Roy Williams wants the ball more

Former Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens acknowledged on Wednesday that he aspires to be an actor.  Apparently, current Cowboys receiver Roy Williams also hopes to become a thespian.

Roy’s first role?  T.O.

Earlier this week, Williams talked about not getting the ball thrown his way.

Yeah, it’s frustrating,” Williams told Clarence Hill of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram (via USA Today).  “Why is it not?  I feel like I’m a playmaker.  I feel like I can change the game.  I just do what I’m supposed to do.  I run my route and hopefully the ball will be there.  If not, I move on to the next play then move on to the next one.”

OK, so he has some work to do in order to fully portray one of the biggest pains in the posterior that pro football has to offer.  But given that the 2009 season is only two weeks old, and in light of the reality that Williams got the ball plenty in a Week One romp over the Bucs, the fact that Williams would be feeling any kind of frustration makes no sense.

Then again, the simple truth might be that they’re all divas and that they’re all pains in the butt, even the ones who try to say all the right things when other people are paying attention.

In one month the Cowboys will be irrelevant.

After nearly an all day silence on the Cowboys we get 3 in a row. Atta boy florio

He’s already doing a good T.O. impersonation – saw him drop a few easy catches the last two weeks.

This chump is just upset because everyone said he didn’t have the skills to replace TO or justify the massive trade Jerry made for him, and he wasn’t able to prove them wrong in week 2 due to Corey Webster abusing him. Webster is a good corner, this guy is a mediocre WR, and that’s that. I can’t wait until he becomes a new cancer for the cowgirls.

Look out, ‘Boys fans ! You’ve got another one! Think Jerry will stop this so it doesn’t distract poor little Tony Romo?

Sometimes he must do more than just run his route. Sometimes he has to actually get open. Maybe that will require a read, a route adjustment, a little physicality, or some improvisation. If he just runs his route and expects the ball to show up and meet him he will continue to find himself jilted by the oblate spheroid that loves to play the field.

come on, Florio. Don’t pick and choose like the big 4-letter. I have read many other quotes this week from Roy Williams about how if the running game is rocking, he doesn’t care if he doesn’t catch much. He will block for them the best he can so they can win. Post some of those, too.

Being shown up by a second year WR on national TV will do that to you.

  9. BENITO says: Sep 24, 2009 3:32 PM

vox is jacking it to this right now!!!

The way Romo looked in Game 2…..Williams may never see the ball again.

  11. andrew61083 says: Sep 24, 2009 3:34 PM

3 catches in week one is getting the ball “plenty” in week one?
Find me one WR who is happy with 3 catches.

  12. sgw94 says: Sep 24, 2009 3:36 PM

“I feel like a little bit of both,” Williams said. “There were a couple of times I was by myself. Like by myself on the sidelines, but the quarterback can’t see it all. I don’t blame him, by no means. We’ll watch film. He sees it. I’ve got to continue to get better as well.’’
Williams didn’t let his lack of involvement affect his play on the field. His down-field blocking keyed the 251- yard effort on the ground against the Giants.
“I try. I’m No. 66 this week. I got my neck roll on and I’m ready to go,” Williams said. “It didn’t happen in the passing game, so I had to turn into Flozell (Adams) on the outside and try to dominate in the run game. That’s what was working for us. There are going to be games like that.’’

Come on man, that dude was talking like the bizarro TO. When have you ever heard TO take some responsibility or talk up blocking to help the run game because its working? To say this post is a stretch would be an insult to stretches

  13. ItalianArmyGuy says: Sep 24, 2009 3:37 PM

If Roy had been wearing a Giants jersey, he could have caught plenty of balls from Romo. That’s his whole problem – just wearing the wrong jersey color. Romo doesn’t throw to the guys wearing white very often.

3 Cowboys-related stories in a row? watch out Florio

  15. JerryJones4Prez says: Sep 24, 2009 3:43 PM

Alright Florio, now you are getting a bit too touchy. Why is it that when a player says, “I want the ball more,” it is described as them being a diva? I agree with Roy, he needs to be involved more. Just having one good game during a season does not satisfy any player. Why should a good game against the Bucs satisfy Roy for the whole season? All WR’s have one objective: To be involved in the offense, and hopefully, contributing their talents to winning football games.

