Right place, right time for Brandon Stokley

The storm finally arrived in Cincinnati.

And it was wearing blue and orange.

Veteran receiver Brandon Stokley caught a ball that had been tipped into the air by Bengals cornerback Leon Hall, and Stokley then took the thing the distance — wisely running along the goal line to take more time off the clock — for an 87-yard catch-and-run.

The score put the Broncos up by five points, 12-7, with 11 seconds left.  (The two-point try failed.)

So, in summary, six points were scored in the first 59 minutes and 21 seconds of the game.  And 13 have been scored in the past 27 seconds.

Now, the only storm that’s coming is the one that’ll hit Chad Ochocinco’s Twitter page.

I picked bengals to win it

    made it all worth while

Ahh so that was the storm.

What a lucky s.o.b. That Denver team is more of a joke than the Bengals. The announcer was screaming like a little girl over little excitement in an unexciting game. Stokley is starstruck…

It may be a different year – but the Bengals still suck. Gotta love it.

  5. Atlanta Love says: Sep 13, 2009 4:10 PM

    Poor Bengals.

Will someone who DVRed this please check that miracle play. Presnap I’m thinking, “That’s illegal formation, they don’t have enough men on the line of scrimmage”. No flag. Tell me I’m wrong and that receiver on the bottom was on.

how was there no review on the incomplete pass the play before? Looked like an interception

  8. Leone510 says: Sep 13, 2009 4:13 PM

LOL. I though this was gonna be the Bengals “break out year”, just like the past 5 seasons. 0-16

  9. xqr4 says: Sep 13, 2009 4:15 PM

Another creative way the Bengals grasp defeat from the jaws of victory!

A “Well Deserved” loss for the Bungholes !!

  11. Omnipotent_1 says: Sep 13, 2009 4:19 PM

What a cesspool of an orgnization…. The bungles don’t deserve to be in the NFL.

    Same old Bungles

Why is Bob Bratkowski still in Cincinnati? That was some of the worst offensive play calling I’ve ever seen. Except for that last drive, the offensive calling was terrible today. Mike Brown, please get Bratkowski from under your desk and fire his punk ass. He’s terrible.

    Cincy never catches a break.

It couldn’t happen to a better team. I wonder what ocho stinko has to say now. I hope they don’t win a single game.

I can’t believe they didn’t review Jonathan Joseph’s interception on the play before

    We’ll take the W. Thanks.

Did anyone besides notice two bengal d-backs go after the receiver to make hi-lite reel hits and leaving stokely alone, undisciplined punks

  21. blester01 says: Sep 13, 2009 6:19 PM

Fire Bratkowski for god sakes. His horrible play calling led to the final score. They should have had at least 17 pts on the board vs only 7. Bengals had zero big plays, Broncos had one. Bengals have momentum, move the ball the entire first half while controlling the clock, but yet no play action passes mixed in with all those run plays. I guess he was saving the game changers for the second half???
Second half starts, and they PA pass to… drum roll please… the FB. THE FB!!! WTF. Where was the deep ball to Henry or Ocho? The def plays its nuts off, and puts the offense in great positions with momentum, Bratkowski calls conservative plays and blows it. Marvin and Mikey, show us you mean business and fire Bratkowski finally- it is way overdue.

Kyle Orton saves the Broncos with an 87 TD to end game.
OH YEAH, Bronco defense shut down Bengals, 3 sacks and 2 ints, plus Chad Johnson.

  23. FumbleNuts says: Sep 13, 2009 6:28 PM

They REALLY need to get Chris Henry INVOLVED in more plays.
The guy is a touchdown machine!

  24. FireJerryJones says: Sep 13, 2009 6:29 PM

Bengals can’t get out of their won way.
    #85 is a joke.
Broncos should be worried about #15. Was he trying out there? Actually looked like he dropped balls on purpose.
I wouldn’t be happy with this guy on my team.

  25. JJMeeker says: Sep 13, 2009 7:41 PM

You know why Cincy never catches a break? They don’t deserve one. This is an organization without leadership and direction. They are completely rudderless and will continue along the same course as long as the Brown family is in charge. So Bengal fans, it’s time to surrender. Give up. You have no chance for a winning season. Until Bob Castellini buys the team , don’t waste your money.

Just got in from perusing the comments from Kool-Aid Central (The Denver Post).
My fellow Broncos fans are sky-high over McDips**t’s debut, proving once again the overall savviness of the team’s fanbase left town when the two Lombardi trophies arrived.
Any other team would have ripped us early and often. McDips**t’s offense made the Griese-led Broncos of a few short years ago seem absolutely explosive. Orton is just plain awful, and the play-calling is going to get the WR corps decimated by year’s end. When you can only drag your wideouts across the linebackers because your QB can’t throw downfield, one of them is going to get buried.
Hard to gauge the defense, because this was Cincy, but they looked improved.
A win is a win, but anyone who thinks this was anything other than sheer luck is mad.

I watched Hard Knocks this season and have grown a liking to Marvin Lewis. I hope the guy caches a break at some point, but I’m beginning to think that maybe his break will be him getting fired. He can then go to a less dysfunctional team.

Okay, am I the ONLY person who saw this? During the incredible Stokley play, one of the camera angles showed the broncos sidelines. You could see everyone running in the direction of the endzone. Anyway, one of the broncos players, who had been on the sidelines, ran onto the field. It was VERY VERY clear. I was aghast when no one called it. What further amazed me was that no comments were made by any of the announcers or post game analysist, or anybody for that matter. It was clear that a bronco player ran onto the field during the play. Would have cost them the touchdown and perhaps the game. DID ANYONE ELSE SEE IT???

  29. gavinmac says: Sep 17, 2009 10:36 AM

I did not see the Broncos on the field, but I wanted to comment on the supposed “heads up” play of Stokley running along the goal line and killing five seconds.
At first, I agreed it was a smart play. But the more I think about it, it wasn’t.
In that situation, when you have a chance to score the touchdown, you should do it immediately. The longer you prolong the play, the better the chance that one of your idiot teammates is going to commit a penalty (hold, block in back, personal foul) that negates the play. If you score and your idiot teammate commits a personal foul, it’s a dead ball, post-score penalty. If you’re still running on the goal line, and someon commits any penalty (that the refs have the guts to call) the play will be reversed.
Running along the goal line when all of your teammates (who can’t see that far down the field) expect that you’ve already gone into the end zone creates the specific likelihood that one of them (or the whole bench) will think the play is over and start running onto the field, celbrating, possibly taking off helmets, etc. Recall the Dwayne Rudd play from seven years ago when he took his helmet off thinking the game was over on a near sack of Trent Green. The play continued, Rudd got a fifteen yard penalty, Chiefs kick a field goal, Browns lose.
Is saving 5 seconds of time running along the goal line worth the risk of losing the certain touchdown if something bad happens during that five seconds? No, it is not. Get in the end zone.
