Freeney heard “something pop”

The complete team effort by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night in their 31-10 win over the Cardinals was perhaps the most impressive performance of the day.

But the win could come with a gigantic asterisk if defensive end Dwight Freeney is seriously injured.

Freeney reportedly “heard something pop” in his quadriceps during a play in the third quarter against Arizona, according to the Associated Press. It was one of the few plays all night Freeney wasn’t making Kurt Warner run for his life; Freeney was a blocker when he got hurt.

Before the injury, Freeney hit Warner four times, including two sacks and a forced fumble.

“They were trying to single block him,” said defensive end Robert Mathis.

The performance was a reminder that Freeney is almost as important to the Colts defense as Peyton Manning is to their offense. Freeney will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
