Broncos-Raiders one liners

All is well in Denver after their 23-3 throttling of the Raiders. "The biggest thing our coach had was the whole team behind him. No one drifted or steered away from him," said Broncos safety Renaldo Hill.

Mike Shanahan is gone, but Denver's powerful running game remains. Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno combined for 198 rushing yards against Oakland's supposedly impressive front line.

Defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday on the league's biggest surprise:
"We're the shocker team. You hear it every time you turn on the TV and somebody's talking about Josh McDaniels and the Denver Broncos. They want to know, 'What's going on out there?' "

Brandon Marshall appears "back" after leading the Broncos with five catches, 67 yards, and a touchdown. "
I don't know where I ever went," Marshall said.

Denver's no name defense has given up 16 points in three weeks.

Oakland's last three top draft picks aren't giving much return on Al Davis' $79 million investment.

Darren McFadden reminded folks of his college days with three fumbles.

Javon Walker is trying to earn his money by pretending to be other wide receivers.

Tom Cable bemoaned the lack of a pass rush against Kyle Orton.

JaMarcus Russell was calm, confident, and hopeful after the game despite his performance. Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune: "You wonder if Russell knows something you don't know or simply has no grip on reality."

Where are all those Denver fans that wanted Josh hung before the season ever started?

  2. lolcopter says: September 28, 2009 1:54 PM

Bobby Turner and Rick Dennison are the "masterminds" behind Shanahan's running game (running backs coach and o-line coach, respectively). Thankfully McDaniels retained these guys upon being hired.

    GO BRONCOS!

Raider Games are no longer fun.

Raider games used to be competitive, but they killed the competitiveness with a dysfunctional front office. The AL DAVIS way of running a team is no longer advantageous. Al used to get a competitive advantage by hiring black players & coaches before it became the common and he did many good things, but 7 years of losing all point back to you!!

Raider Games used to have the best tailgates with DJs blasting music and people dancing BUT the Raiders killed the tailgate with too many rules and limiting and dictating the size of the tailgates. They claim is an NFL rule not a Raider rule but Miami still allows music and dancing. Seriously why destroy the only part of a Raider Game that is still FUN the Tailgate?

Why should i go to a Raider game?

Somebody please give me Amy Trask and AL DAvis information so i can remind them weekly why the fans are no longer showing up?

Uhm, it would probably take more than just those 2 teams to field a team with a chance at going places.

  7. JeterLeto says: September 28, 2009 2:18 PM

Raiders have all the potential there but i think Russell may be a bust. Its still early to tell but i would of started Garcia this year to try and make a playoff run.

  8. Sow Crates says: September 28, 2009 2:20 PM

As a Bears fan, I commend the Broncos on their 3 wins...

    ...HOWEVER...

Lets not forget that their wins came against the incompetent Raiders, horrible Browns, and last but not least a fluke win vs the Bengals.

These 3 teams combined for 13 wins last year and just 2 winning seasons in the past 5 years.

They get Dallas, New England, San Diego, (bye), Baltimore, and Pittsburgh in their next 5 games, I think they'd be lucky to win 2 of those games.

  9. meatbat says: September 28, 2009 2:29 PM

ditto to Sow Crates...denver will still end up under .500. San Diego is going to win that division again with either 9 or 10 wins...pathetic. As for Jamarcus Russell, has anyone suggested to al davis that he perhaps take a page out of the fantastic move "the replacement" and try to sign shane falco.

  10. CdnMike says: September 28, 2009 2:35 PM

I am by NO means a Raiders fan and even I am getting pissed off by their play. What do the Raiders' fans feel like is what I want to know.

This franchise is unbelievable. I mean, the Bey pick was stupid, everyone knew that. They need so many other things but a wide receiver. However, no players can come in to fix this. The coaching stinks and the reason the coaching stinks is because no respected coach is going to go to a team controlled by the crypt keeper.

So the Raiders get stuck with a fat slob like Cable guy to guide the swiss cheese ship.

I honestly feel bad for Raiders fans. But hang in there black and silver, seriously how much longer can Al Davis live?

  11. steeler-hater says: September 28, 2009 2:39 PM

Sounds like Russell needs a change of scenery.

Trade him to Tennessee for Vince Young. Both guys need a fresh start someplace else...

  12. JSpicoli says: September 28, 2009 2:43 PM

You guys are blowing this thing way out of proportion.

DHB looks like a skittish horse out there, and Murphy is not that much better. Russell is not playing well, but he needs something to work with at WR.

Then, when we do get a mild drive going, McFadden coughs the ball up.

Russell needs WR's Schilens and his buddy Higgins. They both had a good thing going the last few games of last year.

