Zorn: "I'm not worried about my job"

Redskins coach Jim Zorn, already firmly on the hot seat after his team scored only nine points in barely beating the woeful Rams, already is facing questions about his job security.

Asked during a radio interview about whether a loss to the even more woeful Lions will affect his job standing, Zorn had this to say, per Ryan O’Halloran of the Washington Times“I won’t even answer that question.  I’m trying to get ready for Detroit.  I’m not worried about my job.”

Zorn might be the only person in D.C. who isn’t worried about his job.

And, yeah, if the ‘Skins get scalped in Detroit, Zorn might not have to worry at all.

Translation: “I know I’m fired already. I mean it is Dan Freaking Snyder!”

  2. footballrulz says: Sep 22, 2009 1:52 PM

Well, if Zorn’s NOT trying to get ready for Detroit he damn well better be worrying aobut his job.

I would think whoever loses to the Lions will be fired.

Florio — did he really say “I’m NOT trying to get ready for Detroit.”

And people wonder why “Redskins” is racist. Because its gives people the reason to use “scalped” when the word by itself refers to scalping Native Americans. You would say lets lets “lynch” the black folk?

  6. richturpin says: Sep 22, 2009 2:01 PM

Florio, are you sure Zorn played for the Lions?

  7. Darth_Bonham says: Sep 22, 2009 2:01 PM

When your team is 31st in the league in points (the Rams are 32nd) and you move the ball so well between the 20’s, but your ass puckers in the red zone and the only thing that you can do is run into a pile with a weak offensive line or try and have someone other than your quaterback (week 1, Randel El; week 2 Clinton Portis) throwing the ball in un-needed situations, he just deserves to be on the chopping block.
I predict that the lions will beat the redskins by 10 points on Sunday….Congrats Matt Stafford on your first NFL win!!!
Noboby is Horny for Zorny anymore in the DMV.

zippy chance Zorn makes game 16…..
Daniel Snyder does not have the patience to try to build a winner. This is why he does not have a winner….
Cowher or Shanahan would be a fool to work with this guy. Best coach in his 10 years was Shotty….If he had kept him, they would have had multiple playoff appearances by now..

  11. AnnoyedAtIdiots says: Sep 22, 2009 2:06 PM

Uh..Zorn never played for the Lions. He did have a two year gig as their QB coach.
But hell, most of the ‘experts’ have about the same amount of knowledge when it comes players of interest who have spent the majority of their career with the Seahawks.

  12. TheDPR says: Sep 22, 2009 2:07 PM

Zorn was a Seahawk, not a Lion.

    the lions have this one…
we have sown we can play well argents a top 5 D last week and hold the best back in the nfl atm to under 100 yards
that is the only bright spot the skins have is there d but it is nothing compared to the queens
K smith almost had a 100 and we had like 150 toatle rushing and that is saying a lot when you are playing the best run D in that last 3 years who havent let a 100 yard game since 07
CJ is a god among men anouth said
Stafford will toss a few pick but will allso get at least one td
are D stinks but so does there off so i am not wored about that at all should be a easy game for are D are o well have it good spots and its vary bad spots
If the lions can play like they did in the 1st ½ last week we will win like 45-7 but we wont play like that so it will be more like 13-10 lions win

Is that final sentence suggesting that Zorn once played for the Lions? Far as I know, he played the majority of his career in Seattle, and then finished up with brief stints in Green Bay and Tampa. What connection does he have to Detroit?

  20. jessbrox809 says: Sep 22, 2009 2:26 PM

Any coach would say the same thing, even Rex Ryan (and that’s saying something)
There’s just certain questions coaches have to take a politically correct stance on.

Zorn should be worried. Im am a Skins fan but his clock management and play calling skills are at a high school level.

