Light and Nicholas connected by struggle

There are a lot of stories written about off-field struggles, and they usually don’t have a happy ending.

This one does.

Falcons linebacker Stephen Nicholas and Patriots left tackle Matt Light don’t know each other, but ESPNBoston’s Mike Reiss details their shared histories of young children with major heart surgery.

Reiss does a better job telling the story than we could, so we’ll let him.   But it’s a good reminder, as Reiss writes, that “a missed block or tackle is not the end of the world.”

And we’ll get right back to the injury update posts in about 30 minutes.

More meaningful posts like this to fill the post count please.
Not hard to find good things players do off the field.
    Well, most players anyways.
Each player will pledge $1,000 per sack or $100 per tackle, while national and local sponsors will match the athletes’ donations.

My heart and prayers go out to them and their children.
I know what they are going through. My daughter was born with transposition also, but back before they had this newer procedure. She is lucky to be alive and is one of the oldest survivors of this defect. She has had several surgeries, has a pacemaker, and would’ve needed valve surgery, but now that’s not possible so will be needing a transplant sometime in the future.
God bless them. Thanks for sharing this story.

    um

not to get political but without inovation in the private sector medically, these stories never happen.

Yes, please don’t get political, especially when you have no idea what you are talking about. You think all innovation comes in the private sector? You are dead wrong. Know where most of the innovative drugs come from? Real innovations I mean, not erectile enhancement pills. That is right, the U.S. government. They develop the drugs because the private sector won’t, especially vaccines and long term meds. The drug companies are not interested in cures and vaccines, as they would rather you take a pill a day. Fully three quarters of new medicines come from the U.S. government. Then they are forced to hand them over to the private sector for absolutely no charge, and then they make huge profits without ever investing a cent.
Know where most of your trauma medicine and surgeries come from? Yep, the U.S. government. So please don’t speak unless you know what you are talking about.

What about all the innovative medicine that comes from outside the U.S.? Doh! HaHa. Universities. They do a lot of research. Research Grants. Pharmaceutical firms do R&D to make small changes to existing drugs.