  13. JustDieBaby says: September 28, 2009 2:46 PM

"I honestly feel bad for Raiders fans. But hang in there black and silver, seriously how much longer can Al Davis live?"

Well his Mom lived to be 103.

Its no longer Silver & Black. Its Silver & Bleak.

Yes our team is like swiss cheese. Full of holes & stinks.

When you draft a player based on his 40 time dhBUST and a JaLardLazyAss because he has a strong arm. This is what you get. A record 7th straight season with at least 11 L's.

  14. eeerockski says: September 28, 2009 2:55 PM

Denver is what it is... 3-0. You guys can try and bash us all you want. We'll see how we fare when the season is over, but so far we're 3-0. #1 defense so far! This team is totally upgraded from last years team, cutler or not. I was cautiously optimistic in the offseason, but it seems Josh McDaniels actually knew what he was doing. Holy crap, did I just say that?

  15. R8R_BOB says: September 28, 2009 3:00 PM

    Los Angeles,
    ya' still want the RAIDERS?

    ------------------------------------------

Lets not forget that the Bengals have lit up their other opponents, but not the Broncos, despite the fluke, which is what makes football great, Kinna like Reed missing easy field goals to beat the Bears. One of these teams killed Green bay, who beat the Bears.

Lets not forget the Raiders dominating the run game against the Chargers 77 yards total(who are everyones favorite in the AFC west), but the Broncos had 198 yards rushing between Moreno and Buckhalter. San Diego (Total:317) Denver (347)... So I guess the Chargers had an easy schedule too, but they didn't perform as well.

Lets not forget also, that the Broncos crushed those pathetic (so called teams), they just didn't sqeak by.

I think the Broncos are going to beat Dallas and NE at home, but we will still have people saying its a fluke because they read to much crap about what other people think.

    On a side note:

    Total Defense:
    Denver Broncos
    #1
    Chicago Bears:
    #9

    Passing Dfense:
    Denver:
    #2
    Chicago
    #12

    Rushing Dfense:

    Denver:
    #7
    Chicago:
    #13

    Total Offense:
    Denver Broncos:
    #9
    Chicago Bears:
    #20

    Interceptions:
    Orton: 0
    Cutler: 5

    Total Rushing:
    Denver:
    #4
    Chicago:
    #28

And the only category Chicago is winning is passing:
    #13 to #15

    Chicago
    Opponents:
    Pittsburgh Steelers 1 2 0 (3rd)Beat by Cincy
    Seattle Seahawks 1 2 0 (3rd)
Green Bay Packers 2 1 (2nd) Beat by Cincy

    Denver Opponents
    Cincinnati Bengals 2 1 0 (2nd)
    Cleveland Browns 0 3 0 (4th)
    Oakland Raiders 1 2 0 (3rd)

So in my opinion, the Bears haven't played much better thus far, and the fact they have a winning record is amazing.

  17. lolcopter says: September 28, 2009 3:03 PM

    @Sow Crates

as opposed to the Bears winning their last two games due to missed field goals by the opposing team

yeah, your team is really dominating.

  18. Philtration says: September 28, 2009 3:45 PM

And Cutler is on pace to pass for 4,053 yards and 32 TDs.
Orton is on pace to throw for 3,536 yards and 16 TDs.

Please continue to enjoy your very average QB in Denver.

No one here in Chicago gives a shit about what Kyle Orton is doing or not doing.
Why do Bronco fans continue to hyperventilate over Jay Cutler?
If you are really so happy that he is gone and Orton is in town then you would shut the hell up about it already.
Stop acting like someone sprinkled sand in your Vaseline all the time.

  20. lolcopter says: September 28, 2009 4:03 PM

    LOL @ "on pace" stats

Cutler is also "on pace" to throw 26-27 interceptions. why'd you leave that stat out??

  22. Bronco1 says: September 28, 2009 4:37 PM

    Philtration-

Who cares what QB is on pace to throw for more yards and touchdowns? Last I checked Cutler and Orton weren't traded in fantasy football. Here's the only stat that matters:

Jay Cutler record as a starter: 19-21
Kyle Orton record as a starter: 24-12

My worry is that Denver has had a recent history of starting strong but fading down the stretch (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008). We'll see what happens now because as has been well documented the schedule is a "slight" bit tougher.

Kyle Orton record as a starter: 24-12
    ----------------------------------------------------

And Cutler played for a crappy Broncos team while Orton played for a much better Bears team.

If Rex Grossman had played even a hair better or had not been hurt in Chicago then Kyle Orton never sees a single start.
He could not beat out Grossman and Brian Griese.

  27. lolcopter says: September 30, 2009 4:32 PM

Funny how Jay Cutler makes receivers look better, while making the running game and defense look worse.
