Donte Whitner gets robbed

After Buffalo’s Week One loss to the Patriots, Bills safety Donte Whitner was crying.

He likely was crying against after the Week Two win over the Bucs for very different reasons.

On the same day that Whitner robbed Tampa quarterback Byron Leftwich of an interception that was returned for a touchdown, someone robbed Whitner of $400,000 worth of jewelry.

Per the Associated Press, someone broke into Whitner’s home during Sunday’s game.

Whitner says he’s not interested in pressing charges, and that he simply wants his stuff back.  And, so, when Stefan Djorjevic and his pals admit to taking the bling, Whitner likely will pull a McKelvin and petition for them to be put in the slammer.

To summarize, the Bills through two weeks have one win, one loss, and two criminal complaints filed not against their players, but by them.

    someone should tell mr. whitner of a little service called “bank safe deposit box”
    also, no man should have $400,000 worth of jewelry. it ain’t right.

    If you’re dumb enough to have $400,000 worth of jewelry laying around, you damn near deserve the robbing. I hope this doesn’t detract from my previous staunch law and order record.

  5. Truthbluth says: Sep 21, 2009 1:12 PM

    Seriously Florio? McKelvin never petitioned to have charges filed. That was an erroneous report, and the news came out today that the boys will not be prosecuted. Get your facts straight you hack!

    400K in jewelry.
    Another guy who’ll be broke 5 years after his career ends.

  11. Burritto says: Sep 21, 2009 1:16 PM

    Doesn’t “robbing someone of an interception that was returned for a touchdown” mean that it was prevented from happening?

  12. bboozehound says: Sep 21, 2009 1:18 PM

    The weird part of the story is that McKelvin and Whitner live together in the same house.

    What kind of idiot, man or woman, has $400,000 worth of jewelry? Imelda Marcos?
    The thought that anyone would waste that much money on shiny little rocks is disgusting.
    Nothing personal, Donte, but I’ve no sympathy at all for you. I hope it wasn’t insured. I hope you never see any of it again.

    It’s always a good idea to have 20% of your annual salary tied up in juh-ray.

  19. fellasheowed says: Sep 21, 2009 1:26 PM

    florio has demoted the estimated value of whitner’s jewelry to 25-50 k using highly scientific methods they only teach you about in law school, or cash for gold ads.

  20. Stone says: Sep 21, 2009 1:30 PM

    He probably had the jewelry in one of those home safes with a carrying handle. What kind of a man has 400K worth of jewelry? No wonder 80% of these idiots are bankrupt after their careers end. I just don’t get it. Does he think its cool to walk around the rich suburbs wearing bling, or does he go back to the ghetto to show off his ice on the streets? Either way, these guys are idiots and they will never learn.

    Poor bastard.

  23. JoeSchmoe says: Sep 21, 2009 1:34 PM

    Note to Whitner, still never trust that little thug lookin kid who shows up at your door from time to time claiming to sell ADT. They’re actually just casing the joint.
    Maybe you need Vince’s home security gang from Entourage there Donte. Is your underwear all there?

  27. Bubba Maximus says: Sep 21, 2009 1:37 PM

    Why in God’s name would a male in any profession want to possess $400,000 worth of jewelry?
    I wonder what percentage of Whitner’s income $400,000 represents.
    At any rate, as a couple of previous posters noted, Whitner will be bankrupt within five years of leaving the NFL.

    Well, considering that the value of jewelry tends to hold, if not increase, over time, it’s not that dumb. It’s a highly liquid asset.

  30. Great Smoky says: Sep 21, 2009 1:46 PM

    Sounds like some folks in Buffalo don’t give a damn if the team bolts to Canada.

  31. PFTiswhatitis says: Sep 21, 2009 1:46 PM

  32. stanjam says: Sep 21, 2009 1:48 PM

    It’s called a safe, except that safes cost money, and you wouldn’t have as much to buy bling.
    Someone suggested he buy a gun? How would that have helped? Then he would be out Jewelry AND a gun!
    Better to buy less jewelry and hire someone to watch your house!

  33. YrkGian2079 says: Sep 21, 2009 1:48 PM

    You would think that these guys would live in areas with security guards or a security system with the amount of money they make. These guys houses are sitting ducks. The whole world knows when they are not home.

    Could it be insurance fraud? $400,000 in jewelry and you don’t spend $10,000 on an alarm system???

  36. Darth_Bonham says: Sep 21, 2009 2:19 PM

    Wow, there are so many haters on PFT.
    What a man does with his money is his own personal choice. It is unfortunate that people hold people to different standards based upon how much money they make.
    A crime is a crime, what if someone broke into your house and stole the equivalent of 20% of your annual salary? Would you be affended if people boo hoo’d you the same way.
    PFT writers, you need to watch the typos, I would expect them from the commentors, but from a media website, I definately hold you to a higher standard. (cite against, in the second sentence in your post above, should be again)

  37. HappyBunny says: Sep 21, 2009 2:40 PM

    Yeah, um, I don’t think that’s gonna work two weeks in a row…

    “Would you be affended….”
    “PFT writers, you need to watch the typos, I would expect them from the commentors….”
    Your post should be free of typos (wait, a is nowhere near o on the keyboard, neither is e), make that spelling errors if you’re going to comment on their writing.

  40. Stone says: Sep 21, 2009 3:28 PM

    @Darth_Bonham
    I don’t know if I’m poor or what, but there’s no way someone can rob me of 20% of my annual salary by breaking into my house. Sorry man, I don’t spend that much money on TVs, jewelry, or whatever other garbage these athletes blow their money on. That 20% of my salary is in something called a “401K” and my “savings account.” Probably pretty foreign terms to NFL guys with 400K in jewelry in their homes.
    @Kidekk
    Yeah, no. Jewelry is not a good investment, especially considering I’m sure Whitmer bought his bling from some retailer in NYC, most likely at a massive markup. I doubt a guy that has 400K in jewelry lying around his house has the sense to buy his bling wholesale or a diamond dealer overseas. Doubt it. I bet the insurable worth of his bling was probably 200K, at best.

  41. Bob Nelson says: Sep 21, 2009 4:43 PM

    No self respecting American male should ever have $400K in “jewelery”.
    Dudes wear rings only when forced to wear them.
    Some guys feel the need to wear a watch but with electronic gadgets there are clocks everywhere watches are unnecessary.
    Tie clip, money clip, and cufflinks can’t add up to that much.
    Anything else is beyond the scope of straight guys.

  42. Kidekk says: Sep 21, 2009 5:24 PM

    @Bob Nelson,
    I actually agree with you, for once. Then again, I also think that no self respecting man should wear Ed Hardy/Affliction shirts, or shirts along that ilk, but what do I know. You’ll, also, never catch me wearing the jersey of another man.
    @Stone,
    I never said it was a good investment, just a highly liquid one that tends to hold up in value over time. Hence, not that dumb. Unreasonable to us folk who wouldn’t think of doing such a thing, yes, but maybe he likes jewelry just like some people like cars. And I’m sure it was just “lying around.” The only details we have so far is that he was robbed of jewelry, nothing else. Anything else is speculation.
