Eagles try out an old friend

Jeremiah Trotter, 32, hasn't played in the NFL since 2007 because of knee injuries, and he hasn't played in Philadelphia since 2006.

But he reportedly keeps telling the organization that he wants to and can still play.  The Eagles, clearly in need of some linebacker help, decided this week to see if Trotter was all bluster or if he was in playing shape.

They tried out the four-time Pro Bowler, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  To this point, they haven't signed him.

Perhaps they just did it as a favor to Trotter.   Or maybe they are a little desperate, and willing to consider some unconventional ideas to help out the middle of their defense.

(And just as we were about to make a Seth Joyner crack, we see Schefter already made one about Chuck Bednarik.  Well done.)

Uh oh, somebody ran out of Thunderbird and crack.

    WTF...?

i love it. we've been missing his swagger. if they can keep him out of pass coverage, he REALLY beefs up our run defense.

Bring back Cunningham! I bet he can still play about as well as a rusty, older Vick.

Byron Evans was more the inside guy.

Some guys seem old even when they're young and Trotter was one of those guys. He would add nothing to the Eagles or anyone else. Thirty-two and been out of the league for two years because of knee injuries ? Turn out the lights.

Unreal. What a joke. Simply trying him out symbolizes how much trouble my boys are in this year. We'll be lucky to win 5 games.

Trotters ONLY 32???? Dude like 40 like 5 years ago

This is what bothers me about this site - this paragraph here, "Perhaps they just did it as a favor to Trotter. Or maybe they are a little desperate, and willing to consider some unconventional ideas to help out the middle of their defense." This is a good story, i had not read it anywhere else when i saw it on this site - just write the story, give us the news. Why then throw in a wasteful paragraph at the end based on complete speculation. It is just poor journalism, and it is completely unnecessary.

LOL - dude is washed up!

    Re: shefter

I do enjoy his insight and breaking news via Twitter but I hate when he (or any sports analyst, etc. for that matter) tries to crack jokes on their Twitter. 9/10 times, they are awful.

    Just woke up, eh?

Bringing back trotter. wow. are the Eagles D that desperate? i think so. look what NO did to them. sadly. i don't think it's the players fault. there's only 1 time i can rememeber in recent hostiry where our Defense just got snowballed.. by the Seahawks. 42-0. remember that Decemebr game? and Trotter was a part of it then..
will it help.. hmm, maybe the moral. which is severly underrated, obviously, by the Eagles FO. they thought Dawk would stay for less money.. left Buck go.. each of which are doing an incredble job in their new digs at mile high.
I wonder, esp with the Quarterback carosel, if Jaworski is salivating yet... ooh., they're gonna call. i can feel it..

Still, when are they gonna drop Reggie Brown? after all the other good players have been left go cause of his contract.. Amendola went to the Rams. that sucks.

Bring in Trotter, then i can buy another Jersey that will be an antique in a yr. just like Dawkins jersey is, and Garcia's will be, and even Mike Vick.. Route for your laundry guys

Wow, for a minute I was thinking they were going to see if Jaws had anything left!

    winkel33,

There are hundreds of "plain" news sites.

They don't claim this to be professional journalism. If you want boring AP stories, go to ESPN.com, AP.com or whatever. But quit your whining here.

Do they let players use walkers now?

Oh come on, Florio is who we thought he was. It makes some people laugh, and the other people get their impetus for moral outrage and get to lash out.

Either way, it's fun. Lighten up.

I honestly thought he was alot older than 32...

Somebody got off on the wrong exit and missed a few turns...

Keep reading, rook. You'll get the hang of it

  19. DarthPirate says: September 24, 2009 7:42 PM

Wow, he's only 32? I know he really fell off, but I remember him being a very good player.

Trotter was a trooper but those knees are shot.

  21. NoFootballtalk says: September 24, 2009 7:51 PM

Lol maybe the 2009 Eagles can win with the 2006-2007 Eagles. But on a serious note, Trotter could be a contributor, but he is not a starter anymore by any means.

The D was bad, but not as horrible as everyone might think. The real problem was that turnovers by Kolb and the fumble form Hobbs right after the half kept the D on the field too long, which gave Brees time to shred the secondary. When playing QBs like Brady, Peyton, and Brees, time of possession is a major stat as is turnovers. Peyton proved that he can win in less than 1 quarter of a game. Every turnover counts in these games and the plan has to be to keep the elite QBs off the field as long as possible. Take away the points off of turnovers (which gave Brees a very short field) by Kolb and Hobbs and you may be looking at 28-30 points for the Saints and something around that for the Eagles. It was a close game until the real Kevin Kolb showed up in the second half and threw away a possible victory.

At least we don't have that choke-artist ROMO!! Thank GOD!! Let's last time we saw him, he was on the wrong side of 44-6!
To his credit, that game was actually, by all counts, a playoff game as the winner moved on and the loser...well, went back to Dallas ;-)
KEEP ROMO!!! He's a great whipping boy for the rest of the division!

Didn't see the Miami game, did you?

    Wow.
People mistaking a sports blog for news.

It is news given with a personal opinion, but hard to mistake it as "official news" and that makes it fun to read.

Trotter>Peirce>Whatever scrub made Mario Manningham look like Jerry Rice last week.

To be fair, Fletcher > all of them. That is all.
