Jack Del Rio plays dumb on Williamson injury

On Monday, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio claimed that he isn't aware receiver Troy Williamson will miss the rest of the season due to an injury suffered on Sunday.

We've heard otherwise.  So has Michael C. Wright of the Florida Times-Union.

And Williamson's agent, David Canter, publicly has said otherwise, Twitter style:  "nothing worse than a client going on injured reserve and needing surgery -- ruins the day, the week, the month, the season."

Our guess?  Del Rio knows damn well Williamson is done for the year.  But with Nate Hughes getting cut after doing his best impression of Williamson (twice) on Sunday, the Jags are now down two wideouts.  So they have to be coy if they hope to get Matt Jones or Reggie Williams or Jerry Porter to accept a minimum-salary offer to return.

Maybe they should just use extra tight ends instead.

Gee, how can you replace a talent like Williamson? Maybe they can hire Marvin Harrison for matching speed but make him play with his hands tied behind his back so he will equal Troy's unique pass catching ability.

In case it is not obvious, the Jaguars are not going to win the Super Bowl this year.

The obvious line is he's not playing dumb, he is dumb. But seriously, he's not playing dumb......

Wow Florio, I guess the fact that they have fellow rookies Jarrett Dillard and Mike Thomas on the roster also, wouldn't actually equal FOUR WRs...(5 if you count in Ernest Wilford). Gene Smith is not brining back any of those guys!!! That's the whole reason they let them go...and NO ONE ELSE has signed them. Or maybe, just maybe, Del Rio hadn't been briefed by the doctors prior to the interview....

Its the Jags who really cares other then the folks in LA

Why is the agent upset? Did he not already get paid? Agents are like lawyers. They pretend to care if there is money involved.

Why can't he just play with the cast on? I'm sure it couldn't make him any worse......

Week Three will start Holt and Walker. Thomas and Dillard behind them and the Jags will go with four wide outs.

Wilford is now the #2 TE if they don't sign anyone this week.
Look for a lot of two TE sets, but don't expect them to run in that formation. I'm sure the Texans will figure that out as well.

No way Gene brings back any of Shack's picks.

The fact that they picked up two DB's today says that Reggie could get dangled. Maybe Reggie for Roscoe, but what would the Bills do with him. No one wants to steal his stuff.

    In Gene We Trust

I'd rather put 10 men on the field before signing any of those knuckleheads...

I dont know why Dillard and Thomas havent played yet anyway. I am really beginning to believe that Jack Azz is throwing games away. The play calling is terrible. Garrard has not went deep one time this season. Now injuries are beginning to happen. Now, that Jack Azz has hired and fired coaches...now he is firing players for dropped balls! This guy needs to go maybe along with Gene Smith for not signing Mike Vick.

Did Florio let a "need a WR" post go by without mentioning Matt Jones? Say it ain't so!

  16. Ralph says: September 22, 2009 9:25 AM

Why would anyone sign with the Jags at this point? With every game being blacked out, who will notice anyway?

Maybe they could make NFL history by being the first team to change cities mid season? Would anyone in Jacksonville even notice if they did?

    FWIW regarding Nate Hughes:

Vic Ketchman stated on his radio show last night that the Jaguars will, in all likelihood, sign Hughes to the practice squad as soon as he clears waivers.

Ketchman said he didn't believe the team wanted to give up on Hughes and essentially "demoted" him, provided they can resign him today.

The guy's got some skills, but I think asking him to make those plays, as a rookie, under that kind of late-game pressure, might have been a bit too much. I'm not defending the drops; rookies have to know how to play as well.

I would much rather have seen Garrard trying to get the ball to Holt, a more experienced receiver in those situations.

But, then, I'm not calling the plays.
