The league has not yet announced the various winners of the AFC and NFC player of the week awards.
But the Cardinals have let the cat out of the bag as to one of the six weekly prizes.
Defensive end Calais Campbell is the NFC special teams player of the week.
Typically, the prize is awarded based on making kicks or returning kicks. Campbell got his canned ham (or whatever they give out) for blocking a kick.
Specifically, Campbell blocked a field goal that would have cut Arizona’s second-quarter lead to 10-6. The ball then was recovered by teammate Antrel Rolle and returned for a touchdown.
The 10-point swing put the Cards up by 14 points, 17-3.
The news release regarding Campbell’s award also implies that quarterback Kurt Warner didn’t win the NFC offensive player of the week award. This likely means that Drew Brees of the Saints will win the canned ham for a second straight week.
