It’s not a huge surprise that Cincinnati’s top draft pick, tackle Andre Smith, is recovering slowly from a broken bone in his foot.
It is surprising that the Bengals offense hasn’t missed him, especially in the running game.
Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy wrote Wednesday that Smith remains in a walking boot, and likely won’t help the team until after the team’s Week Eight bye. Originally, there were reports indicating Smith could be back in action within two weeks of his injury, suffered at the end of August.
The Bengals face the Ravens and Steelers in back-to-back games after the bye, so getting Smith in the lineup by then could give the team’s offense a shot in the arm, if Smith lives up to his draft billing. (And if he can make it a few days of practice without getting hurt again.)
This week, the Bengals face a hurdle in Cleveland unfamiliar to the team the last few years: a road game they are supposed to win.
There will be no replays of the 51-45 loss to DA back in 2007…All those that are expecting that need to pass that good mowywowy you are smokin…..LOL
Cincy doesnt win 34-3 like bmore but I would say 31 – 10 Cincy
Smith may have great potential, but he won’t be close to meeting it for awhile. If the Bengals continue to have the success they’ve been having, I think they should wait to bring him in. Based on his history to date, I don’t think he’ll be 100% healthy/fit or 100% prepared/integrated, even by Week 9.
As nice as it would be to have their 2009 first round pick on the field and contributing, they kind of have a good thing going right now. Cedric Benson is the third leading rusher so far, in terms of yardage, so why make a change? Anthony Collins, the Right Tackle, is up and down right now, but who’s to say that Andre will be better immediately? I do agree that Collins should be the Left Tackle, Andrew Whitworth should be moved to Left Guard and Smith should be the Right Tackle in the future, but as I said, if they’re playing well enough to win, why make the change and break the continuity?
That’ll do pig, that’ll do.
I tried to tell everyone that HippopataSmith wouldn’t be available as fast as they were saying initially. You can’t expect a foot on that enormous body to heel that quick. What a waste. Although I hate Mike Brown with a passion, I loved seeing him blast Smith to his face in his office saying how out of shape he is. He was a waste of a draft pick and a waste of talent.
Having a broken foot/bone will likely cause him to drop 30 pounds, not being able to run to the fridge every 30 minutes to feed.
For now, thank God he is unable to re-enact his combine shirtless 40 yard sprint routine. Kevin Smith wants to hire him as the spokesman for Mooby’s fast food joint. Yes, I know you’ve seen this before, just try to get the image out of your head the rest of the day

A fractured foot on a 350+ lbs. man will take longer to heel.
Just a guess.
I can’t say I’ve ever heard of an offense getting a ‘shot in the arm’ by the insertion of an out of shape rookie lineman against the Ravens and Steelers. Ease up on the hyperbole dawg.
He came to camp late and fat. With a broken foot, not much PT to take that fat off. I bet he weighs more than his first day of camp. I’ll be surprised if he is in game shape by December 1.
yeah and he has giant man boobs
Has there ever been a guy on the DL for being too fat?
Is this the next Damien Woody?
Andre, Andre, 2 X 4.
Can’t get through the kitchen door.
Well, we can joke, and that’s OK, but obesity really is a serious health issue.
If I were the Bengals GM, once his foot heals, I’d ship Andre Smith off to a fat camp. He’s got to learn to eat better and take care of himself. If he misses some football, fine.
A lot of times weight problems start with self-esteem issues. I hope Andre Smith can get himself back to health and into good shape. He deserves to know the truth: that he is worth taking care of. Other guys need to learn that truth, too.
He could be a force on an emerging Bengals team.
his being made fun of on hard knocks was the funniest thing i have ever seen!~
@ Thebengal13 “I do agree that Collins should be the Left Tackle, Andrew Whitworth should be moved to Left Guard and Smith should be the Right Tackle”
Not when Nate Livings has been their best lineman so far. He is the only one without a penalty and hasn’t alowed a sack. Also with Whitworth holding up against some great pass rushers, why move him?
He was out of shape when he showed up at training camp and way over weight. Now after sitting out with a broken foot should we expect he’s going to be in any better shape???
Add to that he’s a rookie and it’s clear he’ll be of no use this entire season. The Bengals really know how to pick’em.
So what is he now, 500 lbs or so?
When he comes back someone ought to urge him to never again take his clothes off – even in the shower.
I’m not sure why Mike Brown likes to keep the fatties who don’t want to stay in shape and take care of themselves. Jeremy Johnson comes to camp every year way over weight. If you watched Hard Knocks, he was the first one buckling over gasping for air every day. He’s terrible. Yet he puts that rookie fullback on the practice squad when he was clearly in much better shape and learning the offense quickly. I just don’t know what Mike Brown’s deal is with out of shape players and allowing them to get away with it.
