If Woody Johnson decides to sell the Jets in the near future, we have a suggested buyer.
Vince McMahon.
The Week Two game between the Patriots and the Jets continues to assume a Sunday Afternoon Raw feel. And the latest guy to start talking is, to little surprise, linebacker Bart Scott.
Regarding the potential venom that safety Kerry Rhodes has invited via his comments regarding the team’s plan to try to “embarrass” the Patriots, Scott offered up this gem to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols: “If Kerry needs someone to back him up, I’ll be right there to throw the first punch.”
Why do we have a feeling that last week’s staggering fine total could be surpassed on Sunday — in this game alone?
So much violence at PFT this morning. Florio may want to take a couple bong hits before going any further today.
Awful lot of taunt-the-Pats-fans posts in the last few days. The thing about this “feud” is that we have nervous Jets members on one side and… a member of the media who used to be a Patriot on the other. Not much there, but I guess Florio sees an opportunity to boost his traffic numbers for his new corporate masters. But too much of this and some of us will stop reading at all. It’s a fine balance.
As a Ravens fan, I love the Madbacker and his intensity…but keep in mind, his intensity single handedly cost the Ravens the Patriot game back in their undefeated season….this is a double edge sword..
While I think the game will be very close. The Pats will win in the end. The best team usually does..
by “toss a punch” does he mean toss a penalty flag into the stands against the Patriots setting them up with great field position to win the game?
LEEEETTTTTTT’SSSS Get Ready to BUNGLLLLLLEEEEEE!
Jets Still Suck.
These Jets players don’t know how stupid they sound. Once the game starts we will see their all talk. They will not beat the Patriots.
Both teams are equally annoying, Jets because they have the worst fans in sports and the Patriots because they can’t get their heads out of their asses. But I CAN’T wait for this game, I hope they beat each other into oblivion.
great headline
Raven, I was thinking the exact same thing.
The Jets might not have the losing streak but they are still the Detroit Lions when it comes to big games.
By the way Vince already dabbled in Football and it was a huge A$$ FAIL.
When Bart Scott was with the ravens i thought of him as the kid in high school who wasnt tough but he liked to talk a lot of crap cause he hung out with kids who were tough. Then he goes to college, joins a fraternity of nerds where he actually becomes top dog, yet does not realize his new crew aint so tough until he gets punched in the face.
The Jets will probably beat themselves with dumb penalties.
I love it- Rex Ryan has singlehandedly managed to fire these guys up, but I wonder if all the smack talk has the Jets distracted… Reminds me of Buddy Ryan’s first 2 or 3 years in Philadelphia back in 87/88.
BTW, Buddy Ryan remains the alltime most entertaining head coach in NFL history; his ability to consistently embarass Tom Landry, kick him while he was down, then help to usher him out the door to retirement will long be cherished by the NFC East teams forever, particularly Eagles fans. Can Rex Ryan do the same to Bellichek? Most likely the answer is no, but it will be fun to watch the Jets try!
This game isn’t about the trash talk.
The Jets are talking trash because the X’s and O’s favor them here. Jets SHOULD win this.
1) Patriots run defense should be terrible w/o Mayo and with Seymour in Oakland.
2) Rex Ryan’s schemes confuse most QBs including brady. Look back to the Ravens / Pats game 2 years ago where Kyle Boller almost out-duelled Brady
3) Jets always have had the pieces on offense, just not the QB. Sanchez is their guy. Good mechanics, can make the acurate check downs OR the big play down the field throws.
If the Jets can hold the Pats to 20 or less, they win this game. And I think they will.
This is coming from a Ravens fan, so some bias to Rex Ryan, but also just recognizing that Brady’s knee isn’t fully right, and their pass protection is what it was when they were stealing signals (spygate)
Comical….just comical. Bart…PLEASE throw a punch…..I’m begging you. 15 yards and an ejection later…the results will still be the same……..
You will have cost your team dearly again…….
In the immortal words of Wayne Brady………….
“is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?”
LOL
If the Jets lay an egg today they’ll be a bigger joke than Crabtree. Game two of the season and it’s their Super Bowl. Yeah whatever…
@underwriter
It really is a double-edged sword, when things are going your way it sure is fun to play with emotion. But remember that game against the Lions 2 years ago where I think we set a record for penalties? Emotion and intensity worked for the Ravens because they were a good team. I see this blowing up in Rex Ryan and the Jets’ faces BIG TIME once they start losing.
The Patriots have averaged 25 points against Rex Ryan defenses…..oooooooh…..the Patriots must be soiling themselves about now.
The jets were always missing the qb?
The same qb they had for years won the divison last year with another team.
Jets always have their biggest games pre january and no matter how much smack they talk there is 40 years of history to prove it.
When mangini was hired all we heard was is that he will toughen them up that herm was to much of a players coach, when that fails it is now rex is great cause hes a players coach.
Still, you gotta wonder, with all the trash talk going back and forth (most notably the Jets players and the Pats fans), just how embarrassing will it be if the Jets actually pull this off?
IOW, it seems as though the pressure is actually on NE here, to not BE embarrassed.
This is comical to watch these so-called “professionals” literally pissing themselves in an attempt to out-bravado each other.
These guys are sounding more and more ridiculous, and the laughable part is that you’re not hearing a peep from the Patriots (Rodney Harrison is retired folks).
