Pat White is the primary backup again

Though Chad Henne is regarded as the quarterback of the future in Miami, he continues to be buried at the bottom of the depth chart.

The reason is simple.  Pat White, the team’s new Wildcat option, needs to be the No. 2 quarterback in order to enter and exit the game freely before the fourth quarter.

If the emergency quarterback enters the game before the final 15 minutes of regulation, the first two quarterbacks can’t return.  In the fourth quarter, the No. 3 quarterback is permitted to enter and exit the game.

Joining Henne on the Dolphins inactive list are tight end John Nalbone, defensive end Lionel Dotson, guard Shawn Murphy, receiver Patrick Turner, defensive end Cameron Wake,
tackle Andrew Gardner, and safety Chris Clemons.

    Cam Wake’s a linebacker.

    Stupid rule.
They should make the 3rd QB mandatory and without the restrictions.
Even if they have to allow a 46th man to dress for games and a 54th man on the squads.
The last thing I ever want to see when I go to an NFL game is to see a kicker or punter or other non-QB playing QB, if the first 2 QBs get hurt and the team had decided to carry only 2 QBs on the active roster.
Allowing a 3rd QB per team (and making it mandatory they carry a 3rd) would solve that. I realize most 3rd stringers generally aren’t very good QBs, but most are better than some emergency QB that is usually a punter or kicker…

Why can’t the Dolphin’s list Pat White as a wide receiver, running back or wildcat specialist? Teams that only carry two quarterbacks always have a wideout or back listed as their third qb. It seems like their insistence to call him a quarterback is actually a competitive disadvantage.

I want to see the game just to see them use the Wildcat. I hope they run the Wildcat a lot.

    Pat “Slappy” White
    You remember him, right Florio?

Pat White has been dazzling the crowd in Miami…. from the bench.

Dolphins could just not designate an emergancy QB and dress one less player in pads so they have a 53 man roster with no “extra QB”. Now you could have Henne and White to play any time you want.
Eagles could do the same thing next week with Kolb, Vick, and Garcia. Problem solved.

    Steeler-hater:
You DON’T have to see a punter or kicker as the “Emergency” QB when the first two go down, because that’s exactly what the third QB is. When the first two get injured, a team doesn’t have any choice but to go to the third so the fact that the first two can’t re-enter the game doesn’t really matter at that point.
    delaranta:
Actually, it would be a competitive disadvantage for the Dolphins NOT to call him a QB, since that means one less position player in pads for the roster. In all likelihood, the Phins won’t need Chad Henne. And if they do need him, then they just don’t use Pat White for the rest of the game, no huge deal. Yeah, there’s a problem if Henne AND Pennington get hurt, but at that point, they’re kinda screwed anyway…you’ll be looking at Ronnie and the Wildcat for the rest of the game.

Interesting observation made by cnelson13 re: Cameron Wake being a linebacker.
Cameron was an outside linebacker in the 3-4 but now is listed as a Defensive End.
The Dolphin appear to have made an in season position adjustment. Now, if they could only get him onto the field.

dolphins lose, imagine that, sparano settles for a FG, thinking #18 isn’t gonna march down the field to get a game winning TD, how stupid are you. this is 1 reason why there is such a gap between great teams, & the rest of the league.

  15. Steelers58 says: Sep 22, 2009 12:51 AM

Why all the Pat White hate? The guy was an unbelievable college QB and is one of the fastest players in the league. I can understand Phins fans being pissed because their team sucks, but cut this kid some slack.

What on earth is the point of this rule? Anybody have a clue?

  17. Beer Cheese Soup says: Sep 22, 2009 2:36 AM

Give it up Florio.. No one cares about this kid but you and about 12 Miami fans, and that number is dropping every game he plays…

That 49 yard field goal attempt kicking off the infield dirt was terrible. History has shown that we just don’t make those. It was like 3rd and 2. They should have gone for it on that.
Also, that offsides penalty right before the half, terrible. Those 5 yards would have pushed that field goal attempt to over 50 yards which there is a really good chance that their kicker would miss it.
Oh well. Manning threw for 300 yards is 15 minutes. It would be scary to see what he would have done in say 25-30 minutes.

steelers58 – it’s not the phin fans that are not happy with pat white. it’s everyone else. thanks for the backhanded swipe.
