Report: Shanahan wasn’t going to cut Marshall

It was more than a week ago that Florio wrote how he didn’t believe the ESPN report that Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was going to cut Brandon Marshall.

The issue would appear to be dead at this point. But in true PFT style, let’s make sure it’s really dead with another flogging.

The Denver Post writes Shanahan has been telling people that the report is not true, and that he had no intention of cutting Marshall. Which makes a lot of sense.

Shanahan, after all, was the man who kept giving Travis Henry chances to turn his life around. There were many other players far less talented than Marshall with worse off-field issues that received second chances in Denver.

Marshall is at no risk of getting cut by the new staff either, but he has some work to do to guarantee a full complement of snaps. If Marshall doesn’t get up to speed, the Broncos are a lot more likely to let him walk via free agency next offseason.

Maybe he can hook up with Shanahan’s new team then.
