"Jason" mask costs Sheldon Brown $10,000

We’re a little behind on this one.  And if we were inclined to come up with lame excuses for periodically being a little late on a story, we might suggest that, given the precise subject matter of the story, we wanted to hold it for a Friday.

Actually, that sounds pretty good.  So we’ll go with that one.

On Sunday against the Saints, Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown ran out of the tunnel wearing an old-school goalie mask from the Friday The 13th series of slasher flicks.

And it’ll cost him more than he likely will ever spend on tickets for movies over the course of his entire life.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the league has fined Brown $10,000 for the uniform violation.

Though Brown, to date, has not explained the reason for wearing the mask, we’ve got a feeling it has something to do with the time that Brown killed Saints running back Reggie Bush.

He should have kept the mask on…that way he could deny he was even on the field when Brees was hitting all the open receivers.

If I remember correctly, I think Gcobb.com said it was a silent protest of his contract issues. Apparently Brown feels like he’s just another face to Eagles management, or something.

Sheldon Brown explained to Anthony Gargano of 610 WIP the reason for the mask. When the offseason began, Joe Banner went right up to Sheldon and said “We are not going to talk about an extension or a new deal”….no hello, how are you?, nothing. Then at a barbecue, Joe Banner tried to act like nothing had been going on and tried to talk to Sheldon, and Sheldon ignored him. If you notice on the mask, there is no mouth. It is a symbol for him to show he isnt going to talk to anyone.

As I recall last year, New Orleans started out great…oh yeah, then they finished LAST in the division. They look very good now, but let’s see where everyone resides at season’s end!

a Jason David mask really would have scared the Saints

This is ridiculous on the NFL’s part. It isn’t like he wore it on the field. God forbid a player do something to get people into the game before it begins, all the while the NFL has fireworks and all kinds of other crap going off – all the has been rock/rap stars singing season opening tunes in Point Park.
How is this any different than Chad Johnson’s lame sideline HOF coat BS from last year? If I remember correctly, he didn’t get a fine, which was the reason he carried it out on the sideline. So, at best, it’s inconsistent, and it is downright petty at worst. Who did it hurt for Brown to wear that mask out of the tunnel? I love football, just like everyone else who F5′s here all day long. Things like this make me hate the people in charge of my sport.

Well your recollection is wrong. The Saints started 1-2 after three weeks and 2-3 after 5. Not exactly a great start.

When you’re a multimillionaire it’s worth the 10 grand to be able to make a statement. Joe Banner is a tool. He’s half the reason the Eagles haven’t won a championship during the McNabb/Reid era.

    Or maybe you’re misremembering.

Earlier this season, the Cincinnati Bengals’ Johnson drew a $10,000 fine for donning a blazer on the sideline with the words “Future Hall of Fame 20??” on the back.

Maybe that mask blocked Sheldon’s view of Bush sprinting into the endzone for a touchdown during the Saints blowout of the Iggles last weekend.
Sounds kinda petty for a multi-millionaire to make his statement against Eagle management in front of 75,000 average Joe’s who ponied up a week of pay to see the game and drink a beer.

that hit was brutal. i thought Reggie was dead. but if i remember correctly, he took one play off and was back in.
then Reggie made the Eagles D look silly. and the Saints won.
and now this year with the Jason mask. i think Reggie won that battle, too, scoring 6 and taking Asante Samuel out in the process.
a grown man wearing a Jason mask to make a statement. LOL!
and +1 to the guy that said a Jason David mask would have been much scarier!
