Skins put Thomas on IR, ink Alridge

As expected the Washington Redskins have placed guard Randy Thomas on injured reserve, ending his 2009 season after only two games.

Thomas suffered a torn triceps during Sunday's win over the Rams.

To fill his roster spot, the Redskins have elevated running back Anthony Alridge from the Texans practice squad.

Alridge was acquired via waivers in February 2009, after he was cut by the Broncos.  He signed with the Texans' practice squad after being cut by the Redskins prior to the season.

And, yes, we finally made it through one of these things without making some sort of smartass observation.

Alridge was waived or released from their(Redskins) PS and was signed on by the Texans to their PS? Or did Washington resign him?

Maybe that will fulfill your prophecy, Florio.

The best way to fix an issue with offensive line depth is to have 5 active running backs.

Hilarious to see a Raiders fan talking smack about the Skins. Especially since they have never had a 2-14 season. And since their owner has all of the football incompetence of Dan Snyder with none of the revenues.

Adding Alridge to the roster does give them something they've been lacking - home run ability. Now, Alridge's hands are shaky, but he has home run speed that Portis/Betts/Mason simply don't have. Add in that, for folks complaining about 5 RB's,

    a) they usually dress 7 OL, so they'll simply elevate Rinehart to starter and keep Montgomery/Williams as backups.

    b) any lineman you can sign now ... you can probably get next week off a practice squad. Maybe there's a gem in there somewhere if someone gets hurt, but it's not that big a deal.

The question now is if they'll actually use Alridge's speed. They need to give that offense more firepower.

1984 called, they want their Super Bowl back.

So i guess now the redskins can move portis to guard now, since he is such a great blocker and give mason the starting role at RB.

Raiders? oh yeah thats that team that john madden use to coach!!!Didnt they stop playing i mean winning a long time ago?the last time the Skins went 2-14 was...... ummmm... never you darth vader wanna be. Hey morons they dont need another right guard when they got Chad Rinehart.Wow you guys are morons!!! Raiders LOL!!!!!!

There is really no question that aldridge brings speed the skins otherwise sorely lack......that being said, it's obvius that snyder/cerrato haven't a clue what the team needs- an offensive line that can be dominant. Ever since buying the team, it seems they have been attending the jerry jones school of management.
Next year, we'll see what gruden brings............

  20. homercles82 says: September 23, 2009 8:15 AM

I will never understand this team. Why am I a fan? I wish my parents had not instilled this fandom into me at an early age. I cannot let it go now.

Cerrato needs to move to Oakland--he'd be great as the other half of Al Davis' comedy team.

If someone else gets hurt, they might sign a pitcher from the Nationals farm team.

"Another 2-14 season for the Washington Redstorms"

You mean the Oakland Raiders dont you. The Redskins have NEVER been 2-14. Worst season was Ritchy Petibones season, 3-13 in 1994. And that season wasnt a total loss, we beat the Cowboys twice.

Danny: "Anthony Aldridge, he was the guard, we picked up from the Panthers."
    Vinny: "Yes Boss".
Jim: "No that was Jeremy Bridges, he's signed with Arizona"
Danny: "Did you hear something Vinny?"
Vinny: "No Boss, sometimes I think having my head so far up in here may mean I miss some things though."
Jim: "Anthony Aldridge is the little bloke all the fans went nuts over because he was fast. They were so surprised to see some like that on the team that they were completely willing to overlook the fact he can't hold on to the ball.
Danny: "Are you sure you can't hear anything Vinny?"
    Vinny: "Only you my master."

... Jim: [thinking] Damn, 5 rbs on the roster. Just as well I call runs every 1st and 2nd down..
