For three years running, Chiefs fans have hoped to see Larry Johnson turn back the clock to his brief, brilliant 2005-2006 greatness.
And each year, Johnson fails to regain his form. His 2009 season got off to a rough start against the Ravens, when he gained only 20 yards on 11 carries. The Chiefs lost yardage on 31% of their running plays, which is embarrassing no matter how strong the opponent is.
Chiefs coach Todd Haley pointed out one thing his running backs did well this week: "They didn't fumble the football." Haley said.
But for the Chiefs to win on Sunday against a much-improved Oakland team, they will have to improve their run-blocking dramatically. And that will be tough to accomplish unless Willie Roaf, Will Shields, and an earlier career version of Brian Waters show up for the game.
The Chiefs are favored in Vegas because they are home, but this is a game the Raiders should win if they are truly better. It's a statement game for both teams to show where their "programs" are, and the Raiders seem further along.
Games like this are what sets the NFL apart: it's a battle of recent also-rans, but it's got enough history, plot lines, and intrigue to make it must-see television.

LJ is completely heartless....he really should do what we all know he wants to....QUIT!!!!
oh yeah they pay him MILLIONS to barely show up.....total JOKE!!!!
Maybe the CHEFS took TARP $$$ to pay for:
Larry 'I don't care either way' Johson &
Matt 'U must be dumb to pay me that' Cassel
Mates Load up for a Max play...bookie KILLER
RAIDERS BIG!!!!!
DV has spoken!
He might as well be searchin' for Mr Mojo Risin', cuz he ain't going to find it. It's gone.
larry sucks, the line was better then. He should be a never-was instead of a has-been.
The key to Larry's greatness in 2005-6: The best offensive line in the history of football.
T Willie Roaf
G Will Shields
C Casey Wiegman
G Brian Waters
T John Tait
how many pro bowls is that? seriously about 30
since the retirement of willie roaf, the line has been in steady decline.
This game is definitely a huge game for both teams though, youre right.
Or both teams could well return to last year's form and it will be "must NOT see TV".
How about his 'Mojo' was actually two All-Pro Pro Bowlers that made him look so good retired the same year he sat out and demanded to get payed as if he did it all by himself. The reality is he was an average back running behind a great offensive line. That's why he caves on his other demands/trades/tempertantrums...He may have finally realized that. He's happy to be paid well for subpar performances.
If Cassell plays it'll be close one. If not, Raiders by 10. Oak and Tom Cable are too motivated to get off the Loser Horse.
Dr. Evil stole his mojo.
Maybe he needs to take the diapers off?
Lj is el gay
Hello!! their O-line is held together with Duct tape and Bubble Gum(the grape kind that looses its flavor after five chews).
Calling the Chiefs a recent "also ran" is a bit flattering given the Lions have more wins since 2007 and the Chiefs haven't won a playoff game since 1993.
