Bulger has rotator cuff injury

If there was a quarterback debate in St. Louis between Marc Bulger and Kyle Boller, would anyone care enough to make it?

Well, yes.  Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch makes the case for Boller in the short term, although he admits that the Rams’ quarterback of the future is playing on Saturdays this Fall.

But it’s sounding like there won’t be a decision to make at all because of Marc Bulger’s reported rotator cuff injury.

When speaking about Bulger’s injury and safety James Butler’s knee injury, coach Steve Spagnuolo said, “There’s some significance to those injuries.”

The Post-Dispatch writes that Bulger will miss the season if tests on Monday reveal a torn rotator cuff.  And it doesn’t take an expert to know that the paper wouldn’t have mentioned the possibility unless there was a real chance that Bulger is done for the season.

We should find out more today from the Rams, but it sounds like Boller will get the starting job by default, at least in the short term.

Whoever is the starting quarterback has a tough assignment, especially because wide receiver Laurent Robinson was also hurt in Sunday’s game with a potentially ankle knee injury.

This was Bulger’s last year as Rams QB. (And I don’t mean contract-wise.) Decent QB, but way over-rated, even when he still had receivers.
Time f0r the Rams to go in a new direction.

Funny – Brett Favre is vilified for his rotator cuff injury – even though he remains productive having it. Bulger, the walking MASH unit, probably misses time, buy nary a negative word.
    Strange world.

“although he admits that the Rams’ quarterback of the future is playing on Saturdays this Fall.”
Or on the Philadelphia Eagles. Offensive Coordinator Pat Shumur was QB coach in Philly and Spagnuolo was on the staff, as well.

Mike Vick to the Rams for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

The Rams have passed on Jay Cutler, Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez. Maybe they aren’t smart enough to take a QB in the draft next year.

Bulger hasn’t had a line in many years. He doesnt look that bad he just doesnt have much of a chance to do anything. Not much a QB can do with no OL AND no Wrs.

I’m not a Rams fan, but I watched their game yesterday. Boller looked pretty good, actually.

How come I’m thinking that the Rams will be choosing the next “Alex Smith” with the first/second/third pick in the next draft?
(Alex Smith meaning QB destined to be a very rich journeyman/career backup/future QB for the Redskins in 15 years)

As a Rams fan, I can admit I probably would’ve passed on Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez myself. With the money paid to Marc Bulger only what, 3 seasons ago (the off-season before he started being on his back for about 75% of the offensive plays), there was no way to take a QB. O-Line always remained a concern, and that concern was supposed to be shored up with Smith. D-Line was always a concern, and we’ve drafted Long and Carriker, and Carriker had a solid rookie season and apparently that will be the only season he’ll actually be on the field as a Ram.
