In late July, Peter King of SI.com pointed out that the league was retreating to the drawing board in its effort to find a suitable replacement for V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira.
Today, King reports that the process will re-commence this week.
It will remain a daunting challenge to find a suitable replacement for Pereira, whose personality combines the appropriate obsession for detail with the ability to converse about those details without coming off as a pointy-head geek.
He also is willing (usually) to tackle the tough issues. (We can’t wait to see what he has to say about the illegal contact call against Packers cornerback Al Harris in the fourth quarter of the Sunday night game.)
So it won’t be easy to find a suitable replacement. Which likely explains why the NFL has wadded the piece of paper into a chunky semi-ball and lobbed it over the shoulder in the general vicinty of the trash can.
Florio, how’s the hair looking today?
Ed Hochuli is waiting by his phone.
That call against Al Harris was beyond bad, and I’m certainly not a packers fan.
Tom Donaghy.
