Stephen Jones lands on Competition Committee

Stephen Jones has been acquiring greater authority within the Dallas Cowboys organization.

He’ll now acquire considerably more juice within league circles.

Jones, the son of owner Jerry Jones and the COO of the Cowboys, has been named to the league’s Competition Committee.

“This is both an honor and a great responsibility,” said Jones. “I look forward to having the opportunity to contribute.”

The chairmen of the Competition Committee, the league’s primary rule-recommending body, are Titans head coach Jeff Fisher and Falcons president Rich McKay. The other members are Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Giants president John Mara, Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome, Colts president Bill Polian, and Texans G.M. Rick Smith.

Jones replaces former Panthers president Mark Richardson, who recently resigned his position with the team.

The practical import of the move is that the video board at Cowboys Stadium, which has been left where it is pending further discussion after the season, will move higher only when a thick sheet of ice coats the lake in which Lucifer fishes for largemouth bass.
