With Jets linebacker Calvin Pace suspended (not to mention defensive end Shaun Ellis), Rex Ryan isn’t playing with a full deck in his first game as Jets head coach.
So Ryan is forced to turn to a wild card: last year’s first-round pick Vernon Gholston. Despite some numbers in the preseason, most folks around the Jets aren’t convinced Gholston is up to the challenge.
New York Daily News writer Rich Cimini expects the Texans to run right at Gholston, who struggled in the preseason to shed blocks and show natural football instincts. (Which is somewhat important when you are, um, a professional football player.)
Matt Schaub has declared himself ready for the season opener, but we have suspicion that Florio favorite Steve Slaton will be a bigger key in the game. And the presence of Gholston may make life a lot easier on the entire Houston running game.
Is that the same Vernon Gholston that was on special teams last year. Wow, the work out warrior is finally getting on the field. BUSTTTTT
he better be a bigger factor, Slaton’s my number 2 RB!
Hey Gregg…Is it in your contract to mention Florio EVERY TIME you post? Just curious because it makes you sound like a sychophant.
You are only building me up…buttercup…
Baby…just to let me down…
Seriously, though, my Texans did not look exactly proficient in the running game in the preseason.
i’d run right by him not right at him, if you go right at him you may trip as you go over him
I’m guessing this isn’t the first time someone suspected Rex Ryan wasn’t playing with a full deck.
A someone who has hated the Jets since back to the Parcels superbowl betrayal I always enjoy hearing about Mr. Gholstons performance.
Don’t be shocked when the raiders trade their 2020 first round pick for Gholston
how much is the Green Ghost’s guaranteed contract for again?
WIN:

My Friday is complete. Thank you.
Yes, they’ll run right at him. Then knock him over. Then run right past him.
It happened all pre-season. It was fun to watch and laugh at him, but now that the games count it’s not so amusing.
Let it be noted Raider fans. People are making fun of another team. So stop whining. Favre probably made him a bad player.
Don’t count out Vernon “The Green Ghost” just yet. Maybe he will surprise?
