marcduke – i don’t think anyone is saying swine flu will kill anyone. the fact is it IS spreading and is everywhere. It’s very uncomfortable and can legitimately put people down for awhile.
percy obviously has either a propensity to contract everything that comes within miles of him (immune deficiency?), or just a string of bad luck.
the bottom line is he hasn’t missed a regular season game yet, and he’s 2/2 with TD’s in games he plays. I’m not even a Vikings fan and i’d take those stats even with his illnesses.

Yeah, he got the flu after previously having a cold — I’ll bet it’s a combination of cancer/AIDS/herpes/elephantitis and he’ll be dead in 3 weeks. Sheesh, the sky is falling. I guess we just have to admit that Percy (and his 2 TDs to date) will turn out to be another Harrell, or a Brohm, or a Barbre, or a Rouse, or a Hawk, or pehaps just like every other crappy O-lineman playing in the land of cheese.

Since nobody has stated the obvious I will. H1N1 concerns are aplenty in Minneapolis area right now and it is quite possible that the team has a policy of keeping players away from practice if they have flu like symptoms until H1N1 can be eliminated.

WHAT??? They are no greater here than anywhere else. I was just at St. Joes a week ago and there were NO extra precautions being taken. The only story I’ve heard about was regarding school buses that will be wiped down with bleach – only after an outbreak is recognized.
This H1N1 stuff is BS anyway – it’s the media who’s puffed this up into something scandalous . If it wasn’t for the source(swine) and the time of year(summer) it wouldn’t have been a blip on the scale. H1N1 killed far less people than the regular flu did last year. And yes, I do have a knowledge about the situation. As gruesome as it sounds, my company tracks each flu season – it effects our bottom line.

Sando is right on. Some schools in MN report 25% of their kids sick with flu right now…not a laughing matter. Hope he is ok and maybe should be tested for a more serious condition if this pattern persists. There is no question this kid is a gamer and can bring alot of excitement to the NFL.

1) 02/22/2009 – Arrives at the NFL combine on drugs with full knowledge and prior warning he would be tested for drug abuse. Tests positive for marijuanna. Placed in NFL’s substance abuse program. The NFL is now spending extra resources monitoring the player.
2) 5/1/2009 – missed 1st rookie practice do to severe dehydration, cause unknown, called in sick.
3) 06/29/2009 – Arrives at the NFL required rookie symposium and then tells medical personnel he is too ill to participate and is sent home.
4) 06/30/09 – Harvin ordered to attend the 2010 rookie symposium. Like the kid that flunked first grade Percy has to attend next year.
5) 07/31/09 – Harvin fails to report to Training Camp on time.
6) 08/04/09 – Harvin’s contract with the Vikings is disapproved by the NFL for rules violations.
7) 08/14/09 – Harvin is “hurt” (shoulder) and misses his first game, the preseason opener.
8) 09/24/09 Harvin misses practices due to another mystery illness that the vikings refuse to discuss.
Since being drafted Harvin has had a problem at least once every month. The pattern of trouble will continue.

Dwight White played in Super Bowl IX, was in the hospital for pneumonia and checked out to play, went back later.
However, maybe Percy has some sort of rhematologic immune disorder. Those who have it are extremely susceptible to germs and get sick often, don’t even realize they have it. It doesn’t show up on routine tests.

Hey, LiveNBreatheStupidThoughts: There’s a big difference between missing practice with the flu and missing a game. So don’t compare them. I’m sure he could take an IV like Colt McCoy (or Adrian Peterson against the Browns in week one), but no sense doing that for a Thursday practice.
And look at the other two instances — being removed from an airplane and asked to leave a symposium. Are you calling him a whimp for not taking an IV and sucking it up for those tasks?
And skipping practice won’t help with a drug test. As a first time offender (from the failed test at the combine) he should be subject to unannounded random tests. Those don’t get cancelled if he’s not there for a day, and one day wouldn’t do much to clean the system.

Favre purposely missed training camp, don’t see an issue with guys taking a day off here and there. You do say no-show, did he miss it and give notice or no-call no show type of thing?
