The Cowboys say that Marion Barber is "day-to-day" with a quadriceps strain.
Newy Scruggs, a radio host on the Cowboys radio station says that Barber will miss 1-2 weeks. Scruggs is also a sports anchor at NBC-5 in Dallas.
We won't know Barber's status for sure until the Cowboys play the Panthers on Monday night, but Scruggs presumably has strong ties within the organization because of his job. ESPN previously reported Barber had a 50-50 shot to play this week.
From what we've seen from the Cowboys last year, losing Barber won't be a devastating blow.
The team's offensive line has opened up huge holes in the running game, and Tashard Choice is more than capable enough to handle a bigger role.
Dallas' concerns in the secondary (and some would argue quarterback) seem more pressing than a possible short-term absence from Barber.
UPDATE: The Cowboys signed running back Chauncey Washington to their practice squad Tuesday. He could be activated if Barber doesn't play this week. The Cowboys showed previous interest in Washington when they put in a waiver claim for him two weeks ago.

Other reports have Barber at 50/50 for Monday night.
Choice is more than capable of filling in as he proved last year when Marion and Felix were out.
That's ok. The Cowboys have by far the best running game in the NFL.
184.5 yards per game
7.0 yards per rush average
21 rushing first downs
0 fumbles
6 20+ yard runs
4 rushing TDs
All tops in the NFL.
P.S. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice could be starters on any other NFCE team.
Vox, you're such a tool. You're really going to go off of two games stats?
How about this then: The Giants have two of the best receivers in the league. After two weeks, Steve Smith and Mario Manningham are 4th and 2nd respectively in the league in yards.
And yea, Choice would really start over Westbrook, Jacobs, or Portis. Right. Keep up the stupidity, I need some more material to laugh at.
Vox....you looking to get Kravon fired up with a comment like this??? haha.

You are definitely delusional.
"could be starters on any other NFCE team"
Over Jacobs, Portis, Westbrook? Umm NO!
FFL owners of Felix Jones are smiling right about now.
Hey Vox, those rushing numbers mean nothing when your defense is ranked 30th and your passing offense is ranked 14th and shows signs of declining lmao...cowboys, what a joke
So my question is, who gets the nod, fantasy wise?
(bearing in mind 20 return yds = 1 point)
Cowboys 0-1
Vox:
Half of those TDs, more than half of those yards, and a full two-thirds of those first downs belong to Barber.
Choice and Jones will do ok while he's busted up though.
Yeah, we know Vox, Chauncy Washington will be in the HOF. Chil' please! Your team lost - get over it.
"How about this then: The Giants have two of the best receivers in the league. After two weeks, Steve Smith and Mario Manningham are 4th and 2nd respectively in the league in yards."
Yeah. So?
"Over Jacobs, Portis, Westbrook? Umm NO!"
Yeah. They're all injury prone.
"Felix Jones and Tashard Choice could be starters on any other NFCE team."
Sure if Westbrook, Jacobs, and Portis got tripped by Flozell Adams.
I'm not even sure what team would want Jones as a backup as they'd have to give him first round pick money. Bradshaw was a 7th round pick, McCoy and Betts were 2nd rounders.
"lmao...cowboys, what a joke"
said the freaking 49er fan.
yussss! I have got Felix Jones in my fantasy team lol
"Half of those TDs, more than half of those yards, and a full two-thirds of those first downs belong to Barber.

So what's your point?
i bothered to engage you in an pissing match once vox, but after your delusional comment about choice and jones being better than every other runner in the nfc east, you have shown yourself as a guy who does not watch football. you may watch the cowboys, but you do not watch the rest of the nfl, and for that you have no grounds to ever be respected on here again.
Felix would 100% FOR SURE start over Brandon Jacobs.
The only thing Jacobs can run is his mouth.

HAHA. I'm sure Jones and Choice are better than Jacobs, Westbrook OR Portis. Stupid Dallas homer. BTW...you can lead the league in rushing when your QB only throws for 127 yards. Stupid.
My favorite line from Vox: "Yeah. They're all injury prone." .....exactly, since the Jones and Choice are only getting more playing time because of an injury....they couldn't hold Westbrook, Portis, or Jacobs jocks.
MNF - Panthers 28 Cowboys 21
All TD's will be interceptions returned for TD thanks to these two awful starting QB's.
Ruh-oh! I love Felix the Cat, but I am concerned he may hurt himself putting on his shoes. No doubt dude can fly when healthy but he's a little injury prone.
Choice is a great fill in back and will be counted on as we need to run to avoid Romo throwing the ball deep at inopportune times (e.g., when he should be kneeling on the ball to run out the clock).
If Jacobs, Westbrook and Portis are all injury prone...
What does that make Barber, Felix and Romo?!
I understand loving your team but no need to be a homer fan boy who's completely blind... oh wait you're a redneck... You don't know any better...
In his rookie season Bradshaw had similar number to Felix Jones last year... except he was our third back and only cost us about 1/15 as much as Jones cost you... typical Cowboy shit over pay for the glitz and glamour...
The way he dropped you'ld think that he was auditioning for the next Band of Brothers episode.
Realistically though, when you see a guy collapse like that it's usually a tear of some kind, how serious we don't really know. I do know that a partial tear of the quad fills with blood quite nicely thus slowing the healing.
Love the way you douche bags come down on a team after a loss. Where we you last week when Romo threw for over 300? Even your little boy toy Mike Florio was at a loss for words.
How come no one is talking about punts hitting the TV? Cause its not going to happen unless you try to hit it. There hasn't been a person who stepped into the stadium that hasn't had great things to say about it. It's simply the best thing going, because your sorry ass city's and cheap ass owners cant spring for a new pad for your team don't hate.
People hate success, People hate people who have more then them. Because Jerry can buy what he wants doesn't make him a failure LOL it just means he is better then you.
Vox:
My point is that you can't say that this is no big deal because they 'boys have the best rushing in the leage, then show stats to prove it, because the guy responsible for most of those stats is the guy who is now no longer in a position to improve on them. It's like saying "Drew Brees is injured? Oh, well they'll be fine, the Saints have the best passing game in the league."
I mean, it's not, but it is.
"Yeah. They're all injury prone."
Oh, so you mean they'd start if those guys were injured. Then yes, I agree.
4651 days since Dallas won a playoff game....
If ya aint first, you're last.
But wait, I thought he was a barbarian? What happened? He can't miss a week, that's not what barbarians do. I thought he was supposed to be a big guy who could play through pain while inflicting it upon others, that's what they told me he was. I mean, his nickname is the barbarian, right?
Hmmmm.
