Eagles have "extensive" package of plays for Vick

As Eagles quarterback Mike Vick prepares to make his official return to football for the first time since December 2006, ESPN’s Sal Paolatonio reports that the team is working on an “extensive” package of plays for the man who spent the last two football seasons doing something other than playing football.

The package, per Paolantonio, consists of shotgun and Wildcat formations.

Regarding coach Andy Reid’s coy approach to Vick’s status on Sunday, Paolantonio was blunt.

“Don’t believe it,” Paolantonio said during a SportsCenter segment.  “Too much time and emotion has been invested by Vick, this franchise, and this city to get Vick to this point and not have him play.”

So of the four quarterbacks on the Philly roster, Vick is the only one whose name can be added in ink to the list of guys the Chiefs can expect to see.  As to Donovan McNabb (rib), Kevin Kolb, and Jeff Garcia, Kansas City can’t rule out any of them, and thus must prepare for each of them.

It will count for nothing if the Defense and Special Teams continue to play like they did against the Saints. DMac needs to get that rib ‘sticky’ real quick.
What happens if DMac sits and Eagles lose, and Hasselback plays and wins?

The Jailbird Shuffle, The Dog Biting Muffle, and the Ron Mexico Border Breeding Formation are my favorites.
I’m sure that a Falcon-styled one finger salute toward the stands will lead the Eagle Faithful to get into the SHOT-GUN Formation being that Vick is a fleet footed receiver. In which case, HE BETTER BE! ; )

Ahhhh, the preperation won’t be too different. Vick looked terrible in the preseason, showing all the hallmarks of the crappy passer that he continues to be. Yes, he’s an athlete but he got sacked A LOT in the preseason. As for preparing for Kolb/Garcia? Basically you’re preparing for the same package of plays regardless.
On a side note, is it possible to get the comment ratings again? That was one of the best things about the old site.

Vick is gonna run all over the Chiefs.

I am really excited to see what Andy and Marty have come up with. This game may be extremely fun to watch. One thing that is certainly in their favor is the opponent. I don’t really see the outcome being much of an issue. Try everything you got Andy!

  6. TFBuckFutter says: Sep 24, 2009 8:24 AM

Unless the package of plays is “Throw the ball to the tight end” and “Bounce the ball five yards short of any receiver” I think he may have trouble understanding them.

  7. SirRibbit says: Sep 24, 2009 8:47 AM

I can’t wait to see what Big Red comes up with.
He was actually angry when reporters said he only ran 9 “Wildcat” plays, because they really ran 12 if you include the option plays where Kolb still lined up at QB.
Vick is also in MUCH better shape than he was two weeks ago in the preseason when he was still fresh off home confinement.

Man, if the Eagles are gonna unveil Mike Vicks “package” I hope they take him out for a nice dinner and a movie

Careful of the Mike Vick package (it has an STD).
Also, keep in mind that this article is by Sal Pal. Sal Pal is the only person more consistently wrong about the Eagles than Florio. However, I do believe it.

And hopefully have the Valtrex ready

It’s the Chiefs. They really don’t have to try this hard. If Kolb can’t beat KC w/o Vick, gadget plays and wildcats, the Eagles really need to cut him loose. He has no future.

Just curious if any WR’s are part of their plans – they sure weren’t when he was in Atlanta or at least Vick claimed.

This will be the Game of the Week
    Final score:
    Mike Vick = 1
    All you haters = 0

I hope he runs for 3 TDs this week.

I’ve got mixed feelings. I’ll be at the game and seeing this peice of crap will not be the part I enjoy regardless of how much he does.

  16. Samuel L. Bronkowitz says: Sep 24, 2009 10:45 AM

Reid has “extensive” stash of Twinkies behind the bench.
Seriously… take it from a life-long Falcons fan. Vick was never that good of a quarterback. He had unbelievable speed and elusiveness, but he simply could not hit a receiver on the run. Look at the tapes of his last two seasons in ATL – the receivers would literally run to a spot, turn around, and wait on the ball. And in all those games, he never, ever learned to protect the ball. He’d hold it out there and make it so easy for a defender to swat it out.
I’m not a hater – I hope he is truly rehabbed from the awful things he did – but I would take McNabb, Kolb, or Garcia in a heartbeat over him.

  17. birdmancometh says: Sep 24, 2009 10:56 AM

Thats fine Samuel, but he won’t be the QB for the Eagles. He’ll be running the Spread Eagle and driving defenses crazy.

