@stinemonster – overpaid? Would you rather all the money go to the already rich owners? These guys go out there day-in and day-out and put their bodies on the line. As some have mentioned here, we only wish we could have their talent. We, the fans, pay for this kind of entertainment and for memorabilia. The least we could ask for is that “your” team puts out a good product on the field.
Also, many of you are saying this is harsh/unfair. I hope you realize that not all state law is uniform. If you have a problem with something, write to state legislature instead of whining about unfairness.

NinerNation, I was going to post, but I can’t improve on what you wrote. Only thing I can add is for the morons who parrot the “he didn’t shoot anyone but himself” crap…
That he shot only himself was not an intentional act on his part. It was pure fate, happenstance, call it what you want, that he didn’t blow the brains out of an innocent bystander when that gun fell out. If he had, every single one of you douchebags would be calling for the electric chair.
He deserves the time in prision, I only wish I believed it would serve him some good, but it won’t.

I’m not a Giants fan but it was nice to see them beat New England in the Superbowl. I also think Leno’s joke was funny. Maybe not all that great but funny. And I think all pro athletes are way over paid.
I don’t think Burress should have gotten 2 years for what he did. I’ve done a lot worse things than this and was fortunate I didn’t get caught. I wasn’t dumb enough to shoot myself. There are people breaking into houses and beating old people and getting less time behind bars than this. An example needs to be set but not one this extreme for this crime. Hope he’s smart enough to get an attorney to appeal and maybe only do 6 months. Look at what Vic did and how much time did he get?

I dont get it. Why are these atheltes hanging out at Clubs anyway? You have way to much money to do that. bring the party to you, you can afford it. Going to a club where lo lifes hang out and are on the prowl for young rich men means disaster. Stay home do something cool instead of trying to flaunt who you are. You may think its cool that folks will wisper to there friends there is so and so he plays for so and so. Jokers are jealous and they dont like it when you “make it” and want to take what you have or embarass you. You think katz are gonna be all up in your grill wanting an autograph when on the real they are plotting your robbery or even your death. Stay away from the Clubs, do like the white boyz do, GO HOME and hang with your Family. they got the right idea and im black.

So why did that lughead demented judge sentence him to prison for shooting himself in the leg accidently. He is allowed to carry a loaded gun in his state but NY doesn’t permit it. All the judge had to do was fine him and tell him he cannot carry a loaded gun in NY. We do have wacko judges and jurors who don’t have the brains to sit on or a window to throw them out of. I agree with Leno. And those prisoners in the first cell who gave him a rude welcome hate the fact that he is a celebrity and they are nothing and always will be nothing. His lawyer should take it to appeals court and they should release him ASAP. He doesn’t deserve that injustice.

2 years for shooting yourself is a bit accesive. He is an Idiot for sure, but i dont think he deserved a sentence like that. 6 months in prison and a couple years probation would do it, but 2 years? WOW!!! damn he got Screwed.

I think that this is an abuse of power by the judicial system. We must weigh the crime against the punishment. This was extreme in my opinion. This man doesn’t have any records or being a bad UN lawful bidding citizen. So what he wants to act like a thug, this is America and he has the right to emulates anyone he wants as long as he doesn’t break the law. Now with that being said, if he does break the law, which he did, then the punishment should fit the crime. This is the system attempting to make an example out of another young black male. The message is very clear, you can be a millionaire, but as long as your skin color is dark, you will not receive the same treatment as others of white skin complexions. I also agree with the fact that this is not a laughing matter. This is 2 years of a person life for carrying a gun that he shot himself with, not killing anyone with. If you pull a gun, you get 10 years, if you shot a person you get 20 years, if you kill a person, you get 20 to life. But this is if you are using the weapon as a mean to commit a crime. There is an such thing as being stupid, but the judicial system is suppose to be fair and just when it deals with all cases. No one in their right mind would suggest that they be locked up for two years after shooting themselves. So you don’t like him, what has he done to you for you not to like him? You don’t even know him personally, so how could you form such a negative opinion about a person that you haven’t even met? This friend is what you can call ignorant. Question for all of the happy peoples on this site that thinks that he got what he deserve.. What would you think is just if it was you? Or your kid? I promise you that your answer will not be the same.

Burress is so 2007! He’s history – finished.
He’s simply another thug that time will forget. There will be countless others waiting in the wings to pick up where he left off.
Is it not ironic that as this country has become “softer” and “nicer” to its citizenry via the countless programs and community organizations and simply people changing, that more of its sons and daughters have become “harder” and more corrupted and criminal???
I’m just sayin’ – it certainly aint’ rocket science.

There are plenty of other Sports dirt bags that should be in jail for a longer time.
That said, when you break the law there is always a chance that you are made an example of.

I’m going to have to say that I completely agree with this. We put more people into prison per capita than any other country in the world, and over half of these prisoner are in there for non-violent crimes. Throwing a man in jail for two years, for illegally possessing a gun and shooting himself in the leg, is just outright ridiculous.