  16. Shaun Lowrie says: Sep 24, 2009 3:46 PM

Even Andre Johnson? The man with no ego? What about Hines Ward?
Seems to me like it’s exactly these kind of comments that deserve negative attention, because it’s hard to see them as anything other than a point blank criticism of fellow teammates and coaches.
It certainly emphasises the huge gulf in class between the likes of Johnson, Fitzgerald, and Coles, and their ‘me-first’ counterparts, T.O, Williams, and Chad.

  17. Shaun Lowrie says: Sep 24, 2009 3:48 PM

Having said that, I think most of your ‘league sources’ will be able to tell you that there has to be an element of selfishness in any great player’s mindset.

  18. 10mm says: Sep 24, 2009 3:49 PM

Send Roy to buffalo with T.O. They can cry on each other’s shoulders.

  19. Kodiakal Karnage says: Sep 24, 2009 3:58 PM

The sooner Roy just accepts that he’s gonna have to share a lot of catches with the opposing team’s secondary, the better off he’ll be.
Romo likes to spread it around a bit, that’s all.

  20. C-Murder says: Sep 24, 2009 3:58 PM

I am a diehard Cowboy fan but our defense is terrible. Who told Philips he was a good defensive coach. I agree with Roy he needs to get the ball more at least he catches the ball. Once again Tony Romo will be the downfall of the Cowboys this year again. He is just not good under pressure. Should have gone after Vick or Garcia as backup.

  21. Leviathan says: Sep 24, 2009 3:59 PM

Wide Receivers want the ball. News at 11.

  22. sim448 says: Sep 24, 2009 4:12 PM

every wide receiver has an ego, every single one. everyone thought marvin harrison was this quiet, never in trouble guy. ummm, we might be wrong there. Honestly, i can think of one- Troy Brown. BINGO!! Other than him, I just cant think of another good receiver who HASNT run their mouth at least once. Just think, the nba is ALL guys like this. that must be fun coaching in that league….

  23. FumbleNuts says: Sep 24, 2009 4:41 PM

I believe Romo should try and get the ball to Patrick Crayton more often, NOT williams!

  24. VoxVeritas says: Sep 24, 2009 5:25 PM

    yawn.

  25. theTRUTHwillSETuFREE says: Sep 24, 2009 5:40 PM

    @sim448: Tim Brown!!

  26. Ocelot138 says: Sep 24, 2009 5:46 PM

Is that your assessment of the Cowboy’s play thus far this season?
    Yeah, me too. Yaaaaawn.

  27. NoKoolaidCowboy says: Sep 24, 2009 6:13 PM

Nothing wrong with a WR wanting the ball more considering the alternative (a guy that just wants to hang out and collect a paycheck).
Doesn’t sound like a diva so far to me.
Let TO go, he is a Buffalo Bill now.

  28. Peccary says: Sep 24, 2009 6:58 PM

I’m amazed at the criticisms many here have for Florio’s posts. If he is such a hack, why are you here reading them? You people need to get some other interests in life aside from arbitrary internet flames!
Oh no, wait … now I have become like you!
    PS
Roy Williams is a bust, and the Blowboys are going nowhere (again).

  29. m2002m says: Sep 24, 2009 7:26 PM

To the guy who said Coles wasn’t a “me-first” guy is kinda off, dude has always been a bit of a diva, especially towards the end of his skins tenure

  30. Ocelot138 says: Sep 25, 2009 12:00 AM

    Roy who?

  31. bonz21st Century says: Sep 27, 2009 2:26 AM

Stars want to shine…is Williams a star…we will see…is Romo a star or a black hole…he needs to see a hypnotherapist to overcome his fear…he has talent but when the going gets tough he panics…throws too many wounded ducks…he needs to throw it out of bounds or just go to the ground when there are no other choices…those rookie mistakes are no longer acceptable…and give Williams a chance…he will either put up or shut up…