Even with Eagurls D and special teams if Vick Plays like he did in preseason it will be a long day for the Eagurls.
    Preseason stats:
    Passing
    19 plays : 11/15 : 45 yards : 0 td : 1 int : 4 sacks : -40 yards lost
    47.9 rating : 19 plays : 5 net yards
    Rushing
    8 rushes : 36 yards : 1 td : 2 fumbles : 1 lost fumble
    Total Offense
    27 plays : 41 yards : 1 td : 2 turnovers

  20. Big_Monkey says: Sep 24, 2009 11:09 AM

I agree with Samuel that Vick is not that good of a passer. We’ll see how he does and I hope he does well.
In regards to the Eagles not having to try hard cause it’s the Chiefs…don’t believe it.
This is the NFL and all these guys are good and the Eagles better bring it if they hope to pull this one off.

  21. bednarik60 says: Sep 24, 2009 11:26 AM

    PhillyDevilDog,
I want McNabb just as much (or more) than the next guy, but as far as we know Hasselbeck’s rib isn’t threatening to destroy a vital organ. McNabb’s is/was.

I love all of these preseason references, haha. What on earth has that anything to do with what he will do Sunday? 4th string offensive line and 4th string receivers without Westbrook is a real good indication of things to come, let me tell you. At least if you are going to be a hater – come up with something good. Or do they not have access to google from Arby’s touch screen. Vick’s not going to be the best QB out there because he isn’t one YET, and may never be. The mere fact that he can take DeSean Jackson’s place in the wildcat and BOMB the ball TO Desean should be giving the Chiefs D coord. nightmares. Or he may just run it. YOU NEVER KNOW.
All of these so-called ‘haters’ have posted multiple times on Vick and can’t stand it that he is not on their team. I love it. In regards to last week. The game would have had a totally different outcome without the two costly turnovers to start the second half giving it to one of the best offenses in football. Also, did anyone notice Kolb’s pass in the first half leading Desean for a touchdown? You may see that multiple times this week.
Also, Lions win finally against the Skins this week.

“He’ll be running the Spread Eagle”
So not all that different from his stay in prison.

  24. sullijo says: Sep 24, 2009 12:15 PM

Vick running gadget plays against the Chiefs makes me think of the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals.
This is going to be hilarious – Vick bounces the ball off the head of an unsuspecting Chiefs LB all the way down the field……
2 wins in their last 27, fewer wins than the Lions since 2007. Nice job Chiefs franchise!!!!

Eagles have extensive Box of Hostess Twinkies for Reid.
    Eagles are pro football’s Rays.

  26. backuppunter says: Sep 24, 2009 1:11 PM

It’s the chiefs! They could put anybody at qb and hand the ball off 900 times. Mik Vik could run nothing but qb sneaks. They could simply punt as soon as they got the ball. The eagles would probably get enough points off defense and special teams to win the game.

  27. texasPHINSfan says: Sep 24, 2009 3:37 PM

i’m still wondering how Vick will “run” the wildcat when by definition the formation doesn’t have the QB under center.

  28. Poopdollar says: Sep 24, 2009 3:59 PM

texasPHINSfan, maybe your handle has something to do with your stupidity

I hope Vick finds himself facing a couple of 350 lb. linemen that watch Ole Yeller and cry like babies at the end.

  31. Mariann Pepitone says: Sep 24, 2009 8:21 PM

Being a very severe animal lover I doubt I would hire him if I was an owner of a team but then maybe I would. I don’t hate Vick I hate the sin he committed and that will stay with him the rest of his life. However, now that he has been hired to play for the Eagles it is time to heal the wounds and move on. His dogs were rescued and most have new homes now. None were put to sleep. I cannot imagine with the millions he was making what was he thinking. It couldn’t be money it had to be blood. He admitted he made a serious mistake and now wants to go on with his life. I don’t wish him bad luck on the field and I believe he is remorseful plus I don’t think he would harm dogs again. His story has to be put to rest because it is in the past and we have to go on with the future. Who knows, he might do great with the Eagles. One thing I don’t belive in is booing sports figures. Fans need to behave themselves and stop the nasty remarks.

  32. Poopdollar says: Sep 24, 2009 8:43 PM

Hey Mariann, we didn’t ask for your life story – I almost cried, but not quite. And Reba, they wear facemasks in football – maybe you two should go cook dinner together or something.
