Harvin absent from practice, again

Vikings receiver Percy Harvin, who has scored two touchdowns in his first two NFL games, might not get a chance to score a third time on Sunday when he makes his Metrodome debut.

Harvin, according to Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, is absent from the early portion of Friday’s practice.

Harvin missed Thursday’s practice due to an unspecified illness.

We’ll know more about his status later today, when the Vikings apply a label to his expected availability for Sunday’s home opener against the 49ers.

He has genuinely produced so far on the field. Its the off the field stuff that has me worried.

Here come all the comments regarding dehydration and/or smoking weed. Look, the guy has shown some amazing stuff through 2 weeks so far and I will assume he can get a lot better. Just cut the guy some slack whatever his “illness” or excuse is. Put it to you this way, if Adrian Peterson had a similar recent past like Percy Harvin would anyone be coming down on him?

I think Harvin stubbed his cameltoe.

People don’t miss work from weed, they miss work from booze.

He’s perfect for Favre, the King of the Checkdown. Same style of game … same dedication to practice.

I’m old enough to remember when J.R. Richard, of the Astros, was getting hammered in the newspapers and TV for saying he didn’t feel well, and then one day had a stroke in the bullpen. Hopefully, nothing is serious, maybe allergies, but he seems to get sick fairly often.

He sprouted a little curly tail and started oinking, so Chilly sent him home.

It’s great that the PFT fanbase’s obsession with “turds” leads people to equate being sick with “off the field issues”.

Yeah, he is absolutely amazing! He looks like the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders and Herschel Walker rolled into one….. Given all of the hype you slurpers talked about him in the spring and what he was going to do, he surely can’t be living up to your expectations, can he? All 36yd avg/game against the 2 worst teams in football?

Sorry Tomb. My comment was directed at Contra and his “Amazing stuff” comment. I have a hard time looking at anything he’s done on the field as “Amazing”. The only amazing thing I’ve seen so far is that they’ve actually coerced Brent to be the the 2yd checkdown QB that he is at this point in his career. At this rate, he’ll have to throw about 100 passes a game to even reach his first 300yds.
As for Harvin being absent, we all know that he probably caught wind of the weed police coming to test his urine or he has another bout of “dehydration”. Although this shouldn’t be shocking to anyone. He had more hangnail injuries and ankle sprains in college than any other player during his career.

    whatthehellisinmyass?
Kinda hard to do anything against the Browns when All Day is going 180 yards.
Besides, what Rookie besides Moss and Rice had awesome years when they were a rookie?
He’s doing great, 2 tds, Pretty high Avg. on kick returns. Giving defenses something else to gameplan around.
Face it buttplug, The vertical passing game isn’t there because they haven’t needed it.
If you knew anything about the drug testing, they don’t know when it is coming after the 1st strike, it’s random( yeah I’ll wait for you to look that word up). You knowing this would preclude that you know anything, which we know isn’t true.
Nice of you to FINALLY show up on Friday after a Packer loss. Getting beat by bottom feeders does that to a guy I guess.
Nobody missed your pathetic attempts at posting. maybe the Rams will do us a favor and beat the Pack, don’t laugh, there is a distinct possibility of it happening.
Then maybe we will be w/o your moronic viewpoints for even longer.
Pure jealousy on your part, it shines through with every word you type.

Harvin had migraine headache issues while at Florida. He has a fragile immune system it appears. But he will play Sunday.

  20. Johnny Ryall says: Sep 25, 2009 3:14 PM

Just listened to an interview with Shiancoe this morning. He said that Harvin has been working his butt off in practice since he got here and has been the last guy off the field a lot of days (with Shaincoe).

  21. footballrulz says: Sep 25, 2009 3:19 PM

Well, if he has the flu don’t let him get around the other players. At least not till next week.

  22. Tomb says: Sep 25, 2009 3:21 PM

“He had more hangnail injuries and ankle sprains in college than any other player during his career.”
…and was also an amazing college player. Have you seen him play? He plays with the kind of reckless abandon that is both exciting to watch, but prone to injury.
This off the field stuff is a concern, though. I really hopes it’s not a chronic ailment.

Some of you really need to think before you post. It is obvious that some of you have never had to take a drug test and know absolutely nothing about it.
Harvin is subject to RANDOM tests. Further, not only do they test for drugs, they test for agents that MASK (or cover) the drug in the system (ie the entire Starcaps debacle). This means when he does come back, most likely the first thing that will happen is Harvin will pee in a cup.
Do any of you really think he is still stupid enough to think he can get past all this?

  25. TheBaySay says: Sep 25, 2009 3:28 PM

    tick…tick…tick…

  26. whatthehellisgoingonoutthere says: Sep 25, 2009 4:09 PM

Hello??? It is widely known in the NFL that RANDOM drug tests in the NFL are not always “RANDOM”, even though they are called such a thing and that the teams are tipped off to such a thing through the grapevine before the piss tester shows up at the door. My comment was sarcastic in nature, but how do you think Onterrio Smith knew when to bust out his Whizzinator for his “Random” tests????? If you saw pictures of it from his personal possessions being auctioned off by the storage facility, you certainly could tell (based on the sweat) on the fake jock strap that concealed it that it was definitely well used. I certainly don’t think he could have worn it to practice every day.
