Texans-Jaguars one-liners

Long-time Houston football scribe John McClain on the Texans’ effort in their 31-24 loss to the Jaguars: “The Texans are an abomination, an embarrassment to the city, the county and to themselves.”

After a shaky offensive pass interference call against wide receiver Kevin Walter overturned a potential game-tying touchdown by Houston, Chris Brown fumbled on the goal line.

“When you let down all your teammates, you can’t put it into words,” Brown said after the game.

Walter made a big impact in his return to the Houston lineup.

Matt Schaub put up a highlight-reel worthy first half and finished with 300 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, but Houston’s offense scored only three points in the second half.

The same ol’ Texans?  The franchise has a new spin on their inconsistency, though, losing  both games at Reliant Stadium when they are traditionally good at home.

The Houston defense continues to give up long runs, this time allowing a 61-yarder to Maurice Jones-Drew.

Mo Jo racked had his first 100-yard game of the season, and scored three times.

Mike Sims-Walker led the Jaguars with six catches for 81 yards, but lost a fumble with under five minutes to go that gave Houston a chance to win.

Jack Del Rio brought more defense pressure Sunday, and the Jaguars defense responded with two sacks and some key hurries in the second half.

Safety Sean Considine left the game with a groin injury and was replaced by Gerald Alexander.

Quarterback David Garrard’s feet were integral in earning the first win for a pro football team from Florida this season.

The Jags’ defense gave up too many big plays again but they did play more aggresively when it came to putting pressure on the QB. Derrick Harvey is an absolute disaster out there. Even worse than Reggie Nelson. Gerald Alexander played physical at safety and I would like to see him at SS and Considine at FS. I think Considine pulled his groin today though. Eben Britton was also hurt early and did not come back. The Texans have poor safety play. 34 did not even locate Jones-Drew as he ran through the hole on the final TD. And 40 was pitiful on the 61-yard TD. I liked the way Koetter utilized Garrard’s athleticism on the QB keeper for 20 or so yards and the bootleg on the goal line Garrard ran in for a TD. PLEASE USE BOOT ACTION INSIDE THE 10 YARD LINE. Mike Thomas made some nice plays. Mike Sims-Walker has to hold onto the ball but he could have a solid year if he can stay on the field. MJD was typical MJD. They really miss Fred Taylor as a change up though. They cut the wrong punter. Paging Mr Weatherford. Justin Durant is probably the best player on the team. He should be a Pro-bowler. Rashean Mathis has played physical this year and seems to have a sense of urgency about him that was lacking the past two years. The only team in FL with a win and if the Colts lose tonight they are only one game back in the AFC South. At least for a week! Go Cardinals.
