The Washington Redskins listed cornerback Fred Smoot as probable on the Friday injury report.
In a relatively unusual but not unprecedented move, the 'Skins have downgraded Smoot to questionable on Saturday in advance of Sunday's home opener against the Rams.
Smoot has a rib injury. He was not listed on the Wednesday or Thursday report, appearing for the first time on Friday, listed as being a limited participant in practice. Apparently, he suffered the injury at the tail end of practice on Thursday or during practice on Friday.
Our best guess is that the injury occurred on Friday, and that the initial impression was that he'd be able to play, given that "probable" technically means there's a virtual certainty the player will be available for normal duty.
If he doesn't play, the Redskins will be expected to explain the reason for the downgrade to the league office.

Love. Exciting and new. Come aboard. We're expecting youuuuuuuuuuu.............
Refs cheat for patriots? Looks like 3rd and 1 to me, why is it all of sudden 1st down? Why have you said nothing about this Florio? Dont you cover things objectively?

Facts are facts:
1. Welker was obviously way short of the first down.
2. The ref picks up the ball and after his slight of hand wipe down places it even further forward than the already too generous spot.
3. The chains weren't brought out - that should have been a no-brainer in the situation.
4. The ref somehow "forgets" that he's supposed to hand signal first down. Yeah right... the Bills don't even know whats going on and within a couple seconds, the ball is snapped.
5. The media hasn't touched on this obviously scandelous play since.
If this football thing doesn't work out, he still has his backup career with Carnival Cruise Lines. Smart people always have a plan.
Ryan35,
All (or close to all) of that's true, and I hate the Pats almost as much as anyone can, (although they haven't done shit for 5 years, unless you count eighteen and ONE) but they refs aren't cheating for them, they just make really bad calls and bad decisions sometimes...
