Panthers put McCown on IR, might chase Feeley

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Panthers quarterback Josh McCown is expected to miss a month of action due to a sprained foot.  So in lieu of holding a roster spot for McCown as he heals, the Panthers have opted to place him on injured reserve.

The move means that McCown's 2009 season has ended, after only one game.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Panthers have an interest in free-agent quarterback A.J. Feeley, presumably as a replacement for McCown -- and possibly as a replacement for Jake Turnover.  (We're now using the translated version of his surname.)

The other quarterback on the Carolina roster is Matt Moore.

For McCown, his Carolina career likely has ended, given that he is signed only through 2009.  Then again, there's a chance that he'll work out an injury settlement and return to the team later in the year.  If the Panthers and McCown reach an injury settlement, however, he'd be free to sign with any other team.

Probably a mistake for them to sign Feeley. He's good in a West Coast offense, but otherwise, he's been pretty mediocre. Go back to his Miami time and you'll see what I mean.

I would really like to see Matt Moore get reps with the first team in practice and then get to play.
Jakes arm strength isn't there. But until the line starts calling the right blocks, it won't matter who is back there.

With two Jake Turnovers (Carolina, Chicago) this could get confusing.

Josh, work out that settlement and sign just about anywhere else. This is a team going nowhere this year. Save yourself while you can.

AJ isn't a bad idea although i would like to see them bring in Brohm as well... same play and build as McCown but with a stronger arm... Panthers just need a system QB that can get and give the ball quick while managing the game... Brohm was a good system QB in college, could be a good fit
