The Eagles are carrying four quarterbacks, which given the specific circumstances the team faces is no big deal.
The Titans, in contrast, now have three punters. Three.
Veteran Craig Hentrich is injured, so Reggie Hodges has been signed to take his place for at least a week.
And A.J. Trapasso, who lost the competition with Hodges for the roster spot, has been added to the practice squad.
Come Saturday, however, don’t be surprised if the Titans invoke the 54-man roster privilege, cutting Hentrich, paying him for Week Three, and then re-signing him on Monday. They did the same thing last year on at least one occasion with quarterback Chris Simms. As long as the Titans are confident that Hentrich wouldn’t sign with someone else, it’s a way to not carry two punters on the 53-man game day roster.
After the trade deadline, this maneuver would entail some risk, since vested veterans at that point will be subject to waivers.
Trapasso’s claim to fame is that he punted a ball into the massive video board at Cowboys Stadium during a preseason game.
“And A.J. Trapasso, who lost the competition with Hodges for the roster spot, has been added to the practice squad.”
Did he bring a Big Mac extra value meal with him?
“After the trade deadline, this maneuver would entail some risk, since vested veterans at that point will be subject to waivers.”
No banging the drum over the early NFL trading deadline or extending the trading deadline into November yet?
C’mon Florio, NBC has made you soft.
“Trapasso’s claim to fame is that he punted a ball into the massive video board at Cowboys Stadium during a preseason game.”
And the great fake punt at the HOF game!!
Why bother trying to save a 53-man roster spot by bumping Hentrich for a weekend? It won’t get them any additional game day spots (presumably, Hentrich would be inactive anyway), and whoever they add to be inactive in his place would just have to be cut to re-add him, anyway.
It makes sense in the first week of the season, when teams are trying to avoid potentially owing termination pay to a guy down the road. And it would make sense if they wanted to a guy who would be active for that one game, but I don’t see that scenario, here.
If they release on of them, Rex Ryan will sign them and pick their brains about the Titan’s punt formations.
Please try it Titans – Craig come on back to Green Bay, we’ve missed you.
Gene smith might sign him.

Almost made it through without mentioning the Cowboys. Nice try guys.

The Titans already (presumably) signed Hodges for this info, and info about other Jets practices. Hodges was the Jets punter last year and this year in the preseason before getting cut.
Jim Rome’s golden boy will not be denied!
AJ Trapasso there is a spot for you in the NFL somewhere kid! Keep up the fight! You da man!! Don’t start selling insurance just yet!!!
The Eagles have four quarterbacks and no punters
well, the JETS already signed Trapasso and released him, so are the Titans picking his brain that’s already been picked over?
wait…what?
It the Titans have three punters, that a full three more than GB has.
Having three punters on the roster is like saying, “We’re 0-2 and we like it.”
A.J. Trapasso will be the future punter for the Titans… if he isn’t signed away from the Titans practice squad before next season.
