Flozell out $12,500 for tripping Tuck

Ten years ago, Cowboys tackle Flozell “the Hotel” Adams thought that the league went too light on former Vikings defensive end Duane Clemons for punching Adams in the “Motel 6.”

Adams thought the $7,500 fine was “ludicrous.”

We wonder what Adams thinks of the $12,500 fine that has been imposed on him for tripping Giants defensive end Justin Tuck on Sunday night.

Per Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News, Adams has been slapped with that specific penalty by the league.  It’s the second fine imposed on Adams in two weeks of the 2009 regular season.

Tuck reportedly could miss a game or two because of a shoulder injury that he suffered while tumbling to the ground after being tripped by Adams.

THIS GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A GOOD BEATING OFF THE FIELD BY A FEW GIANT PLAYER FOR TRIPPING TUCK, HE IS A DIRTY PLAYER AND HE HAS NO SHAME.
HE SHOULD DO THE REST OF THE NFL PLAYERS A FAVOR AND RETIRE BECAUSE HE GET’S BEAT QUITE OFTEN, HE IS WASHED UP.LOW LIFE SCUM!!!!

  2. silva26 says: Sep 23, 2009 4:04 PM

He gets fined $12,500 for tripping someone but that fat lard of a DT on the Panthers gets away fine-free for belly flopping onto McNabb after he had already crossed the goal line. That’s seems fair.

  3. ZombieRevolution says: Sep 23, 2009 4:05 PM

Should he apologize for his illegal manuver? Shouldn’t you compare this fine with other fines for more serious violations?
Oh wait- this likely will only generate a few web hits, so no mock outrage and only limited insulting comments about Flozell. Because that’s how Mike rolls. If this was about Favre we would see a series posts…

  6. chapnasty says: Sep 23, 2009 4:08 PM

Anyone who saw this knows it wasn’t a trip. Flozel was adjusting his body to one side and in order to do so needed to move his base to that side as well. Upon doing so, his plant leg hit the pansy tuck and he fell to the ground. Much like a Punter would do if the guy trying to block a punt farted and the wind hit him.

  7. RevSkip says: Sep 23, 2009 4:13 PM

No one should be surprised. There is a reason Flozell is one of the most penalized linemen in the league. He’s dirty and lazy. His laziness leads to holding and the dirty plays.

Sure it was bush league, but there are certainly worse things that happen on a football field that don’t attract a fine.

I TYPE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE INTERNET!
But anyway, this is kind of ridiculous. I mean yeah – he definitely should be disciplined somehow for what he did, but $12,500 seems a bit high, for a trip.
How about $7500 and a stern lecture? Geez.

Typical classless cowboys player (the Cowboys fans are no better). They can’t win by following the rules so they resort to tactics like this.
Even so, they’re still a mediocre team at best.
Let’s see some more articles about how Romo’s already reached his potential and can’t win a big game. Those are always fun.

Washed up? Close. Low-life scum? By NFL standards he is nowhere near close. Idiot.

  20. Resolution says: Sep 23, 2009 4:29 PM

haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha! Awesome. He SHOULD get fined, especially given his attitude towards it and the fact he has done it to OTHER players on OTHER teams. I look forward to the rematch game where we’ll hear about how bounties don’t exist, after someone takes out Adams. Or, maybe Adams would be dumb enough to try that stunt on Haynesworth
As a giants fan, as much as I don’t like the eagles, I agree with Silva26. That steam-rolling-McNabb bit didn’t look clean. But Silva, look on the bright side, you have Garcia now, he is miles better than Kolb, a better passer than Vick, more durable than Mcnabb.

What was really pathetic was this guys performance. Beaten and beaten until he was reduced to floundering around and tripping as a last resort. Fine him all you want, but the embarrassment of seeing that game replayed should be all the punishment he needs.

