Huff's redemption can continue in the starting lineup

Raiders safety Michael Huff, the seventh pick of the 2006 draft, reached a low moment of his career during training camp when the team told him he was on the roster bubble.

Less than two months later, Huff is enjoying the most positive stretch of his career.  He’s recorded three interceptions in the first two games as a reserve, and will go back into the starting lineup this week because of an injury to starter Hiram Eugene.

If Huff continues his excellent play, he may be difficult to remove from Oakland’s suddenly deep secondary.

Also expected to be active for Oakland this week is wide receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins and running back Justin Fargas, who is now third on the depth chart.

Higgins’ active status spells trouble for Javon Walker, who can’t get on the field despite injuries all over the wide receiver position.

Walker doesn’t understand coach Tom Cable’s criticism that he’s slowing down.

“Ain’t nothing wrong with my in and out, coming out of breaks,” Walker
said. “I do it with the best of them. I do it with any other receiver
here. Plain and simple.”

With Chaz Schilens expected to return next week to push Walker even further down the depth chart, it at least seems possible Walker has seen his last action on the field with the team.

Javon Walker may have seen his last action with any team!

Finally Huff is doing what he needs to do! Cable did exactly what he needed to do by benching Huff last year….look at the result! He’s playing harder then I’ve ever seen and always seems to be in the right position to make a play! I cant wait till we see Mitchell come in at the SS! This secondary is almost untouchable!
Maybe Cable doing this to Javon is just going to push him harder the way it did Huff! The only thing it could do is improve the team! I think Javon could make a great #4 reciever…maybe even occasionaly line him up in the slot!

Now if Oakland could get some coaches for these players, you may see a team by the end of the year.

In Walker’s defense, he does have Russell to contend with. Still, he’s the only WR on the roster with any meaningful experience, so if he can’t get any face time, it has to be on him. Most of Oakland’s receivers are first or second year, second day draft picks. They need veteran leadership, not a lazy slug with a big mouth.
As for Huff, I don’t know what got into him, but even if it was only good enough to last two games, it’s two more than expected.

Why in the world won’t Cable play an experienced guy like walker?? Russell could use the help, plus he took a pay-cut to help the front office. C’mon Cable.

I agree with “TheTruthWillSet…” first thought I had was about Cable ticking Javon Walker off on purpose. Here’s a guy that’s been given a lot of love and deferrence and hasn’t produced ANYTHING for the team other than promises. Cable is rubbing JW’s nose in it and it’s gotta be irritating. My guess is that it’s pressing ALL the right buttons to get JW to make the most of a forth-coming opportunity. Sunday could be poetic, against his old team. We’ll see.

So, if Huff and Co. keep it up this year it will keep Al Davis from drafting Taylor Mays. Hopefully Al can resist the size/speed siren song that draws him like a fly to the bug zapper. Besides, this team has other glaring needs. Like gulp, maybe a franchise quarterback.
Jimmy Clausen anybody? Jake Locker? Heard Locker can run a 4.4. Sarkisian is trying to model him after Steve Young. That’ll work. Tim Tebow? At least he’s a better leader and winner than Jamarcus.
It’s do or die time for Russell this season. So far, not so good.

I’m sorry, but the Walker situation is another BS Al Davis move. Javon knows the offense and knows the routes, and according to Jerry McDonald looked better during training camp than he ever has while he’s been a Raider. He has re-structured his contract and done and said all the right things without being negative and a royal pain in the ass.
JaBustus himself said he doesn’t feel comfortable with the rooks being where they are supposed to be and not knowing their routes, Javon can only help with this situation and I am evidently one of the very few on his side. Another collossal waste of money and another detriment to the team
if Al keeps him on the bench all year.

    @vegasdumpo…
Should we take a page from your scary great team and coaching staff and piss off our best players so we can trade them?
    Really just thinking it through.

Hard to believe they wouldn’t get more interest after that dramatic win over the Chiefs.
