Report: Pennington out for the year

Uh-oh.

A bad start to the season in South Florida has just gotten a lot worse.

Quarterback Chad Pennington is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.

Per Mortensen, Pennington will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

In Pennington’s absence, the job will fall to Chad Henne, one of the many second-round picks that the Dolphins have devoted to the position since the retirement of Dan Marino.

It also raises the question of whether the Dolphins will pursue a veteran to back up Henne, since the only other quarterback on the roster is rookie Pat White, the product of yet another of the team’s post-Marino second-round picks.

Maybe Bill Parcells can lure Drew Bledsoe out of retirement. Or Vinny Testaverde. Or Phil Simms.
