think back to picks like Shante Carver and Kavika Pittman. It just doesn’t add up for me.

It was (Asst. GM) Jeff Ireland and (scout) Tom Ciskowski who convinced Jerry and Parcells to go with Ware, not Jerry alone.

Wrong!!!!
Parcells wanted to draft DE, Marcus Spears with the 11th pick in the 2005 draft.
Jones overruled Parcells and drafted LB, DeMarcus Ware!
The thinking was Ware and Merriman were the two top Pass Rusher in the draft. The likely hood those to would slip pick #20 was unlikely.
So THE COWBOYS selected Ware over Merriman & hoped Spears would be there at pick #20!
It worked, Cowboys landed the two players they wanted in the ’05 Draft!
TOO much credit is given to Parcells!
How about this gem! 2003 Draft, 2nd rd., Jason Witten on the board. Parcells opts for C, Al Johnson.
Cowboys get lucky as Witten is still on the board in the 3rd rd.
What a mistake that was. The Cowboys wanted to use the 2nd rd. pick on Witten, but sided with New Head Coach Parcells.

Actually, The Tuna wanted to select DE Marcus Spears with Dallas’ first first round pick (#12 I believe), but Jerry Jones overruled him. So he should thank himself.

This is stunningly bad reporting Mr Florio. In fact Merriman was NEVER a consideration and it was Jerry that forced the selection of Ware over Spears, the player Parcells wanted to take at that spot. Parcells was adamant that Spears was the better player and Jerry overruled him.
“there aren’t many more pressing matters for the Dallas Cowboys than finding a way to keep linebacker DeMarcus Ware.”
Dallas isn’t going to ‘lose’ DeMarcus Ware. in 2010, if he isn’t signed, they will make him the exclusive rights franchise player (ala Julius Peppers this season) since it will be an uncapped year, the 20mil that will take is no big deal. Dallas is not going to tag him as an restricted free agent, any team would be more than happy to cough up a 1 & 3 for Ware.