  23. cfuska says: Sep 23, 2009 4:45 PM

Let me just say first that this trip was so blatant that Stevie Wonder could have made the call. It was an awful attempt to stop an oncoming defender and he deserves the fine, if not a game suspension.
Having said that, I love how somebody does one thing to get fined and/or penalized and all of the sudden they’re a dirty player. I consider someone a dirty player who when throughout the course of their career makes dirty plays, not just one or two or a handful over a long career. Every single player does something they shouldn’t on and off the field. It’s just a matter of whether or not they get caught. Calling someone a dirty player right off the bat is a stretch. Now i don’t know if the Flozell does dirty plays a lot, because I don’t usually watch the Cowboys, but one or two questionable plays or acts doesn’t make someone a dirty player.

    Five reasons:
    1. A player out two weeks from falling to the ground.
    2. A player out two weeks from falling to the ground.
    3. A players gets fined for simply sticking his foot out.
    4. McNabb takes a BLATANT late knee to the ribs… Then, NO FINE.

Florio and assorted posters above… the fine was $12,500 COLLECTIVELY for TWO separate trips from Sunday night. One, the flagged play against Tuck, the other, a non-flagged play against Osi Umenyiora.
and i love the people (Dallas fans) trying to rationalize Flozell constantly tripping people as not being “that bad.” yeah, i suppose you would be singing the same exact song if David Diehl covered up for his aging lack of skill by yanking illegal moves out of his hindquarters by tripping Demarcus Ware a few times. oh, that’s right… he didn’t need to do anything because big bad Demarcus was nowhere to be found.

  40. Trenchant Savant says: Sep 23, 2009 5:40 PM

@chapnasty – I’m really not sure what play you were watching, because this was one of the most obvious, blatant penalties I have ever seen. Adams practically kicked Tuck in the knee. I thought he was trying to win the All-Valley Championship for christ’s sake.
A penalty makes sense for a violation of the rules, and a fine makes sense when that violation causes an injury to another player. You want to make it a real deterrent, fine the player who caused the injury the same amount as the injured player’s salary for the time he’s out. You’ll see mickey mouse shit like this disappear in no time.

  41. Levito says: Sep 23, 2009 5:52 PM

Wow, gotta love all the stupid cowboys defending their dumb-ass tackle, Slowzell Turnstyle Adams. I can’t believe you Cowdung fans really can say it wasn’t blatant. But then again, I guess you’re all watching with the same eyes that think Romo’s the second coming.

  43. VoxVeritas says: Sep 23, 2009 6:05 PM

What would Tuck do? He’d make a move and trip and break his taint in the process then end up getting curb-stomped like the ineffectual ham-n-egger that he is. Graceful and with a great amount of control over his body, he is NOT. I mean obviously.
Nice cops you got up in NY, by the way… tipping off the terrorists like they did.

  47. DoomsDayD75 says: Sep 23, 2009 6:22 PM

  48. penguininbondage says: Sep 23, 2009 6:25 PM

This guy is one of the dirtiest players in the league. The fact that he was only fined is a gift.
Although as a lineman I always knew the snapcount, we were all still taught to watch for the ball movement. He must be blind too.

  49. Branephood says: Sep 23, 2009 6:26 PM

For 12.5 Big Flo should rip of Tuck’s helmet next time and punch her in the mouth. Tripping isn’t even a personal foul and he gets fined? The NFL is getting as bad as NASCAR with these weekly (mis) interpretations of their rules.

  50. Bill Cowher's Chin says: Sep 23, 2009 6:26 PM

First, the Cowboys suck! Now that we got that out of the way….
Was it a dirty play? Absolutely
Did he deserve the fine? Absolutely
But it was also a smart play. I would approve of any lineman tripping thier opponent, when they are beaten like a drum, in order to precerve their quarterback.
All of the Giants fans are all pissed, but look at it the other way, if it was your O Lineman that tripped one of their opponents, you would be pretty thrilled about it.
That trip was the difference between Romo finishing the game, and Romo getting destroyed by an incredible athlete (Tuck).
I think it is a no brainer for Slowzell, trip Tuck, save Romo……

  51. DocBG says: Sep 23, 2009 6:56 PM

You are all missing the point here folks
Take a look at the most commented on article on PFT. Anyone else notice that its in regards to the cowboys supposedly getting favors from the NFL?
The fine is as much to destroy that perception as it is to get flozell to stop taking cheap shots.
If you watched the game and didn’t see the obvious trip on tuck that they replayed time and time again, you do not have a good grasp on reality. Whose to say if he wouldn’t hurt his shoulder anyway, its not like he went down any harder than he has countless times before. Yes the trip was a cheap move, but the fine is about getting people to stop bitching that the cowboys are getting favors from the league office. sometimes you gotta read between the lines people, and so far no one here has.

