There’s speculation in some circles that the injury that kept Browns kicker Phil Dawson from suiting up on Sunday against the Ravens is actually an aggravation of his desire for a new contract.
Dawson’s discontent first surfaced last September, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned during his man-without-a-country phase that Dawson be a training-camp no-show.
To date, Dawson hasn’t taken any specific action to protest his lack of a new deal. But some are wondering whether he’s actually got a case of the blue flu.
Dawson has been with the Browns since the franchise returned to the league in 1999.

What the hell does it matter? They can’t get down the field to go for a field goal!
lets be fair. dawson is probably the best QB on their roster as well
ManGenius at work. He knows the best way to NFL success is to get fired by the Browns.
He’s doing a great job towards that goal – and is way ahead of Belichick’s pace.
is it time for the draft yet?
when the hell are we gonna cut mangini??!!
Dawson’s accuracy really dipped at the end last year. Kickers are a dime a dozen.
“He’s doing a great job towards that goal – and is way ahead of Belichick’s pace.”
Revisionist history.
Belichick was never fired by the Browns–Modell took him to BAL and left him hanging until he secured Marchibroda as coach to appeal to Baltimore fans.
The Cleveland Browns are now on the clock.
