Anyone who hopes to draft a high-end quarterback next April but who intends to be picking late in round one probably is feeling pretty good about the ongoing unavailability of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford.
John Taylor of CFT has an update on Bradford, and it’s possibly not encouraging.
So if the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner misses most if not all of the season with a shoulder injury suffered during the first college football game at the North Texas Football Cathedral, he might very well be on the board when the pro team that plays there uses its first-round pick in 2010.
There’s another likely low-drafting team with a quarterback who’ll soon be 40 — and a running back who used to be a Sooner.
With so much money invested in the players taken at the top of the draft, a lost season could make it very difficult for Bradford to stay at the top of the selection process. Though busts are inevitable, the accountability within an organization that picks a guy could be much greater where warning signs were present.
What’s saying that he even comes out?
He’s only a junior so could go back to OU and enter the 2011 draft with no Colt McCoy and having rehabed his shoulder & draft stock.
And with the first pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Texas QB Colt McCoy.
You’ve got to think that Jerry World’s giant video screen contributed to Bradford’s injury. Probably all a scheme by Jones to get Bradford’s stock to fall, so that he can pick him with his 7th pick this next year as a replacement for Jessica Romo.
You’re last paragraph is an insult to anyone with the IQ of a gnat.
Bradford is a junior, and barring a looming-2011-lockout, I don’t think he would enter the 2010 draft if he wasn’t guaranteed to go in the top 10.
Sam Bradford is seeing Dr. Andrews because he wants to get approved to play in the next game. That is all. Nothing more. First pick no question.
Nate Davis has looked promising, but if Bradford is on the board when the Niners are picking with the 2nd of their two 2010 first rounders, I’d love to see another option on the roster at QB.
Wow. I see a post on CFT on the front page has 4 comments.
Careful, you may break the server if you keep promoting that powerhouse here.*
*That was sarcasm. No one gives two pounds of puppy shit about CFT. Accept it.
hes not gonna be any good in the pros anyway
Bradford would be stupid to declare if he didn’t think he would be #1 overall.
He’s clearly the most talented QB in this class. His only real weaknesses are slightly average arm strength and that he hasn’t shown he can throw on the run or make decisions well behind a bad OL.
Texas QB Colt McCoy has zero arm strength, so he would only be suitable for a WCO similar to one run in denver…. hint hint.
Tim Tebow has an ungodly awful throwing mechanic, lacks mid range accuracy, and has abysmal footwork… could be a great fullback or even a respectable backup QB…
Jevan Snead… just watch his games this year… He’s got awful decision making. It’s not even 3rd round good.
Jimmy Clausen (yes, you heard it) is the only QB that has a chance to challenge Bradford for #1. If he doesn’t declare, I would assume Bradford might unless his draft stock has fallen to the bottom of round 1.
Oh, and Baring a Mark Sanchez in 2011, Bradford is the #1 prospect… again.
I would agree with prophecyer; Jimmy Clausen really has upped his game at Notre Dame. He has a good chance of being the #1 overall guy in the spring.
Tune into the UW–Notre Dame matchup. Might be a sneak preview into the next #1 overall pick next season, Jake Locker.
Jessica Romo…that’s hilarious!
“There’s another likely low-drafting team with a quarterback who’ll soon be 40 — and a running back who used to be a Sooner.”
You forgot to mention that they’ll have a new coach, and new coaches tend to draft new quarterbacks.
mustbechris
what is it that makes you think an undefeated coach is going to be fired?
sorry about whatever your team’s record is. I assume it’s the Bears or Packers from your whining, but you could be one of the classic fairweather viking fans (except the weather is looking pretty good now so I doubt it).
Does anybody actually watch these college games or do they just repeat what they heard somebody else say. Colt McCoy would be absolutely horrible in the NFL. No arm strength at all. Terrible accuracy. I’d be surprised if any NFL GM who even breaks down one game film would take him before the third or fourth round.
Yet people keep talking like he is a #1 overall pick because somebody on ESPN says so?
And Bradford was worse than McCoy before Bradford’s shoulder injury…
Fifth round at least for Bradford.
Dude… Bradford has an elite skillset. Accuracy, footwork, size, etc. His skills are similar to Peyton Mannings. Peyton has elite defense reading, so It’s not a give me for Bradford.
Bradfords only real flaws are that he is untested.
If you want to count above average but not elite arm strength as a negative, you can.
He’s clearly the best pro prospect in the country, maybe Jimmy Clausen. I’ve seen one other guy who I thought was good, but I haven’t had time to watch him enough.
Who cares about next years draft?
The real one is 2011 where we will see the Patriots try and draft Brady’s heir apparent with their very probable, high draft pick from the Raiders.
Brady will be 33 by the 2011 Draft, they can draft the QB of the future, sit him for the 2011 season and go into the 2012 season with a 34 (going on 35) year old QB with a bum knee and a probable top 5 pick QB waiting in the wings.
Not a bad place to be, really.
