Marcus Fitzgerald gets more attention than he ever wanted

Though destined not to have the same kind of football career as his big brother, California Redwoods (of the UFL) receiver Marcus Fitzgerald has gotten plenty of attention this week, thanks to a series of inflammatory tweets he posted on September 20, during and after the Cardinals’ 31-17 win over the Jaguars.

His misadventures with the popular Twitter service were discussed by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen during Sunday NFL Countdown, and they were mentioned on multiple occasions during the NBC Sunday night coverage.

But while everyone seems to accept the fact that the comments from Marcus do not hint at a problem between Larry and Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, a couple of unanswered questions remain.

Did Larry send Marcus a text during halftime of the game indicating that Larry was frustrated?

Did Larry call Marcus after the game and indicate that the Arizona wideout was “pissed” about the lack of balls thrown his way, notwithstanding the 14-point win?

It’s one thing for Marcus to have been joking (and, if he was, we’re still trying to find the punch line). It’s another thing for Marcus to flat-out lie about communications with his brother that didn’t occur.

To date, there’s been no indication that it was a lie. And so there’s no reason to think that Fitzgerald wasn’t frustrated.

And, based on Sunday night’s ugly home loss to the Colts, there’s no reason to think Fitzgerald isn’t frustrated now.

For the season, Fitzgerald has 17 catches for 181 yards and two scores. That projects to 90 receptions for 965 yards and 11 touchdowns.

For an ordinary receiver, those numbers are great. For a great receiver, those numbers are ordinary.

So, regardless of whether he said so last week, how can Fitzgerald not be frustrated?