Reminds one of the adage “act like you’ve done this before”. New England is a poised, experienced team. They know that Week 2 is NOT “their Super Bowl”, it’s simply the second step in a long, long, journey to February.
Seriously though, does anyone REALLY think a one game rookie – playing with the New York (losers) Jets – is going to out-duel Tom freaking Brady……… REALLY?
The league seriously ought to look into who is putting what into the Jets drinking water.
Regardless of the outcome, I was just explaining to my sons the 3 most important things in life-
Do not cheat
Do not steal
Do not lie
Bil Belichick cannot look his jailbird son in the eye and say those things as he 1) is a proven cheater 2) stole $1,000,000 from Leon Hess after the 1998 as he received a bonus that he would be Head Coach within 2-3 years – he resigned after 1 day
3) He lied to the commissioner that trying to dispute the fact that he is a cheater.
All that I can add to this idiotic line of reasoning is that if any one of the Jets players intentionally injures Brady’s knee in an attempt to win a football game, I would hope that said player is beat to a pulp by the Patriots offensive linemen, regardless of any penalties that may be incurred.
All of this talk about intentionally going after someone’s ability to stand upright in the name of winning a football game just goes to show the despicable nature of this weeks opposition and their fans.
Trash talk is: “I’m gonna hit up your mamma after the game” or “you throw like my little sister”, not “I’m going to try to re-tear the ligaments in your surgically repaired knee”. If the threat is followed through on, that would actually lead to an arrest in the real world, because it isn’t civil. It isn’t decent. It isn’t sportsmanlike. It is just a statement on the depraved mentallity of a football team and it’s fans.
And regardless of all of the talk and hype the Jets are putting out about this week’s game, the winner at the end of the day will be one thing and one thing only: 2-0. That’s it. Not the AFC East Champ. Not the Super Bowl winner. 2-0. Not much to hang your hat on.
120 – 92
That’s the New York Jets regular season record since Parcells took over in 1997
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/
They also have 3 playoff wins in that time. Might have had four if Doug Brien didn’t miss the FG at Heinz Field that would’ve sent the Jets to the AFC Championship game.
120 – 92 since ’97.
When I read this site and read fans of different teams (Florio included) and their misconceptions about The New York Jets, I laugh.
The Jets are 28 games over .500 since ’97. While that certainly isn’t anywhere near as impressive as the Colts, Patriots or Steelers records of that time, the fact remains the Jets have an above .500 record in the past twelve years… and just think… we did it with Herm Edwards and Eric Mangini coaching for 8 of those seasons… imagine if we had a good coach in that time.
@ julyeast
Your sons would be better off if they were orphans. You are one of the hunderds of classless Jets fans who had absolutely no problem when Parcells ditched the Patriots, but then cry foul when Belichick does it. The real problem for you here is that Belichick KNEW that franchise you cheer for is a joke and got the hell out of Dodge at the first chance.
Your precious Jets were just fined for “cheating” as well, dummy. Do you point to Mike Tannenbaum and tell your sons “Look at this liar and cheat”?
Also, calling Belichick’s son “jailbird”? You are a pretty tough guy from behind your computer. Is that something else you’re teaching your sons? “It’s ok to talk shit from a keyboard, because you cannot be held accountable!” I can’t wait till 4pm, when you Long Island pieces of crap are shut the hell up until next year.
Say what you want but it’s clear that Ryan is building a team that is going to live and die by the sword. It’s an all out there attitude with nothing hidden and no apologies being made. You gotta admire the moxie. If you’re a football player you know that it’s not an organization where accountability is shuffled.
Now the safety is saying they are coming after Tom Brady, and it is okay if he gets fined for it. He went on to say he didn’t mean anything dirty, as if covering. I mean, if he didn’t mean dirty, then why does he expect to be fined for going after the QB?
The Jets are a dirty, cheating team.
blackglass – I live in San Diego. When your city can win a legitimate baseball or football title – which you have not since 1918 (that year familiar to you?) then, and only then should you be allowed to write. Belicheat is like Bonds – cheated when he did not have to and now your 3*** titles, won by a measely FG (which would have been losses without illegal info) are forever tainted.
I understand the JETS were fined for not listing a player on the injury report – that player played every snap of every game – that is cheating?
Please crawl back into your communist/socialist rathole of a state – I guess what Belicheat has done does not bother anybody in the Soviet State of yours that elected a murderer to the Senate for Senate for 40 years.
@julyeast says:
You forgot that TB fathered a bastard child.
Are you sure those “sons” are yours? They could be Tom Brady’s you know. He can sniff out an egg-drop at 40 yards.
blackglass – from the Kennedys to the Belicheats…..you guys sure do love them
And just like every good Socialist, you attack the messenger instead of the message
@julyeast:
One of the greatest lines in NFL history: “I resign as HC of NYJ”
Funny how Jets fans only started thinking of BB as the bad guy after that line. Then again, if he slapped my pathetic franchise in the face and basically let the world know what a joke the franchise was I’d be upset too.
Especially since he took over as HC of NEP he’s racked up 5 AFC championship appearance, 4 sb appearances and 3 sb wins since that time.
How many times have the Jets won a playoff game since then?
blackglass – your fellow Socialists have not posted any of my replies