  52. Backinthesaddle says: Sep 23, 2009 7:07 PM

I saw the play and it was a trip…barely…but certainly not worthy of a fine. I seem to recall that when a player tripped another player in this fashion that they were assessed the penalty on the field and we moved on. This should not have been assessed a fine.

  53. penguininbondage says: Sep 23, 2009 7:17 PM

First, I, like the rest of us are potential buyers of products advertised on this site. As a resultt he information needs to make people interested which results in hits which results in incentive for advertisers to advertise and line Florio’s pockets. Where the hell the buyer of websites thing came from I don’t know.
Second, saying I visit this site 4-6 times a day is a massive understatement. I have an extremely boring job that allows me to check this website 4-6 times an hour let alone a day.
Third, I have no other issues with this site, or Florio or anyone on here. I enjoy debating with fans of other teams as unlike things like politics, the passion in NFL arguments is usually in good nature and never insults someone on a personal level. (Unless of course someone says something so stupid that they remove all shadows of a doubt that they are in fact retarted and it then becomes my job or even yours to point it out)
Fourth, based off of my third point, if this site went away I would lose my mind. I was simply pointing out that when enough people say they are sick of the Cowboy hatred and stories in general that are meaningless about the Cowboys they may leave which could result in a lower number of hits. However I then said that it wouldnt matter because there are more Cowboy haters than anyone so there will always be someone to replace the occasional idiot who leaves.
I hope this clears everything up for you pal, I look forward to future debates.

I agree 100 percent. Being a cop or a firefighter doesn’t automatically qualify you as a hero – but the officers and firemen that went to work when the rest of the nation was peeing themselves out of fear, many of whom had their lives ruined in the process due to the debris/smoke/asbestos/etc. they were exposed to?
Those guys are heroes, and they’re the exact opposite of cowards like Vox.

And Vox I am a fellow Cowboy fan but dude the cop thing was way out of line. Might as well apologize bro.

I agree that facts are very important to the debates. I differ, though, in the purpose. Facts are used to support the truth in your points. Proving others wrong is only applicable when they refuse to accept the truth. The most common way people avoid the truth is to attack the intelligence and validity of another’s points. That has happened quite a bit these past few days by certain people. I hope tomorrow will be more civil.

Also, Tuck is a bitch? I’d love to see him kill you with his pinky finger because he’s a massive monster who is awesome at football. Massive.

Yes, tuck is a bitch. Any guy that blows his little shoulder out after getting tripped, in my opnion, a bitch. Sorry. You’ll have to deal with it I guess. You should be glad that play happened, without it the vagiants lose the game sunday night….
If i asked you before the game- would you trade tuck (the guy who is getting outplayed by a lineman who sat out all last season) for a win, you would’ve gladly done the deal…..dont cry about it now.
    Now, to your other comment-
You got pretty riled up there huh? Are you and florio dating or something? Do you guys hang out at the manhole? Look kid, I get it, you dont like people talking about your boyfriend/gay lover, you’ll get over it….

Fanamine, I wont try to speak for you, my voice is too deep, but if you were given 2 optios, which would you take?
Option 1) your offensive line trips the other teams defensive line, in order to save Eli Manning from getting blowed up
Option 2) Your offensive line just falls over, and makes no effort to save Manning, and Eli gets absolutely destroyed
If you take choice 2, you are a retard.
There are always “good” penalties, and “smart” penalties. When a lineman gets beat, he trips, or tackles the guy who is going to kill his QB. He knows it will be a penalty, but taking the 5 or 10 yard penalty, is way better than ruining your season when you QB goes down with an injury. Another smart penalty is when a defensive back gets owned, and tackles the receiver. Yes, it is a penalty, and yes the offense gets all of those yards, but it prevents a TD
