Chiefs chop Turk McBride

In a move that is surprising on the surface but really not that big of a shock given the change in defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4, Chiefs defensive lineman Turk McBride has been visited by his namesake in Kansas City.

Per a league source, the Chiefs are waiving McBride.  He’s the guy who gets the short straw after the arrival of receiver Bobby Wade.

McBride was a second-round draft pick in 2007, and he has only ten career starts.  He did not play in the Chiefs’ 2009 regular-season opener.

Since McBride isn’t a vested veteran, he’ll be subject to waivers.

And so he’ll be claimed by the Lions.

This time, we aren’t kidding.  Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham served in that same capacity in K.C. when McBride was drafted, making McBride an obvious candidate for Honolulu Blue.

And, actually, the move to Motown would put McBride on a team that has actually won more games than the Chiefs since he entered the league in 2007.

UPDATE:  The team has also announced the move.

Makes sense – the only team worse than the Chiefs is the Lions. So, he’s got one shot left……

Phew! I’m glad they cut Turk. I was really worried that this was the end of the Terrance Copper era in KC.

Mr. Florio, do NOT stop using the word “chop” in your headlines. I love logging on to see that the Chiefs Chop “X-Player”. Don’t let these blowhards deter you from doing your job. For all of you out there that don’t like it, get a new website.
