Eagles to have three active quarterbacks

Andy Reid is looking for flexibility on Sunday afternoon against the Chiefs, which means that he won’t avail himself of the emergency quarterback option.

Jason LaCanfora of NFL.com reports that the Eagles will have Kevin Kolb, Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick on their active roster. That means they could play any (or all) of them at any point in the game without losing the right to use the other two players.

Given Vick’s rustiness and perceived inability to handle being the regular, every-down quarterback that isn’t particularly surprising. The decision does lend itself to thoughts that Reid and the Eagles have some doubts about Kolb’s ability as a starter. If Garcia was the emergency quarterback, they’d lose the chance to use Vick, but now they can opt for Garcia and keep all their Wildcat packages intact.

Doesn’t this move leave doubts as to Vick’s ability to handle the offense in case Kolb gets hurt? That is my read on this. Anyone disagree?

I’ll bet Jon Gruden strokes himself everytime he looks at all those QB’s on the same roster.

I dont think the fact that the Eagles have 3 active qbs has anything to do with Reid doubting Kolb’s abilities. I think its more of a precatution against injury. B/c if Kolb gets injured and Garcia has to come in that Means Vick is done for the day. Andy wants to keep all his options open with Vick so hes not going to risk having to sit him especially b/c of the horrible condition of lincoln fanicial field ( It rained last night in philly and also temple ripped up the field yesterday during there game). If read is worried about anyone’s skills its Vicks other wise he would be the second string qb and Garcia would be the emergency guy.

Sorry, but the conclusion is not that they don’t trust Kolb.
The conclusion is that if Kolb went down, they did not trust Vick enough as a QB to take Kolb’s role, so they had to lift Garcia (who has even less work in the Eagles Offense than Vick) on the active squad in order to replace Kolb with Garcia … and not Vick.
I think that pretty much sums up the “Mike Vick starting QB in this league” thing.

Reid has absolutely no doubt in Kolb at all. That has nothing to do with it.

Man, did you dig into the darker recesses of your anatomy for this one! Guess your “thoughts” are a demonstration of the difference between a blogger and a real journalist. Why spend the time to actually report fact if you can make up a wild-aXX guess? If they have the “doubts” you suggest, and if they in turn use Kolb as the starter, doesn’t that also lend itself to thoughts that Reid and the Eagles should be doubted concerning their ability to make rational decisions about the team?
Geez, Florio, we could get a real conspiracy of thoughts going here!!!