1st off Florio you typed it wrong he said “Im trying to get ready for Detroit” 2nd Zorn is a good coach and all of you haters will soon see when the skins are 5-1 going into Philly game week 7! While I agree the red zone offense was inexcusable this past sunday,I must say the defense has been little short of perfect and there are too many weapons not to improve on offense.Zorn isnt going anywhere except to Miami for super bowl. This team is the real deal and the rest of the nfc better not sleep.HAIL TO THE REDSKINS

  27. jahbird says: Sep 22, 2009 2:48 PM

First–Skins win. Easily. The lions’ best Defensive player will be out of the game and the skins D is going to eat up both CJ and Kevin Smith ’cause there is no one left to respect. The skins hold the edge in that their offense cant get much worse, but Detroit’s can’t get any better.
Second–Judging by Det32’s comments…at least we know DMV’s school systems are superior.

Florio, What is your new superbowl prediction? Your skins prediction was as comical then as it is now. You should go back to just posting rumors with which got you to NBC rather than making predictions. Still think that the Giants will regret giving Eli that new contract?

  30. dcfan-1212450 says: Sep 22, 2009 3:17 PM

For all the skins fans who watched that ugly game, did you guys see Dan Smith (special teams coach) stop Zorn because he was trying to call a timeout with like 20 seconds left on the playclock in those last 3 minutes. The guy is in over his head. Its no surprise, quarterbacks coach to head coach and playcaller. He still hasnt grasped the game. His play calling in the Rams game was the worst yet. If the Redskins dont make the playoffs, and we wont, Zorn is fired. If we do make the playoffs he still may be fired. With such a tough division you cant have a mediocre coach. And right now there are 5, count them 5 Super Bowl winning coaches unemployed. Brian Billick, Mike Shanahan, Mike Holmgren, John Gruden, and Tony Dungy. Oh, and 4/5 won within the last 7 years. With the Redskins team, a spending owner, and that heavy desire to win, expect a coachin change unless we make the second round of the playoffs. Enough said. And bash us if you want, the coaching and management warrant that right now…

jahbird – you talking about Sims being our best defensive player? Psssssshhhhh
We have a rookie and a second year player (Levy and Dizon) that fans fully expect to be able to step up and do nearly the job Sims did – if not more.
If I were the ‘skins I wouldn’t be looking past the Lions.

If that is the case, why isnt he starting over Sims. Your rookie WLB does not scare me, and he doesnt scare the likes of Sellerss, Portis, and Chris Cooley.
If the skins lose it will be because they shoot themselves in the foot, not because of Calvin Johnson, and certainly not because of a Rookie backup.

It’s very clear zorn job status could change with a loss to a team who hasn’t seen a “W” since 2007.

By my name its clear I’m a redskins fan so I might be a bit optimistic. However let’s go over Redskins/Rams game.

    Sloppy WIN
    J. Campbell 23/35 242 0 0

Zorn play calling got the skins in the Redzone 5 times. Zorn also got 10 to goal 4 times.

If Thomas Snagged the good toss from Campbell and Portis was able to score on the 4th and 1 situation, No one would be asking Zorn how he feels about his job security. Even with the other 3 field goals he would still be looking at a respectable 23 points

I know this didn’t happen.. but here are things that cant be disputed… Redskins moved the ball effectively outside the redzone with out using 1 or 2 players. Lions defense is comparable to the rams. I’m just saying its more likely if we can get in the redzone 5 times like we did with the rams. I truly doubt we will go 0/5 TD’s… a team that move the ball so effectively cant suck. But i guess will wait and see!!!!

BOOOOO… I was at the game. Season ticket holder fan for life through the good and the bad. but BOOOOO. I boo the owner, GM, Coaches, and players who don’t perform when needed the most (2 droped touchdown passes, holding and false start calls, bad playcalling ect…) so we moved the ball, so what our defence has only allowed 14pts in two games. What’s gonna happen for the rest of the season? Piss pour performance just another 8-8 season of dissapointment. If this game was against dallas or philly I would have said great defensive game and would have been glad we one by two….BUT IT WAS THE RAMS!!! whats gonna happen in detroit?? BOOOOOOOOO Through the good and bad HTTR

I really love Daniel Snyder. He seems to be the perfect owner of a team you root against. As long as he is the owner of the Redskins they will never win a championship. After years of overspending on big name overrated players he has not learned a thing. He has traded away valuable draft choices which would have added some much needed depth to the team. The funny thing is that the skins have become a better drafting team, excluding Campbell.
